V-Day

Nerd love.

I used to like Valentine’s Day… y’know, in elementary school where we’d take an hour off towards the end of the day and have a party with punch, cookies, and pass out Valentines to all the classmates. When that stopped happening and I realized that Valentine’s Day is really just a holiday for couples to express their love for one another (don’t even try to tell me that it’s not just for romantic love, but all kinds of love, because that is bull), I became quite bitter. None of the boys ever had a crush on me in school, therefore I never received any Valentine grams during 6th period (except for that time my mom sent me one and signed it as Jon Bon Jovi :(), and my track record with dating damn near doesn’t exist.

But alas, this year was not the same! I actually got to do disgustingly cute things because I haz a man now! Tim and I agree that it’s still a silly holiday, but since this year was our first one together we decided to go ahead and celebrate. Before we left for San Francisco, we exchanged presents. I made Tim a mixtape, which I will blog about this weekend because I forgot to take pictures of it and it’s too rad to not blog about (I’m super proud of it, okay?), a picture frame, and an Ellie badge from Up. Tim got me a couple of boxes of Godiva chocolates and some super awesome Minnie Mouse headphones!!! He also wrote me a sweet letter that made me cry because I’m weird like that.

My Valentine’s Day swag.
I was super excited when I saw that Tim was wearing a purple tie — it totally matched the Ellie badge I got for him!

We kicked off our festivities at Dynamo Donuts (I’ve blogged about them before here). Their customer service is always awesome, but yesterday was outstanding! The guy who helped us complimented our snazzy outfits and let us sample some beer flavored ice cream that a nearby ice cream shop made (it was from the last batch and a customer from earlier that day brought them a scoop). And he was super helpful in telling us about certain donuts they had available for the day, and even suggested I don’t get the powdered gluten free one since it would mess up my outfit. Dynamo Donuts never ceases to amaze me. Seriously. I can’t get over them. Dude with the bowtie, you’re awesome!

Heart Beet donut.
Matchy-matchy. This was pure coincidence.

After we ate our delicious donuts, we went downtown because I wanted to look at the Disney Store. The upper floor has a little kids table in front of a screen that plays musical scenes from different Disney movies, and we saw that there were crayons and coloring pages ready to be colored. We sat there for a good 30 minutes. One of the cast members even came by and told us we were doing a good job. Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

After I finished coloring my princess page, I helped Tim finish coloring his Winnie the Pooh page.

After coloring and oogling at the adorable huggable stuffed Disney characters, I suggested that we go to the Ferry Building since Tim told me he’s never been there. When we got there, we saw a gaggle of pillow clad people. I kind of forgot that SF has this annual pillow fight every Valentine’s Day. It looked kind of boring to me, to be honest. I was talking to my boss about it after my shift (yes, I work now!) and she said that maybe the point of the pillow fight is to let out aggression. And then I said maybe it’s for single people who really hate Valentine’s Day. o,0

The annual Valentine’s Day pillow fight in SF looked kind of uneventful.

We were going to try and find a place to eat dinner around Embarcadero, but the place I wanted to eat at was closed! Tim suggested we eat at Sanraku, a Japanese restaurant that my family and I really like, but it was a 23 minute walk away. Since it was in the area where we parked our car, the trek there was worth it. By this time, it was effin’ cold and windy and I cursed at myself for wearing a skirt, but I knew that sweet sesame chicken and miso soup were in my near-future. I often craved Sanraku’s sesame chicken when I was in high school. I had eaten there a few times with my aunts from the area. To this day, I still think it’s the greatest sesame chicken I’ve ever eaten. Dammit, I’m making myself hungry!

After dinner, we made quick little shopping trips to Rasputin and Nordstrom.ย  And for dessert we got strawberry cream puffs from Beard Papa (which is their GREATEST FLAVOR EVER) and orange cream soda.b

Needless to say, my first Valentine’s Day was A M A Z I N G!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

The Burpateer

I wasn't sure if I matched or not before I headed out the house, but I think this ensemble turned out quite cute.

I’ve had this urge to watch The Rocketeer for over a year — it’s a childhood favorite of mine and I had the biggest crush on Cliff Secord (played by Billy Campbell). Did you know that The Rocketeer celebrated its 20th anniversary this year? God, I feel sooooo old. Anyway, when I went to Rasputin (a used music/movie store) with Tim yesterday and found it for $8, I was SO EFFING EXCITED. I even did a little happy dance! I also found a copy of Remember the Titans, which is what I originally wanted to go to Rasputin for (and also because Tim said he almost bought 101 Dalmatians the day before and I demanded that he buy it). Afterwards we headed to Target to grab some A&W Cream Soda for our burping contest… I know, we are so classy. I kicked Tim’s ass by the way. Hehe.

Alan Arkin was in the this movie too, and he has hair! Terry O'Quinn was also in it, and he had hair as well! It was so weird. x___x

Tim had never heard of The Rocketeer and I was so appalled (or shocked, whichever sounds better), so I made him watch it. I was a bit worried that it was going to suck because you know how when you revisit things from your childhood, like movies and TV shows, you have all these high expectations, but then when you re-watch them they suck and suddenly it feels like your childhood was a complete sham? Yeah… thank God The Rocketeer holds up. It’s a cult classic for a reason!

I finally got to watch Crazy Stupid Love too, which was pretty good. I spent most of it saying, “Uh… lucky bitch. I hate her!” <– referring to how Emma Stone got to cuddle with Ryan Gosling. And I’m confused by how Ryan Gosling was able to make eating pizza look incredibly sexy. I mean, look:

Do you get? I don’t get it.

Pizza with sausage. Om nom nom.

So yep, that was my Sunday.

Oh yeah, I also sold 2 necklaces yesterday! ๐Ÿ˜€

Top 5: A Few of My Favorite Things Edition

I’ve had “A Few of My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music stuck in my head for about an hour, so I thought, “Hmm, why not do a top 5 thingy of my current favorite things on my blog.” So very High Fidelity (and unoriginal) if I do say so myself.

1. Pullovers

I LOVE pullovers. I’m surprised I haven’t done a post completely dedicated to my growing collection yet. They’re just so nice and comfy and you can dress them up, or down. I particularly like the graphic ones, especially if there’s a Disney character on it! Jen bought this super adorable Winnie the Pooh one for me (because she’s just rad like that) the other day. Forever 21 has a plethora of cute pullovers, I can’t stand it!

2. Jammie Dodgers

I didn’t even know what the hell a Jammie Dodger was until the 11th Doctor tried to fight the Daleks off with one in Doctor Who last year. And I found them at World Market a few weeks ago. At first I thought it tasted bland, but the more I ate, the more I liked it. I like eating them with tea. It makes me feel British.

3. Dead Man’s Bones/Ryan Gosling

I’ve been listening to a lot of Dead Man’s Bones lately (Ryan Gosling’s band with Zach Shields). They only have one album out that was released a couple years ago. Dead Man’s Bones I guess could be called “indie macabre” as their sound and songs subject matter are quite eerie. My mom heard some of it and said, “You like weird music” and “This sounds emo.” *shoulder shrug*

Tim and I are currently crushing really hard on Ryan Gosling aka “Baby Goose.” I mean, who isn’t? We’re competing over who will have his accidental babies first (even though he has no idea we exist, and Tim is a straight guy and can’t procreate with another man because it’s physically impossible). I never thought I’d ever fight over a man with my best guy friend. x__x

4. Once Upon a Time

When I first saw a preview for Once Upon a Time (while watching the last Harry Potter movie) I thought, “OH MY GOD, THEY’RE RIPPING OFF FABLES!” In case you’re not familiar, Fables is a really awesome graphic novel series about fairytale characters thriving in the real world in their own community after being forced out of their Homelands by a power called The Adversary. Anywho, I looked into Once Upon a Time a bit more, and saw that it wasn’t exactly the same and actually seemed interesting. Now I anticipate every Sunday to come see what’s going to happen! And Jamie Dorman as the Sheriff… *droolz*

5. Mindy Kaling

I have a girlcrush on Mindy Kaling. I don’t watch The Office religiously, and I haven’t read her book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) yet (I’m dying to get it though!), but I follow her on Twitter and read her blog, and I just feel like her and I need to be BFFs immediately. I mean, she and I love jeggings. We don’t know what real pants feel like anymore. Is that weird? Yeah, that’s probably weird. I mean, the thing about me wanting to be her BFF even though I don’t watch the show she stars and writes for all the time. Not the the thing about the jeggings. Those things rule, they’re not weird. She’d probably think I’m weird though. Damn.

PS: I am so overwhelmed with the response I got from my Rapunzel giveaway! I’m glad you’re all interested and thanks so much for participating and following my ‘lil ‘ol blog. ๐Ÿ˜€

CandyLand!

On Wednesday Jen, Shanice, Thomas and I headed to Monterey for a micro vacation! It didn’t exactly go as we had hoped — we got jipped on SO MANY THINGS. From food to souvenirs, and even the places we planned to visit! We went on the 17 Mile drive to go to Pebble Beach, but we passed it on the way (we couldn’t find the entrance part to the beach). We were all tired and hungry, so we said “Eff it” and checked into the hotel, then went to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. Dinner was good (we don’t have a CPK in Stockton anymore, and we miss their tiramisu!), we were just a bit bummed about the whole Pebble Beach thing.

Afterwards we did some exploring. Shanice and I both loooove Salt Water Taffy and I saw an add for a candy store on Cannery Row that had over 70 flavors!!! And it was in the same shopping center the big antique mall I wanted to go to was in. However, all the stores were already closed. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Oh, you know how they weigh candy to determine how much it is? Well, my original amount came out as $15. I was like, “HELL NO!” I mean, that is a ridiculous amount, right? So I went back and tried to dump out as much as I could, but I was getting irritated by running to all the different flavors and once again said, “Eff it” and just bought it. My new total came out as $13. x____x

Maybe I should’ve tried to control my taffy urges. Anywho…

O.P.I. nail polish “Rumple’s Wiggin”

At least I got to take some fun pictures. I’ll share photos from the 17 Miles drive shortly! ๐Ÿ™‚
