I’ve been to San Francisco/Berkeley A LOT this month; I think I’ve gone a total of five times at least. In fact, I was just there last Sunday for the SF Etsy indie emporium! I would’ve been there again this Sunday, but Shanice and I decided to skip San Francisco Comic-Con since Jason Momoa cancelled his appearance. 😦
On one of my many trips this month (the 20th to be exact), Jen and I headed to Mission: Comics and Arts‘ patch and pin pop-up because we needed wanted more enamel pins in our lives. Unless you’ve been living under a metaphorical rock, you may have noticed enamel pins are all the rage with the kids these days. I’ve been collecting pins on and off since high school to wear on the lapel of my blazer or cardigan. Part of me is excited that indie artists and companies like TeeFury are coming out with quirky pins in full force, but then there’s the other part that absolutely hates it because how the hell am I supposed to save my money when I want to buy them all? <– First world problems at its finest.
Please make sure you don’t buy enamel pins at places like Zara or Francesca’s though, because they’ve blatantly ripped off so many independent artists. Support small businesses, people!
Anyhow, I had a particularly rough morning before we left for SF that day because – TMI ALERT – Rory got shit on me. Yep. You read that correctly, I shit you not. While we were on our usual morning walk, a couple across the way were riding their bikes with their dog that was off leash, and he wandered over our way. Rory got startled and started flipping out, and when I pulled him back I noticed he had wet poop around his butt, some on his tail, and there was a little droplet on the sidewalk. The dog eventually went away, and I kept on walking, but then I thought, “That can’t be all of it, can it…?” And low and behold, there was a nice splash of Rory’s canine fecal matter on my left shoe, sock, and both sides of my leggings. – insert angry emoji face here – I was NOT having it that morning. When I took a shower I nearly slipped in the tub, and found myself yelling, “NOT TODAY, SATAN” out loud. So you can imagine how amused I was to see Sabretooth Dreams’ “Not Today, Satan” pin at the pop-up. It was an obvious instant purchase.
I also picked up a couple Star Wars pins by Yesterdays (Boba Fett shaped like a boba drink, ha!), Ilana and Abbi from Broad City donned in Dumb & Dumber attire, a mint It’s-It pin (It’s-It is the real San Francisco treat, don’t let Rice-O-Roni fool you), and an actual It’s-It green tea ice cream sandwich that’s not pictured since I devoured it upon purchase. Oh, and I also got to see Gladys from Usagi in Wonderland! Her pin game is so strong. 😀
