5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Vehicles I’d Love to Travel In

5fandomfriday-1 copy

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another installment of 5 Fandom Friday! Today I’m going to be sharing what 5 fictional vehicles I’d love to travel in, so let’s get started!

✿ The TARDIS

DUH! This has got to be on everyone’s list, right?! I want to travel in the TARDIS because it can go anywhere in space and time! I’d ask the Doctor to take me back in time to see Queen and The Police in concert because how cool would it be to see Freddie Mercury, the greatest vocalist of all time, perform live?!

✿ The Batmobile

I feel like I need to be specific with what model of the Batmobile I’d prefer to travel in, because the one from the Christopher Nolan movies is just… a baby tank. I’m gonna go with the 1960s a la Adam West because it’s the first form of the Batmobile I was ever introduced to. Plus I like the bubbly windshield. 🙂

✿ The Bus (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

When it’s not under attack, the Bus looks like a fun place to be. And Agent May could just put it on auto-pilot and teach me how to kick ass in the Bus’ gym. I wanna be Agent May when I grow up! Is it too late for that?

✿ The Millennium Falcon

Because it’s the mother effin’ Millennium Falcon, that’s why!

✿ The back of Steve Rogers’ motorcycle

To be specific, I would like to ride on the back of Steve Roger’s motorcycle while Steve Rogers himself (Chris Evans version) is in control of the vehicle. Hehehehehe – insert heart eye emojis –

cheers

outfit details – dress & headband: Her Universe // boots: Madden Girl // top: Heart & Soul // bow clip: Forever 21 // earrings: made by me // 11th Doctor plush: Underground Toys

I was the TARDIS from Doctor Who for Halloween! Just in case you’re not familiar with Doctor Who, the TARDIS is a space vessel that is shaped like a police call box that travels throughout space and time. It’s also bigger on the inside [insert inappropriate joke here]!

Finding other Whovians or people who at least know what Doctor Who is used to be like finding unicorns: impossibly rare. I was pleasantly surprised that a few students knew, or at least recognized, that my costume was Who related! I got tons of compliments on it from random people too! Later on when I went to Target, some dude asked me if he could take a picture of my costume. And at my other job a dude in a Guy Fawkes mask enthusiastically told me that my costume was “so awesome!” A lot of people tended to just say, “Doctor Who!” whenever they recognized my costume. Normally the hipster nerd in me would be like, “I’m not Doctor Who, I’m the TARDIS!” and go off on a tangent about how the show is called Doctor Who and the Doctor is just the Doctor, but I didn’t even care. I was just happy I didn’t have to explain what I was dressed as too often. 🙂

When I saw that Her Universe was coming out with an a-line TARDIS dress I flipped out. I didn’t initially think “Halloween costume” because I would wear this dress any other day 🙂 But finding it was such a pain! I finally found one last week at Hot Topic and got the last one in my size along with the TARDIS headband. And they had a BOGO sale going on! SCORE!

I started to have doubts about dressing up as the TARDIS though since I wasn’t sure about what else I could add to it. I envisioned wearing a white frilly top underneath with a bow tie and a petticoat to add extra fluff to the skirt. Can you believe I managed to find this ruffly blouse at the last minute (as in, the night before Halloween)? It also has a bit of a Mary Poppins vibe to it so I can definitely use it for a Mary Disneybound too.

All in all, I’m really quite pleased with my TARDIS costume! Did any of you dress up too?

Cheers,
Nina

These Are the Droids You Are Looking For

While Tim and I were at Disneyland we built our own droids at the Droid Factory which made its debut at the Star Trader store in Tomorrowland back in April!

The Droid Factory first came about at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida last year, which makes no sense to me because Star Wars creator George Lucas is from California and Disneyland, the O.G. Disney theme park, is in California, therefore we (I’m a Californian, so yes, I say “we”) should’ve gotten dibs first. Am I right? Stop taking all the cool stuff first, Disney World! It’s not fair!

Okay, I’ll stop sounding so whiny now. But I digress…

Photo courtesy of Disney Parks Blog

Let’s get onto the fun stuff!

You can pick whether you want to build a single droid or a set of two to put in your own action figure box — Tim and I opted for the set of two.

Tim and I had ridiculous amounts of fun skimming through all the different colored bodies and limbs. And the accessories! You can top your droid off with all kinds of silly headgear like mouse ears in blue, green, red, and the traditional black, a Goofy hat, cowboy/detective looking hat, a pirate hat, and a baseball cap with Yoda ears!

I was dead set on making a purple droid, but I was never satisfied with the results I kept coming up with. Tim immediately spotted a TARDIS blue body and made a TARDISy looking droid and I was so jealous! I came up with the name TR-DS at first, but then suggested TR-D5 to make it sound more droidish.I started building a TARDIS droid too, but I didn’t really want to copy Tim. And I didn’t want our double droid box set to look  monotone. Snooze. I gave up on purple and started playing with other color combinations —  I tried making a Boba Fett droid (green/red combo), but it looked too Christmas-like. I finally got around to making my Yoda droid, 40-D8. At first I was going to name him YO-D8, but decided 4O-D8 sounded more droidy, and still spells out Yoda in pager code. I’m really dating myself with that “pager code” thing. Oi.

I think building my own droid was way more fun than building my own light saber (we did that last year for our anniversary)! I’d definitely love to make another one — maybe the next time around I’ll finally figure out a way to make a purple droid I’m satisfied with. Or maybe they’ll even have more colors to choose from by then (pink! pink! *hint*hint*). 😉

What colors would you use to make your droid and what would you name it?

Nina

Curator’s Corner #3: Freddy Scribbles

I stumbled upon the art of Autumm Fredrickson, who goes by the moniker Freddy Scribbles, at Stockton Con last December. I was on the upper level looking below and saw someone flipping though her portfolio and was immediately drawn to the most adorable little print of Loki and I had to have it! It’s currently hanging above my bed 🙂 Freddy Scribbles art consists of many beloved characters from nerd culture — not only does she have the cutest Loki print, but she has all of the Avengers (even Nick Fury and Phil Coulson)! She also makes plushies called Cubies (kyoo-bees) and currently has The Hulk, Thor, Harley Quinn, and some Avengers keychains available in her store (pictured below).

I hope you all enjoy the art of Freddy Scribbles! Be prepared to say “awww!” 😀

Iron Man
Hawkeye and Black Widow
Captain America
Thor and Loki

Curator’s Corner #2: Nan Lawson

I don’t quite remember how I came across the art of Nan Lawson (I think it might’ve been a random Etsy find), but I just remember immediately falling in love with it! She’s very well known for her super quirky/nerdy art style and pop culture pieces from the likes of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Downton Abbey (I used her Lady Mary shirt in my Thoroughly Modern Mary post awhile ago), The Avengers, Doctor Who, Wes Anderson, etc. The Academy Awards also commissioned her earlier this year to create some pieces for their website of iconic cinematic couples for Valentine’s Day that people could send as virtual greetings (The Sound of Music and Gone With the Wind are pictured below). Nan’s work has also appeared in Timeout New York, Zooey Magazine, GadChick, and art galleries such as Gallery 1988.

I hope you all enjoy her work just as much as I do! Be sure to check out where to follow her on the interwebs and buy her prints, t-shirts, and other thing-a-ma-bobs at the end of the post. 🙂

GERONIMO!

outfit details – tweed blazer + rings: thrifted // pussy bow blouse: Allen B. by Allen Schwartz // skirt: Xhileration (buy here)  // boots: Dirty Laundry // glasses: Derek Cardigan (buy here) // TARDIS cookie jar: (buy here)// sonic screwdriver: (buy here)

Happy Who Day to my fellow Whovians!!!

Not only does the second half of the 7th season premiere tonight, but it was announced earlier this morning that David Tennant (10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose) will be returning for the 50th Anniversary episode! OMG, my fangirl heart doesn’t know how to take all the excitement!!! Tonight Tim and I will be making fish fingers and custard to celebrate 🙂

And since today is Who Day it’s only appropriate to have an outfit post inspired by the 11th Doctor (who happens to be my favorite)! I actually wore this on my first official day at my new job (secret cosplay at work FTW). That was a couple weeks ago, but I didn’t have time to snap any selfies so I had to wait for my photographer (a.k.a. my boyfriend a.k.a. Tim <– in case you’re new to Le Fancy Geek) to get back into town and do a proper shoot.

My outfit inspiration!

Ever since Matt Smith made his debut on the show I’d been thinking of ways to interpret his 11th Doctor’s outfit into an outfit I can wear out and about. The black Dirty Laundry boots were purchased at Ross a couple years ago specifically because they kind of reminded me of the 11th Doctor, and I also thought they would go with my Hogwarts school girl outfit (worn here). Rather than wearing a collared shirt and bow tie, I opted for a pussy bow blouse in the same hue as the burgundy bow tie the 11th Doctor wore for most of his debut season (or series, as the Europeans say). I had been looking for one for awhile and found this one by Allen B. at JCPenney last year. I even did a little happy dance when I stumbled upon it! My tweed blazer was a thrift store find from a couple years ago and, of course, I got it because it reminded me of the Doctor! Why else would I get it, really? And you can’t really tell, but the blazer actually has some gold thread so it gives off a little sparkly sheen like regeneration residue! Sorry to those who have no idea what gibberish I’m talking about. Long-time readers and people who know me in general know that I love me some Doctor Who and am absolutely craycray aboot it and mention the show quite a bit on my blog! >^__^<

Birthday Wishes

My birthday is this Saturday! AHHH!!! My original plans to go to the Happiest Place on Earth fell through, so I won’t be dining with Minnie Mouse for a birthday brunch or scream to my heart’s content on the Tower of Terror *cries tears of sadness* But I do believe that the boyfriend and I will do some exploring out of town, possibly Sacramento. I’m not sure yet. I have a few days to figure it out. I just know that I want the consumption of cupcakes and/or macaroons to be involved!

Anywho, I thought it’d be fun to create a wish list for things I hope to get for my birthday. Just like the Christmas wish list I made last month, I don’t expect to get anything off this list. This is all for funsies 😀

1. Can’t Wait to Be Queen dress from ModCloth

You can’t really see from the picture above, but this dress has horse drawn carriages, horse shoes, and castles all over it! Isn’t it magical? Isn’t it stupendous?! I wanted to wear this dress so badly when I went to Disneyland for my 1yr anniversary in November, but it was either be cute-and-broke or have money to spend around the park. *sigh* Needless to say, I’ve been eyeing this dress for months. Oh, and it’s FINALLY on sale!

2. Gift cards

Who doesn’t love a gift card? I’d specifically like one or two from Joann and/or Michaels since I really need more craft supplies. I have all sorts of things planned out in my head for pieces I’d love to make for my Etsy store and myself!

3. Doctor Who: Adipose stress toy

I get stressed very easily and I love Doctor Who, so this a no brainer, right? Annnd… I think this would be a super awesome thing to have in hand when I attempt to make Adipose pendents out of clay!

These can be found at Think Geek and Hot Topic

4. Doctor Who: TARDIS socks

Tim got me the Doctor Who ankle sock set as an early birthday present and they are ridiculously fantastic! But the weather is still cold, so these knee-length TARDIS socks would be an ideal way to keep my feet and calves warm and wave my nerd flag all at the same time. 🙂

These lovely socks can be found at Hot Topic

5. Little Black Bag

I think Little Black Bag is a pretty awesome concept — you get to pick out 3-4 designer accessories (bags, jewelry, beauty products, etc), but first you take this quiz to see what your style is and then a “stylist” shows you some things you might like, and then you pick what you like, and if you’re not crazy about something you can swap an item with another member online! I think I explained that correctly…? There’s a video on the site that explains it all better than I can.

6. Lady & the Tramp pullover from H&M

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know how desperate I am to get my paws on this beautiful knitted pullover (sweater, jumper, whatever you wanna call it)! I bugged Tim about it during the holiday season by dropping plenty unsubtle hints about how much I wanted it for Christmas. I thought it would be perfect because I love Lady & the Tramp and Tim calls me Pidge just like Tramp. So perfect, right?! But he couldn’t find it! He did his damnedest to find it too — called the ones around him, asked if they could special order it (they can’t), looked online. I ended up calling thirteen H&Ms that were at least an hour and a half away from me to see if they still had any in stock. Every store I called was COMPLETELY sold out, and it’s nowhere to be found on the interwebs. Well, there’s like one eBay listing, but it’s not even the right size. UGH.

Soo… if any of you happen to stumble upon this in a size 10 or 12 LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY.

And I know Forever 21 currently has a Lady & the Tramp pullover in stock, but I honestly think it’s on the fugly side, soo… yeah.

Alright, well that just about sums up my list. I hope you all have a happy Monday (if that’s possible)! 🙂

Cheers,
Nina

fancy geek

Today is Matt Smith’s (a.k.a. “The Doctor”) birthday! I decided to wear some Doctor Who gear in honor of his coolness’ anniversary of birth because the obsessive teeny bopper part of me never died. Does that mean I’m a geeky bopper now? Oi.

And note how my shirt is the exact same pattern as the le fancy geek site! It’s by Rosemary Travale and it’s available on Threadless as a shirt or a tote. Of all my geek shirts, this one is the most subtle as it looks like an ultra fancy damask design. You’d never know it was a TARDIS if you weren’t familiar with the show. 🙂 If I had a house, I would want to wallpaper the dining room in this print. While there isn’t a wallpaper available, you can buy fabric with her “Tardamask” design on Spoonflower.

I also made this 11th Doctor necklace a few days ago. I think it turned out quite nice. I’m trying to find more Doctor Who images to use for jewelry making purposes. When I open Once Upon a Smorgasbord (which I mentioned in this post) I’d like there to be non-Disney things as well.

Jen and I checked out a used bookstore to see if they had cheapy copies of The Devil’s Arithmetic (it’s the next book we have to read for our Children’s Lit. class) or Mary Poppins, but I found a Nick Hornby book (can’t remember the title), The Princess Tales by Gail Carson Levine, The Little Prince (but it was binded the wrong way), and a Disney art book from the 70s. I also went to the public library for the first time in YEARS. When I asked if I could replace my library card, they said I was no longer in the system. Damn.

Jen and I also went to Joann’s Fabrics and I saw that their Halloween candy was on sale, so I bought a bag of candy corn because I’ve been craving it for the past week. But the damn stuff tastes like frosting! That wouldn’t have been such a bad thing if I didn’t eat a Pooh Bear cupcake I bought at Podesto’s yesterday for breakfast this morning. It was like 75% frosting and made me feel all kinds of gross. 😦

So yeah… that’s how my afternoon went (we also went to the Halloween store and ate breakfast food for lunch). Tim and I are going to watch 50/50 later this evening. Too bad he doesn’t like candy corn. What am I supposed to do with the rest of that crap? *le sigh*

outfit details:

  • shirt: Threadless
  • vest: ???
  • jeggings: H&M
  • boots: Madden Girl
  • ring: gift from parents for my 21st birthday
  • necklaces: Once Upon a Smorgasbord and one that Jen gave me

Who-Licious

Comic-Con was a freakin’ Doctor Who fest for me! Unfortunately, after waiting in line for nearly 2 hours on Sunday morning, I didn’t draw a winning ticket to get into the Doctor Who signing. Booo. 😦

On the bright side, I walked away with some awesome Doctor Who swag. 😀

BEHOLD!

I got…

  • Dalek coin bank. I couldn’t find a little Dalek or Cyberman action figure, and stumbled upon this coin bank and thought, “Close enough!” I’ve already dumped my spare change in it.
  • 11th Doctor + River Song’s Sonic Screwdrivers. Now I can coordinate outfits with Sonic Screwdrivers!
  • Water color doodle by Katie Cook. She’s the bestest. If you’re at a convention, and Katie Cook is there, you must, MUST, get yo ass to her booth. Her little water color doodles are only $5 and you can ask her to make whatever you want.
  • Doctor Mew print and buttons. I’ve seen this cat art on Tumblr before and found that the artist, Jenny Parks, had a booth at Con this year! I couldn’t resist nabbing a print and buttons for myself and Tim! My favorite is the 11th Doctor in a fez.
  • BBC America Comic-Con exclusive shirt. I had a bit of buyer’s remorse after I purchased it. I just felt weird not buying anything at the BBC America booth, but I have come to love it. 🙂

One thing I’m sad about is this:

[courtesy of BBC America/Anglophenia]

On Saturday, while I was roaming around the exhibit hall, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan showed up at the BBC America booth! I have no idea where I was when this happened. #@()#()_@*$$&%&&%*#!!+($(! It would’ve been cool to say that I saw the Doctor and Amy Pond with my own eyeballs, y’know? Oh well. I do not own a TARDIS or a Time Turner, so there’s nothing I can do about it.

Something Blue

I’m never without nail polish, I feel awfully naked if my nails don’t have some sort of color on them, but I’m pretty boring when it comes to picking out colors. I tend to stick with reds, pinks, and purples in shimmery, metallic tones because I figure they blend in with my outfits better than any other colors. But on Monday I decided to be adventurous and purchased this baby blue semi metallic/matte polish by Essie called “Sweet Talker” — mostly because I found it in the clearance bin at Target. Holla!

It’s a bit odd having super blue nails. They match my screensaver (which you can download here) quite nicely though. 🙂
