Fall Dapper Day at Disneyland is happening today and I am having a major case of fomo. I love going to Dapper Day because it’s so fun to see everyone decked out to the nines. I got to go to the Spring Dapper Day event back in April; my friends and I coordinated with Marvel themed Disneybound outfits. I was torn between putting together a Captain America outfit or a Loki one, but Loki’s got way more swag and I have more green, black, and gold in my closet than red, white, and blue. Spring Dapper Day took place a few days after my sister’s wedding, so Shanice helped me keep my victory rolls intact because I thought they’d go perfect with my pinup inspired Loki ensemble. My hair was so crunchy and flaky from all the hairspray I used, but that’s what happens when you’re burdened with dapper purpose 😛

Since Thor Ragnarok hit theaters I’ve got both of Odin’s boys on the brain, and I saw that guests can now meet both Thor AND Loki at California Adventure!! And BTW – how AMAZING was Thor Ragnarok?! Captain America will forever be my fictional husband, but Thor is legit the best Avenger, and I’m so happy with the direction this film went in. Taika Waititi for all the things, please!!

Accio Geek Apparel: A Loot Wear Review

Last month’s Loot Wear was full of magical items from franchises like Doctor Strange, Kingdom Hearts, Adventure, but most importantly (at least to me anyway) Harry Potter! If you’re unfamiliar with Loot Wear, it’s a monthly geeky mystery apparel subscription service. There are 5 different subscriptions you can get, or you can pick a bundle to get multiple items!

Every month’s theme includes items from franchises that are related, so I was pretty damn excited when I saw that Loot Wear’s November wearble and socks subscriptions would include Harry Potter items! Here’s all the stuff that came with it:

Loot Tee:

I wasn’t too excited about the Doctor Strange movie despite the fact that I’m a self-proclaimed “Cumberbitch” because of the whole Asian whitewashing thing. I do want to look into the comics eventually though. With that prejudice aside, I thought the Doctor Strange tee was cleverly designed and I love the fact that it’s like an ugly Christmas sweater! I paired the tee with my navy polka dot skirt, a gold belt, and some red ballet flats. I would’ve worn my red cardigan with this, but it was nowhere to be found. Oh well!

Loot for Her:

A pair of Kingdom Hearts socks was included in a previous subscription with the same design as this scarf. Though I don’t play the game, I’ve gotten the most use out of this particular item besides the Harry Potter lounge pants because it’s super warm and cozy! I think the symbols are inconspicuous enough for me to get away with wearing it. And as you can see from the pics, I wear the scarf two different ways 🙂

Socks, Wearble, Undies:

The Harry Potter socks are hands down the best socks Loot Wear’s come out with. EVER. They are soooooooo cute!!!!! I can’t stand it! And I’ve been wearing the lounge pants non-stop (don’t worry, they’ve been washed twice already). They’re on the lightweight side, so I have to bundle up on blankets to keep me warm at night. But I still love ’em! Make sure you watch the unpacking video to get a better look at them and the Lemongrab undies.

I Know My Value

It’s almost been a month since the world turned upside down, and I’m still trying to process everything. Like… how the hell did this happen?! If you haven’t been living under a proverbial rock, surely you know what I’m talking about.

I struggle with considering myself an optimist (now more than ever) because despite my great need to have a strong moral compass, and desire to believe that there’s kindness and compassion in the world thanks to my heavy Disney diet as a child, I can’t help but feel frustrated and despondent knowing that everyday some form of hate is being spread. With the results of the election, I’ve noticed that people who have opposing views to mine are growing a hell of a lot more bolder in spreading that hate. Sure, others who are like-minded to my views posted many encouraging things on social media that basically said they support you if you’re female, black, LGBTQ+, latinx, or muslim. Well, I identify as female, but why aren’t asians as a whole included in this list? As a community, we’re just as angry, hurt, scared, and frustrated as any other community. Hollywood has already left me feeling quite marginalized; as much as I love Marvel, the backlash that came with Doctor Strange has me seething with rage. I know the director acknowledged the issues of whitewashing, but I found his excuses to be very weak. Story tellers, talented ones at least, are able to overcome such obstacles as writing ethnic characters that aren’t racially stereotypical. I could go on about the frustration I feel over the lack of asian representation in Hollywood, but I feel like that’s a whole other blog post.

Despite my recent frustrations with Marvel’s cinematic universe, they did give me and the rest of the geek community Peggy Carter. She’s been a beacon of light for us geek girls (and boys) by being a scrappy bad ass that takes shit from no one. This Agent Carter inspired dress from Her Universe almost feels like armor in a sense because I feel like I can kick ass and take names whenever I wear it (and it has pockets!).

Over the past month, I’ve been turning to different fandoms to find some form of comfort because escapism every now and then is needed in times like these. Whether it’s Poe Dameron saying “As long as there’s light, we’ve got a chance,” Albus Dumbledore saying “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one remembers to turn on the light,” or the Hamilton soundtrack in its entirety, they all fill me with a bit of hope and inspiration. But Peggy’s infamous “I know my value” line has been coming to the forefront of my mind a lot more lately. The quote in its entirety ends with “Anyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter.” I know that my life and those in my community are worth it just as much as anyone else’s, even if others don’t seem to think so.

Tourists for the Day: A San Francisco Adventure

A couple of weeks ago (on Harry Potter’s birthday to be exact 😛 ),  my Auntie Nelly randomly suggested that we go to Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco for the day. I’m not sure what prompted the idea, but I was totally down to be a tourist for the day! When my sister and I were little, Auntie Nelly would take us to San Francisco all the time. She’d drive to Pier 39 and we’d spend the day walking around, looking at the shops (my go-to’s were the sea shell shop for abalone rings and the chocolate store for chocolate licorice), going to Chinatown, and then ride the cable car to downtown San Francisco. Ah, memories.

Along with Rory, we also brought our respective besties in tow — it was kind of like a Hernandez-Ladies-Take-Their-Besties-Out day. We didn’t do anything extremely touristy like go to Alcatraz (a.k.a. The Rock), take a boat tour, or whatever else is there expect for maybe eat at Boudin. If you go to that area, please don’t eat there. The Boudin at the mall downtown is fine, but both of the ones located there are just ridiculous.

The last time I went to Pier 39 was about four years ago, but I don’t really recall much of it since I wasn’t there for that long. But bringing Rory this time around, I didn’t realize that people actually brought their pups with them there. Naturally, he had a good time tugging on his leash and yapping anytime another canine passed by or pigeon came too close. Haha! Some butcher (I think that’s what he was…?) put a big lobster in Rory’s face when we passed by a fish market, which would’ve been the perfect “Snapchat moment” as Shanice put it. Even though we had his stroller with us (hell yes, my dog has a stroller), we didn’t really get to bring him into any stores except for a couple of dog ones we came across; one of them being Yap USA which is basically like Nordstrom for dogs. I’ll write about them in a future post because we picked up some cool stuff for Rory there. 🙂

Anyhow, I took a lot of pictures, so I thought it’d be fun to share them with you all!

Shanice and I have been talking about going back because there are some things we’d like to visit, like the Madame Tussauds was museum (we found a Morgan Freeman wax statue at some random tourist info spot) and Ghirardelli Square. We were there for a hot minute and didn’t even get ice cream or chocolate! Granted, it was pretty nippy out, but still. 😛

Last month’s Level Up subscription theme was “Versus” and you know what? I felt like it was me versus effing iMovie because it did NOT want to let me edit my damn unpacking video! I got so angry, I had to walk away and color in some pages of my Star Wars coloring book. I managed to prevail in the end though! So iMovie can go suck it 😛

I was really excited about the Esiponage Cosmetics nails wraps that came with the Female Fashion Accessories sub. It has a blood splatter design that reminded me of Dexter. And they glow in the mother effin’ dark! That was a total surprise to me as my nails glowed while I watched Zootopia at the theater on Monday. It does say they’re glow-in-the-dark on the package, but I was too excited to put them on my nails to bother reading anything else on it. I put the nail wraps on about a week and a half ago and they’re still on! If you ever get any nail wraps from Espionage, I highly recommend putting a top coat over to help make it last longer.

Even though I’ve never seen Silence of the Lambs or watched Hannibal because scary movies and TV shows aren’t my thing, I really love the shirt and its design is pretty inconspicuous to the unknowing. Except when I wore it to work one day, my co-worker was like, “Oh my God, it’s the death moth!” and I’m like, “the what-what?” * shoulder shrug * And… I don’t watch The Walking Dead either (I tried! it was too stressful!), but I’m loving how simplistic the cherokee rose necklace is. When you open the pendant, there’s a mirror on the inside, and on the back it’s inscribed with a quote that says “This rose started to grow right where the mother’s tears fell.”  Even though I’m not part of the fandom, I am sooooo happy for all you Richonne shippers!!! ♥♥♥

My 30th birthday is in 2 days! AAAHHHH!!! Some people call it the “dirty 30.” Others call it the “flirty 30.” Since I am neither (well, maybe more dirty than flirty regarding my sense of humor), I am calling this birthday my “nerdy 30” because it makes so much more sense. And I’ll be at Disneyland to celebrate, because what better place to kick off 30th anniversary of life? 🙂

I threw a little birthday wish list together and as you can see, all I want are Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter things (mainly books)! I’m not expecting to get any of these things, but y’know… it’s just a wish list.

Nerdvember: Week Two

Hey my little ponies! I managed to do all 7 days for week 2 of Set to Stunning‘s Nerdvember Instagram challenge/contest 😀 This week I nearly had a Marvel themed outfit for each day.

Day 8: Princess Leia

You can totally tell when I’m too lazy to use a tripod/don’t have anyone to take my outfit pic. Haha! Anyway, it was pretty windy/rainy throughout most of the day and I had no plans to go out, but Jen and I ended up going to Hot Topic. So I threw on this pullover with a felt Princess Leia nesting doll I made last year with my black circle skirt and my pink motorcycle jacket (obviously not pictured).

Day 9: Tony Stark

This is probably my favorite outfit of week 2! I paired my Her Universe Tony Stark jacket with a brown floral skirt. And I put my little Funko Pop! Iron Man and Captain America keychains on my purse because I felt weird being all #TeamIronMan when I’m #TeamCaptainAmerica ALL. THE. DAMN. WAY. And this day was also Jen’s birthday, so we ditched the gym and went shoe shopping in Modesto after work instead. 😛

Day 10: Sherlocked

After years of searching for a bowler hat, I finally found one at the H&M in Modesto! And I was having a funky hair day Wednesday morning, so I paired the hat with my “Bored” Gold Bubble Clothing dress and my go-to Sherlock accessories.

Day 11: Captain America

It was Veteran’s Day, so I had to wear something Captain America themed. Wednesday was my stay-home-and-work-on-things-for-the-Geeky-Faire-day, so I just wore jeggings and this Cap pullover from JCPenney.

Day 12: Spider-Man

I really wanted to wear my Ryan Gosling shirt since his birthday is November 12, but it was too cold to wear what I would’ve wanted to pair with it, so I went with this Spidey pullover I found at Wet Seal last year.

Day 13: Loki

This was such a LONG day! I went to the airport in Sacramento to catch a 7 am flight to Long Beach, got picked up and dropped off to my AirBnb in Anaheim, dropped my bags off since check-in wasn’t until 3, and spent hella time at Disneyland by myself. I was hoping that Thor would be out taking pics in Tomorrowland which is why I wore my Loki dress by Her Universe, but both him and Cap are gone and Tomorrowland is basically Star Wars Land right now. Totally not complaining about that though. Thor is coming back on Monday as they re-open the Innoventions building in Tomorrowland, but Cap is being replaced by Spider-Man. Now that, I am TOTALLY complaining about. :: insert angry emoji face ::

Day 14: Cap & Peggy

I woke up in the wee hours of the morning to do the Captain America 10k (like I mentioned in a blog post earlier today), and later headed to Disneyland wearing my Her Universe Agent Carter shirt and the new Captain America necklace I made along with a Cap brooch Jen made. They’ll both be available at the Geeky Faire at Whimsic Alley next month!

Captain America 10k

Yesterday morning I did the Captain America 10k at Disneyland. I’m so proud of myself for finishing; I finished in 1 hour and 35 minutes according to the MapMyRun app! I didn’t even train properly (because I’m horrible), so the fact that I was able to finish in the amount of time that I did is a great feat for me. Last week I wanted to see how long it would take me to do 6 miles, but I only made it to 2 miles (in 30 min) because I over hydrated and had pee like somethin’ fierce, so I went back to my car as fast as I could. But since I managed to keep a pace of 15 min per mile, I figured I’d be okay. In grade school and high school I was always that person during P.E. that constantly tried to find a way out of doing any activities, and I especially hated doing the mile. I was always one of the very last to finish, and it was so embarrassing because while I was out there struggling, everyone else in my class was done and watching me go at a turtle’s pace. It would’ve helped if the teacher taught us to keep a steady pace and not go full throttle from the get go, y’know? Jogging and power walking is where it’s at.

But you know that one scene in The Avengers where Loki totally gets Hulk smashed? I currently feel that way because HOLY CRAP, my body is in so much pain! I woke up this morning like:

My back in particular hurts like hell, but I felt really good after the 10k yesterday! My adrenaline was up and I was so happy that I didn’t pass out in the middle of it. And then an hour later I got a headache from not being hydrated enough. That didn’t stop me from going to Disneyland later that day to celebrate though! And I got to hang out with Diana of Our City Lights, so yesterday was a good day. 🙂

If you follow Le Fancy Geek regularly, you know how obsessed I am with paring any garment that’s adorned with floral prints with something geeky. It’s my most favorite combination! Well, Fifth Sun has a wide array of cute geeky tanks and tees and a few of them combine flowers with some of my fave characters from Marvel Comics and Star Wars! I feel like they were made just for me!! The folks at Fifth Sun were gracious enough to send me one tank of my choice to review too. I seriously spent an hour and half browsing their web store before I decided to get this tank with Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, or as I like to call it “mew-mew.” I’m itching to get a Star Wars tank or tee in the near future though. I think I was just overwhelmed with their Star Wars selection because they have so many cute ones that it was impossible to settle on just one.

The only thing that I was slightly worried about was how the tank would fit me. I border between XL and XXL in tops (#bigboobproblems), and the largest size they carry in women’s is an XL. That being said, the tank isn’t too snug on me (their tops fit like junior’s sizes), but I tend to tuck my tees and tanks into my skirts and wear cardigans all the time anyway so I have no issues with the way it fits me. And how perfect does it look with my pink pleated skirt and mint cropped cardigan? Hella perfect! That’s how perfect! I wore this outfit to the first Bay Area Geek Girl Brunch meet-up last weekend (sans the crinoline) since it had a Marvel Comics theme. I think the addition of the crinoline underneath my skirt gave my ensemble a geeky retro pin up vibe too, which is a look I’ve been gravitating towards a lot lately.

Overall, I’m pretty much like: This tank. I like it. ANOTHER!
