Nerdvember: The Final Week!

Whoooops, I’ve been so busy with work and trying to finish up inventory for Whimsic Alley’s Geeky Faire (which is happening TOMORROW!) that I totally forgot to make a post about my outfits for the final week of Set to Stunning’s Nerdvember challenge/contest! Mah bad.

Day 22: Winter is Coming

My sister and I headed to San Francisco so she could check out the ModCloth Fit Shop and meet up with our friend Brooke. I decided to wear my Lulu Tops Westeros Map dress (I do believe it’s a faux version of the Black Milk Clothing one, but whatever), a pair of earrings by Nerdy Buy Still Girly with Jon Snow and Ghost, and my Robb Stark necklace. We found the perfect snowflake backdrop at the mall to take pictures in front of too! 😀

Day 23: You Can’t Sith With Us

I layered my favorite Darth Vader pullover over my black and white tartan dress and paired it with my faux leather pink motorcycle jacket, Darth Vader brooch, and plushie Vader backpack. Kind of felt very Mean Girls x Clueless.

Day 24: Where the Wild Things Are

I layered my Where the Wild Things Are pullover by Out of Print Clothing over the Old Navy dress I wore for my cousin’s wedding, but totally didn’t realize how wrinkled it was until my friend Norma took my picture after we got out of class. Whoops!

Day 25: BB-8

You guys, I seriously love Utinni Bikini. I have a problem. I bought this BB-8 dress when they were having a special sale during Halloween, so I immediately placed an order. Haha! Even though I love the Dark Side, I do love some of the “good guys” too. And y’all know BB-8 has stolen my heart. ♥

Day 26: Happy Sithsgiving!

Basically a variation of Day 23’s outfit. Haha! My mom also happened to wear a Star Wars sweater for Thanksgiving too. We didn’t even plan to match, it just happened. The Force must be strong in my family! 🙂

Day 27: Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey

The folks at Level Up sent me a package full of some timey-wimey goodness! I paired the TARDIS belt and pendant that came in the package with my Her Universe dress featuring all the baddies from Doctor Who, along with a pendant I made with my companion, Rory, and a hair bow by my friend Jen (Walrus of the Sea). GERONIMO!

I’ll be making a special, more detailed post about the goodies I got, so be on the lookout for that!

Day 28: You Can’t Sith With Us: Part Deux

In case you’re wondering, yes. That is ANOTHER dress by Utinni Bikini. It has AT-ATs and Stormtroopers all over it! After I placed my order for the BB-8 dress, I got a message saying that I could get another dress for a super cheap price plus free shipping, soooo I caved in. Also, I’m feelin’ this bowler hat, you guys. Not sure if you can tell since it’s popped up in quite a few of my Nerdvember photos. 😛

Day 29: BB-8: Part Deux

BB-8 FOREVER AND EVER!! I ordered this BB-8 bomber by Her Universe while my sister drove us to Disneyland for Season of the Force a few weeks ago, and it finally came in on the 25th (unbeknowst to be since my email notification was buried in my inbox). I was also feeling particularly lazy this day and couldn’t be bothered to brush my hair. But I took a picture anyway because I was very determined to get all 30 days of November documented. 😛

Day 30: Girly Looking Nerfherder

For my final outfit of Nerdvember I paired this velvet black dress with Han and Leia pins I got at Disneyland, my Millennium Falcon belt, and Darth Vader purse. On my Instagram my description was:

Han Solo vibes today because sometimes I need a reminder to be a scruffy looking badass nerfherder. And self rescuing princess, and sometimes Sith Lord… I’m complicated.

So that’s a wrap on Nerdvember! I hope you all enjoyed my geek inspired outfits throughout the month. 😀

A Wish List For My Birthday

birthday wish list 2015

R2-D2 suitcase // Keiko Bonlook glasses
The Little Prince pullover // Duffy Bear purse // Totoro dress
Hansel & Gretel by Neil Gaiman //Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley

Hey my little ponies! My birthday is on everyone’s least favorite day of the week: Monday. But I have the day off, so it won’t be so dreadful (at least I hope it won’t)! A few of my friends and I are going to dress up and head to San Francisco to have tea at a cute little tea shop to celebrate. I’m super excited!

I threw this little wish list together for funsies, I’m not expecting to get any of these things from my friends or family. In fact, I’m probably going to buy myself that Totoro dress by Her Universe if it’s still in stock at Hot Topic when my Hot Cash becomes active. Hopefully they’ll still have my size in stock! I’ve been waiting for this dress to come out ever since I saw pictures of it at Her Universe’s fashion show at San Diego Comic-Con. 🙂

What’s on your wish list?

cheers

5 Fandom Friday: Stores I’d Love Throw All My Money At For Black Friday Deals

Screen-Shot-2014-09-25-at-7.48.24-AM

Black Friday is here, followed by Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday! I’m braving it out this weekend solely for the free Downton Abbey cups that World Market will be giving away all weekend (yeah, I know that’s ludicrous, but I love Downton Abbey and the cups are so cute!), but I’m mostly interested in shopping online because I won’t have to deal with crazy shoppers. So here are some of the places I’d love to throw all my money at!

1. Stay Home Club

Oh, Stay Home Club. All the merch on their web store just speaks to my soul as a self-professed disgruntled anti-social homebody. From now until midnight you can take 25% off your entire order, including gift cards! I’m definitley snagging the Stay Home dogs t-shirt that I’ve been eyeing for what feels like forever! The pup on the top looks like my little fluffers too. 😀

Be sure to use the code YEAHFRIDAY at checkout!

2. Her Universe

Tons of prices on geektastic fashions have been slashed mercilessly — some styles are even up to 60% off — and an adorable holiday Boba Fett pin comes with every purchase of $25 or more (while supplies last)! I’ve been eyeing the Avengers Icon Dress since they released it earlier this year and it’s on sale for $25 right now (normally $45)!!! Annnd, the Goodbye Raggedy Man tank I’ve been coveting is on sale for a whopping $15!

3. Think Geek

Think Geek if offering selected items for up to 60% off PLUS an additional 20% off orders $40+, 25% off orders $100+, and 30% off orders $100+! Talk about great savings, riiight?! One of the things I’m totally drooling over is the R2-D2 car charger which is $29.99 (originally $39.99). I honestly haven’t gone through the rest of the site to see what other amazing geeky things they have because I’m trying not to be THAT much of a masochist.

Use code ELFINSALE up until the 29th at 11:59 pm PST

4. Out of Print

I have a number of things from Out of Print and I love them just as much as the books they’re based on! Right now everything in their web store is 30% off! EVERYTHING. And they released some Where the Wild Things Are swag not too long ago and oh-my-gawd, I need them so! – cries –

5. Clashist

I love Clashist’s outrageous t-shirts soooo effing much, but my bank account hates their prices. I do own their Ryan Gosling shirt which is by far the sexiest thing in my closet, and worth every penny! Up until 11:59 pm on the 29th, you can use these codes to save some $$$:

  • SANTABALLS off orders $230+
  • FROSTYBALLS off orders $130+
  • JINGLEBALLS off orders $55+

The t-shirts I’m absolutely drooling over are the Ron Swanson Breakfast tee, Bill Murray Dot tee, and the Wes Anderson Volume 1 tee.

Are you braving it out in the real world for some great deals or are you sticking with online sales? Let me know in the comments!

Cheers,
Nina

Jack’s Back

On Friday night I flew down to San Diego to visit my sister (I’m staying here until Sunday, wooo!). Since we renewed our Annual Passes to Disneyland, a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth was in order… obviously. In fact, we went twice already! We only planned on going once, but since she had Monday off we thought, “Why not?”

The Haunted Mansion has currently undergone a holiday make-over and is decked out in all things The Nightmare Before Christmas now. This is one of the reasons why I love visiting Disneyland during the holiday season. I actually prefer the Haunted Mansion like that because it’s still creepy, but more cheery compared to the original, and it doesn’t make me think about my mortality — because who wants to think about that while they’re at Disneyland? So when we went on Saturday, I figured it would be perfect for me to wear my Jack Skellington dress! I paired it with a skeleton hand hair clip, my Poe-ka-Dot bag from Out of Print (if Edgar Allan Poe were alive today, I’m sure he’d be a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas), some fishnet stockings, and my black Chucks that are totally falling apart. I think it looked cuter when I wore the dress with black ballet flats, but I figured the Chucks were a more comfy option for galavanting around the park.

My fellow Disnerds, have you been to Disneyland during the holiday season? If so, what’s your favorite part about it? And if you haven’t gone, what would you love to see most? 😀

Cheers,
Nina

This Friday I’m heading to Portland! Thank goodness because I’ve been feeling very out of sorts lately, so I’m much too eager to escape California and explore a new city in another state. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Portland, and I’ve been told by several people that I’d love it, so to say I’m excited about finally going is an understatement.  And we’re [Jen, Caitlin, and myself] dedicating a day to just wandering around Powell’s, which I cannot stop thinking about. If you’re not familiar with Powell’s, it’s one of the biggest bookstores around — it contains millions of used and new books within five glorious floors! God, that place must smell divine (book smell is one of the best smells). I really need to write down a book list because I feel like if I go in there without a game plan I will be lost and utterly overwhelmed.

Speaking of bookstores, this outfit shoot was done at Tom’s Used Books in Lodi. We don’t have a whole lot of bookstores around, so it’s nice to know this little gem isn’t too far away, and kittens roam throughout the whole store! Many of the books that are in my personal library have been purchased from Tom’s, including a copy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s that looks very much like a first edition, but I still can’t tell if it is or not — it doesn’t even say what edition it is inside the book. Anyhow, I thought it would be fun to do this shoot at Tom’s because of my Edgar Allan Poe, or rather Poe-ka Dot, tote from Out of Print. My mom got it for me for Valentine’s Day last month. Isn’t it the bestest?! I paired it with this burgundy dress I found at Ross last October. I normally don’t like what I call “mullet dresses” — it’s like, do you want to be a maxi dress or a mini? Make up your mind! But I really liked this one when I saw it because it had a Lady Mary/macabre-ish vibe to it. I also incorporated some Haunted Mansion pieces to the ensemble with my hair bow and necklace that feature the painting of the parasol girl from the stretching room. Edgar Allan Poe, Haunted Mansion… they’re both gloomy so I figured they could all work with this outfit. And my bullet bracelet was handmade by my friend Megan… like, seriously all handmade by her, right down to the hook and d-rings. She’s crazy talented. Her and I did a little jewelry trade, so I gave her one of my Ron Swanson necklaces for that beaut of a bracelet. Please check out her jewelry over at Anna Grace Design! 🙂

Do any of you have anything special planned for spring break?

Cheers,
Nina

The Great CATSby

outfit details – glasses: Derek Cardigan (buy here) // pullover: Out of Print Clothing (buy here)

Hello, Old Sports!

With the recent release of the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, I wanted to re-read the novel before seeing the movie… ’cause that’s how I roll. My expectations aren’t too high for it though; I already have a feeling that it’s going to be one of those the-book-is-better-than-the-movie kind of deals. And Christina Hendricks should’ve totally been cast as Myrtle Wilson, am I right?! I mean, Isla Fisher is gorgeous, but Myrtle’s described as having a bit more of a figure. Plus Christina Hendricks and Carey Mulligan are my lady loves, so it would’ve been mind blowing to see them in a movie together! Anyhow, I found my old copy from high school with notes dated from May of 2002 (#hellaold!) hidden within the pages, but both of my part time jobs have kept me busy and so has my Etsy store, so I haven’t really found a whole lot of time to sit down and read. RUGH. But thankfully audiobooks exist ! I just bought the version Jake Gyllenhaal narrates on Audible (it’s $6.95!!!), and I’m listening to it as I type this very blog post!

The glasses I’m wearing might look familiar — I put them on my “Wishful Wednesdays” post awhile ago. I bought them immediately after I wrote the post too. Waste time I do not! The frames are a lot smaller than I’m used to, but I really like them. I’ve always wanted to try out cat eye frames too. And just like my first order from Coastal.com, the glasses came in a nice case and also came with a bottle of glasses cleaner, a cloth to wipe them with, and a screwdriver to tighten/loosen the glasses. I was a little freaked out when I first put them on though because they were really narrow and had the sides of my face in a tight bear hug. I thought, “OMG, NOOO! I don’t want to have to return these!” And then I remembered that I could go to LensCrafters and have them adjust the glasses for me, and for free nonetheless. Crisis averted! I’m over the moon about these glasses, and I loooove the fact that they have semicolons and colons on them. It’s a subtle detail, but as someone who majored in Creative Writing I can’t help but be super excited about it. Haha! If you haven’t checked out Coastal.com, they have smorgasbord of fantastically wonderful frames and first-time customers get their first pair of glasses for free. Well, you pay for shipping, but other than that they’re FREE!

And don’t my new glasses look just dandy with my The Great Gatsby pullover?  😉

Cheers,
Nina

“Isn’t it pretty to think so.”

outfit details – shirt: Out of Print Clothing (buy here) // peter pan collar necklace: TJMaxx (doesn’t have a brand label) // cardigan: Kersh // belt: Mossimo // skirt: Xhileration (buy here) //boots: Steve Madden // glasses: Derek Cardigan (buy here)

On Friday I went to San Francisco with Jen and Shanice since I didn’t have to work in the morning. Yay four-day weekend (for me anyway)!!! While Jen went to school, Shanice and I window-shopped around the downtown area and I picked up a Glinda wand at the Disney Store! But all the walking around we did left us ridiculously tired and the burgers we ate for lunch didn’t pack much energy. And I spent effing $3.50 on orange juice because I was too tired and thirsty to find Jamba Juice (gift card yo!), but it just so happened to be right next to Jen’s school. *grumble* By the time we met up with Jen to take pictures in the studio I was feeling pretty loopy from being malnourished and dehydrated. I lept, danced, spun in the spinny chairs, and made stupid faces during and in between test shots. Lots of silliness occurred (see picture below).

I posed for a few photos for Jen’s digital photography class and did some for funsies. I found a beautiful typewriter on the props table and had to incorporate it into my shoot since it went perfectly with my The Sun Also Rises shirt from Out of Print Clothing! This might look familiar to you as it was on my Christmas Wish List post in December. Tim ended up getting it for me for Christmas 😀 I added a glitzy Peter Pan collar necklace to it that I found at TJMaxx last month. Fancy, yah? Ernest Hemingway probably wouldn’t be impressed, but that’s okay. Me likes it! I read The Sun Also Rises for a Modern American Novel class during my first semester as SFSU. It was the only book I thoroughly enjoyed from that course, which is kind of sad considering that we read five books. Well, I find it sad anyway.

You know what else is sad? I sent my camera off to Best Buy to get it checked out — it’s unfixable and the camera I had is no longer sold/available so now I have to go and look for another one! They gave me a list of cameras that are “comparable” to mine, but they were all regular point and shoots whereas mine was a DSLR. I don’t want to do camera homework! I just know that I’m looking to get another Canon. I’m kinda iffy of the G15, which is basically the upgraded version of my camera, just because it doesn’t have a swivel screen and the screen it does have is exposed. I need the swivel screen. I just do, okay? Okay.

If you happen to be into cameras, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Cheers,
Nina

Once Upon a Midnight Dreary

The Raven

My Super Bowl Sunday was spent by shopping and watching Liberal Arts (which is basically like a super long episode of How I Met Your Mother) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Tim and I actually had a bit of a How I Met Your Mother/ Susan Sarandon movie weekend since we watched Jeff, Who Lives At Home which stars Jason Segel and co-stars Surandon as his mother, and then Liberal Arts was written and directed by Ted Mosby Josh Radnor, and we followed that with Rocky Horror in which Sarandon plays Janet Weiss.

I am so thankful that Tim has no interest in American football. Dudes like that are so hard to find — they’re basically unicorns! Um… I just called my boyfriend a unicorn. o,0

Anyhow, since the team that won the Super Bowl is named after an Edgar Allan Poe poem I thought it would be fun to make an outfit based around Out of Print Clothing’s “The Raven” long-sleeved shirt. And BTW, they’re having a little sale in honor of their 3rd anniversary and for being able to send 440,000 books to various literary causes (yay reading!!!). So until Feb. 7 you can take 20% off your purchase with the code BOOKSFORALL. Now I can finally get that The Great Gatsby pullover I’ve been drooling over for years (that thing has been on every wish list and I still have yet to get it)! 😀

Here are a few versions of “The Raven” recited by Vincent Price and James Earl Jones (he did the narration on The Simpsons one too):

Click here to watch The Simpsons’ version

Hope your Monday’s not too dreary (especially if you’re a Niners fan).

Cheers,
Nina

All I Want For Christmas

If you want something, you must put it out there so the universe will know. I’m not sure where I heard that from, but if that’s the case, then consider this blog post containing my Christmas Wish List as me putting what I want out in the universe.

My birthday is exactly one month from today too, so I suppose this post could also be called “All I Want For Christmas AND My Birthday, In Case I Don’t Get It For Christmas.” Chances of me getting anything off of this list are slim to none, so… wait, why I am making this list again? Oh right… to put it out in the universe. Alright, so here goes!

* Literary Pullovers & T-Shirts by Out of Print Clothing:

I’m trying to stay away from asking for books since I have more than enough books that I have yet read, so clothing adorned with my favorite pieces of literature should be more than appropriate! I’ve been drooling over all the goodies at Out Of Print Clothing for quite sometime now. Years in fact. The Great Gatsby (unisex small) and Alice in Wonderland (ladies xl) pullovers have caught my fancy and so has the The Sun Also Rises tee (ladies xxl).

Like how I conveniently added what sizes I need? 😉

* The Catcher in the Rye Locket by Sparkle Lab:

The Catcher in the Rye book locket w/ chain (large)

I want literary inspired jewelry too, please! My copy of The Catcher in the Rye is just the plain white cover, but I really want the one with the carousel horse. Rather than getting another copy, why not get this necklace instead? 🙂 It saves space on the bookshelf and would make a good addition to any outfit!

* The Fault In Our Stars Necklace by Authored Adornments

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Antiqued Bronze Book Page Necklace

A cute little necklace containing words from one of my favorite books that was written by one of my heros? Yes please!

* Doctor Who TARDIS Robe from ThinkGeek:

Okay, so this robe isn’t the cutest thing ever, however it looks super cozy and I really want to wear it so I can spin around the house saying, “vwoomp… vwooomp… vwooomp… eeee oooo … eeee oooo…” Don’t judge me.

BTW, I think I’d need this in a medium. Boyfriend, are you reading this? Mother? Friends?

It’s also a bit cheaper here.

* Chewbacca Lego Earrings by Rockets and Rainbows:

Chewbacca Lego Earrings - Statement Drop Earrings with Beadwork and Gold Chains

Do I have to explain why I want these? They’re fancy AND geeky. And, oh hey, my blog’s name happens to be Le Fancy Geek. Coincidence? Also, they were made by Jennifer Landa. If you don’t know who she is, then you need to Google her IMMEDIATELY because she’s awesome and is one of my interweb heroes.

* Lesportsac Bags:

  1. It’s a Small World – Picture Tote in ‘Midnight Harmony’ print
  2. Manoush – Chou Chou Crossbody bag
  3. It’s a Small World – Deluxe Everyday Bag in the ‘Fancy That’ print

My inner bag hag is hurtin’ for more purses since I’ve been eliminating a lot from my collection. I don’t really have a nice everyday black bag, and I really dig the coin purse closure and little details on this Manoush x Lesportsac purse. And I also really like the fact that it’s an over-the-shoulder kind of bag. No’mo sore shoulders! 🙂 And the It’s A Small World bags… I don’t need to explain why I want those. You all know I love Disney and Mary Blair. Plus I already blogged about how much I those bags not too long ago.

* Longchamp ‘Le Pilage’ Tote:

Longchamp bags are classic, non-fussy, and easy to store (they fold right up!). I got a little navy blue one when I went to Paris 10 years ago in the duty free store at the airport, but I gave it to my mom since I found that it doesn’t store all the things I need on the go. This ‘Le Pilgae’ tote is the perfect size! I really love it in the ‘Fir’ shade (pictured above) or ‘Bordeux.’

It can be found here.

* Membership to D23:

I’m a Disney fan and D23 is the official Disney fan club. It all makes perfect sense!

* Rarity v-neck from RedBubble:

Rarity is one of my many spirit animals. And this shirt by BambooDog is ridiculously adorable!

* Daisy Duck locket by Disney Couture:

Daisy Duck was my favorite as a kid, but I grew very annoyed with the lack of Daisy Duck dolls, shirts, and what-have-you so I switched to Minnie since she was more accessible. This locket would FINALLY allow me to rep my love for Daisy Duck, who seems to always get forgotten. I mean, all the times I’ve gone to Disneyland (and I’ve been there A LOT) she’s NEVER been there. What’s up with that?

* Batman Varsity Hoodie from Hot Topic:

I’ve always liked varsity jackets and Batman, so the two combined make for a seriously awesome combination! How cute would this be with a pleated skirt and boots? AH!

* Mad Men Season 5 DVD:

Mad Men is on of the only TV shows that I’ve been collecting on DVD consistently. Can you imagine how sad I was that all the seasons except for this one were on sale during Black Friday? RAGE!!! And this season was so ridiculously well executed with the storyline. And I love me some Christina Hendricks… and Jon Hamm, of course.

* Gift Cards:

So many people say that gift cards are inpersonal, but I think they’re just as thoughtful as any other gift because it’s like the giver is saying, “I want you to be able to get whatever YOU want!” Gift cards to the following would be greatly appreciated: Amazon.com, Etsy, TJ Maxx/Marshalls, Ross, Disney Store, H&M, Forever 21, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes so I can buy fancy apps for my iPad.

Well, that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I know there’s a few more things, but I do believe that the contents of this blog are more than enough! Have any of you made wish lists yet?

Cheers,
Nina
