Burdened With Dapper Purpose

dapper-day-disneyland-loki-marvel-disneybound-disneybounding

Fall Dapper Day at Disneyland is happening today and I am having a major case of fomo. I love going to Dapper Day because it’s so fun to see everyone decked out to the nines. I got to go to the Spring Dapper Day event back in April; my friends and I coordinated with Marvel themed Disneybound outfits. I was torn between putting together a Captain America outfit or a Loki one, but Loki’s got way more swag and I have more green, black, and gold in my closet than red, white, and blue. Spring Dapper Day took place a few days after my sister’s wedding, so Shanice helped me keep my victory rolls intact because I thought they’d go perfect with my pinup inspired Loki ensemble. My hair was so crunchy and flaky from all the hairspray I used, but that’s what happens when you’re burdened with dapper purpose 😛

Since Thor Ragnarok hit theaters I’ve got both of Odin’s boys on the brain, and I saw that guests can now meet both Thor AND Loki at California Adventure!! And BTW – how AMAZING was Thor Ragnarok?! Captain America will forever be my fictional husband, but Thor is legit the best Avenger, and I’m so happy with the direction this film went in. Taika Waititi for all the things, please!!

If you’re wondering, “If these are from April, why it she only posting about this outfit now?” Y’all… it’s been a busy year. I’ve got a back catalog of outfit pics and other things that have yet to be posted on here. I’m trying to catch up, I swear!

I’m Up All Night to Get Loki

lularoe nicole dress disneybound loki marvel marvel style le fancy geek geek fashion geek style

Who else celebrated Galentine’s Day last weekend?! I had so much fun celebrating it with three of my fave lady friends: Jen, Shanice, and Caitlin. It consisted of a bunch of waffles, a bit of Domhnall Gleeson (About Time was on the telly), milk tea with Boba, and Deadpool! Jen and I went to Grape City Con in Lodi first since my uncle gave me two tickets. I wasn’t really expecting much out of it, but it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I ended up leaving with a little portrait of Chewbacca and a Padme action figure that would totally make a perfect wedding cake topper if I pair it with my Darth Vader action figure. I mean… not that I’m planning on using it for that purpose, but who knows? It just might come in handy one day. 😛

While we were there, Jen got me a cute Loki inspired bow made out of perler beards (pictured below) and a Deadpool one for herself since they matched our outfits perfectly. The vendor who made them didn’t have a business card, nor was their business’ name anywhere in sight at their booth, so I have no idea who to give credit to and it’s driving me mad. Soooo, if you happened to be at Grape City Con and you know who made all the geeky perler bead hair accessories, let a girl know! Waffles, a bit ‘o Domhnall, Shanice, milk tea with boba, and Deadpool all happened after the con. The Deadpool movie was so much f*cking fun, you guys! I have a crude sense of humor, so I quite enjoyed it. Now I feel even more compelled to pick up some Deadpool comics!

Can I talk about this dress I wore for Galentine’s Day for a sec? Oh, duh. Of course I can. It’s my damn blog! It’s from LulaRoe, which is a company my sister has been über obsessed with. She has so many of their leggings, I don’t even know how many pairs she has, but she got me a pair for Galentine’s Day and they feel like buttah when I wear them. She introduced LuLaRoe to me a few months ago since one of her co-workers is a fashion consultant for them and thought I might like the dresses they have. And she was right! They don’t have an online shop on their website like most clothing companies do. Instead, people can contact them to become fashion consultants and through that, they are sent merch to sell via online pop up shops. My sister’s co-worker sells things through a private Facebook group. I believe that’s how most consultants sell stuff. So think Avon, but for clothes (I guess?). This particular dress was part of their holiday collection and I remember drooling over it because it’s perfect for a Loki inspired outfit! I bought it earlier this month when I saw that it was still available and planned to wear it for Galentine’s Day. I paired it with the Loki necklace I got at Anime Expo as a subtle nod, but when I saw Shanice she was like, “I love your dress, it’s very Slytherin!” After giving her a dirty look and saying it’s for Loki, she said it could also work for Legend of Zelda. I think it’d be good for an Emerald City inspired ensemble too.

If you watched Deadpool or can think of any other geeky thing I can base an outfit around for this green and gold dress, lemme know in the comments section!

Nerdy 30 Birthday Wish List

nerdy geeky birthday wish list star wars her universe funko harry potter

Star Wars leggings | Star Wars: Aftermath | The Force Awakens novelization
Admiral Ackbar pin | Dumbledore Funko Pop! figure | Hufflepuff HP book set
Spider-Gwen v.0 | Ms. Marvel v.4 | Silk v.0 | Her Universe Loki pullover

My 30th birthday is in 2 days! AAAHHHH!!! Some people call it the “dirty 30.” Others call it the “flirty 30.” Since I am neither (well, maybe more dirty than flirty regarding my sense of humor), I am calling this birthday my “nerdy 30” because it makes so much more sense. And I’ll be at Disneyland to celebrate, because what better place to kick off 30th anniversary of life? 🙂

I threw a little birthday wish list together and as you can see, all I want are Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter things (mainly books)! I’m not expecting to get any of these things, but y’know… it’s just a wish list.

Who else has a birthday in January that’s coming up or has passed? Lemme know what’s on your wish list or what you’ve gotten for your birthday in the comments section!

5 Fandom Friday: My Favorite Funko Pop! Figures

5 fandom 2

A friend of mine once asked how many Funko Pop! vinyl figures I own, and I had to stop and think about it for a good 2 minutes. I lost track of all the figures I own, but I know it’s well over 20! With so many choices, how am I supposed to narrow down my top 5 favorite for this week’s 5 Fandom Friday?! I tried my best to not list all my Disney ones to make the list more diverse, but alas. A good majority of my collection are Disney characters (because I’m the biggest Disnerd, duh!).

1. Baymax

My Baymax figure is the biggest figure I own! My friend Jen got him for me for Christmas (he was originally supposed to be my birthday present) and she was super anxious to give it to me because she knew I would most likely buy it for myself. And I nearly did buy him! I put him on hold at Barnes & Noble, and then she had to keep telling me NOT to buy him. It took me a minute to figure out why. Haha!

2. Snow White

Snow White is my favorite princess, and one of the first Disney Pops I ever purchased (my very first Pop! figure would be Batman). I went pretty crazy when they came out the first Disney series — I got Maleficent, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Sulley along with Snow White. But Snow’s the fairest Pop! of them all! I found a set with 3 mini Disney princess figures that had a lil’ Snow White, so now I have two. 😀

3. Mary Poppins

I fangirl’d sooo hard when I saw a preview of the Mary Poppins figure a few years ago. I mean, look at her! She’s practically perfect in every way. 😉 Whoever designed her just completely nailed every little detail from her hat to her umbrella. Perfection!

4. Robb Stark & Grey Wind

Okay, this is technically two, but I’m counting them as one because I feel that I can’t have one without the other. I got Robb at SDCC, and was on a mad hunt to find his dire wolf, Grey Wind. I didn’t know that Grey Wind was a 7-11 exclusive though (I could’ve sworn I saw him at Barnes & Noble when I still worked there), so he proved to be quite a challenge to acquire for a price below $50. I eventually found him at Stockton-Con, and he is the most priciest Pop! vinyl I own (I haggled and got him for $30). I DID IT FOR YOU, ROBB.

5. Loki

I’m sooo happy that Funko came out with another Loki figure with the pointy helmet! I wasn’t really crazy about the one sans helmet, and the first Loki figure they came out with is way too ‘spensive online, and his helmet wasn’t even gold. This one is just fantastic!

What are some of your favorite Pop! vinyls? Have you lost count of your collection like me? Lemme know in the comments!

cheers

5 Fandom Friday: My Favorite Fandom Accessories

5 fandom 2

Happy Friday, my little ponies! I’m super stoked about this week’s 5 Fandom Friday as it’s fashion related. Woo! To say it was pretty tough just trying to pick five of my favorite fandom related accessories is an understatement — I have sooo many baubles and doo-dads to choose from, so it was a ridiculous. #firstworldgeekproblems

I mean, I didn’t call my blog Le Fancy Geek for nothin’! Anyhow here are the ones I decided to feature for this post:

1. Admiral Ackbar statement necklace by Rockets & Rainbows

I don’t know why, but I just love Admiral Ackbar! Is it his name? The fact that he’s a huge piece of calamari? Or the fact that it’s so fun to say his infamous “IT’S A TRAP” line? Perhaps it’s all these things. But what I do know is that when I first saw this Admiral Ackbar necklace (made out of an old Mirco Machines toy) in Jennifer Landa‘s Etsy shop, Rockets & Rainbows, I knew I had to have it!

I also did an outfit post a couple years ago with it, you can check it out here.

2. Loki necklace by Trinket Slot

I made an immediate beeline when I spotted this Loki necklace from across the way at Trinket Slot‘s booth at Anime Expo last year! I love how it allows me to subtly show off my allegiance to Loki’s Army,  and also the fact the helmet has a heart in it.♡

If you’d like one for yourself, you can get it here.

3. Chewbacca ring

I am sooo in love with this ring! I remember seeing a post on Pinterest with a Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, and Vader ring too, but no indication as to where one could buy such epic finger trinkets. RUGH! But when I went to Portland last year, I visited a store (can’t remember what it’s called, sorry) and I saw the same exact rings!!! It took me awhile to figure out which one I should get, but ultimately decided Chewbacca was the best choice.  Plus I have a lot of Darkside swag anyway. Gotta keep balance in the Force, y’know?

4. Minnie Mouse ears

How could I not include an accessory from Disney a.k.a. my biggest fandom of all?! Mouse ears are so much fun, I wish it was acceptable to wear them everywhere besides Disney parks, conventions, Halloween, etc. Like, can’t I just come to work and be taken seriously while wearing them?

5. Hufflepuff infinity scarf

When my sister told me she was crocheting scarves for Christmas last year, I got all excited and said exclaimed, “I WANT A HUFFLE PUFF SCARF!!!” But she told me she already bought all the yarn she was going to use for everyone. Sigh. Come Christmas morning I found that she was already a step ahead of me. She even made a little one for Rory! I’m pretty sure if he put the Sorting Hat on, he’d be placed in Hufflepuff too. 🙂

What are your favorite fandom accessories? Lemme know in the comments!

Hold Up…

20131202-073151.jpgI’m quite annoyed with myself for not reaching my goal of opening up shop during the holiday weekend. Le Fancy Geek Boutique may not be ready for Cyber Monday, however I WILL be opening up shop this Wednesday, the 4th of December NO MATTER WHAT. Mind you, it’ll be a soft opening featuring necklaces I’ve been able to photograph (I was not expecting the glass domes on the bezels to be ridiculously difficult to photograph — if anyone has tips, feel free to share!).

Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm about my new pieces and for your patience. And as a treat, there will be a coupon code to save $5 on your first order! More details to come.

Once again, thank you all soooo much for being patient with me!

Cheers,

Burdened With Glorious Purpose

outfit details – dress: Annabelle // belt: Xhileration // shoes: Cityclassified // glasses: Derek Cardigan // tote: Gama-Go // Lego Loki necklace: made by me

Hello again, my little ponies!

So I put together this Loki-inspired outfit for day two of mine and Tim’s SoCal getaway. This would’ve been perfect to wear to Disneyland if they had opened up their “Treasures of Asgard” experience while we were there. I could’ve taken a picture with Thor and then demanded that he kneel before me. How could he refuse? I mean, look at how fierce my shoes are! Actually, those shoes would’ve totally been the death of my feet if I wore them to the park. Eek!

Anyhow, our day mostly consisted of shopping at Company D, which is basically like Costco for Disney employees and heaven and hell on earth for me (so amazing, yet so dangerous for my wallet with all the Disneyland merchandise for half off!), and Downtown Disney, and driving to San Diego (boo, traffic). Since I knew we wouldn’t be on our feet the whole day, I opted to wear shoes that aren’t too comfortable for long durations of time, but damn cute! I found them at TJ Maxx a month ago and was naturally drawn to them because they reminded me of the god of mischief. And my green dress with the slanted blocked stripes was found at Ross. Yes, that reminded me of Loki too. With both items I remember seeing them in the store and leaving empty handed, and completely regretting my decision to not buy them. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Luckily, I ended up with both of them!

I made the Lego Loki necklace for myself the day before we left out of a keychain I got from a Lego store last year. It’s not the most functional thing I’ve ever made — he tends to like flipping with his backside out since the horns on his helmet protrude quite a bit. Oh well. I still think it’s quite charming.

My Gama-Go tote was purchased at Comic-Con a few years ago. Isn’t it neat? It’s supposed to look like an x-ray of what bags look like when they’re put through the conveyer belts at airports. I wouldn’t ever bring this on a flight though — something tells me TSA wouldn’t appreciate it. x__x

And look at who I found at the Lego Store in Downtown Disney! HULK GO SMASH. He wasn’t too happy with my ensemble’s inspiration. Sorry I’m not sorry, Hulky!

Cheers,
Nina

Blogger Night at Old Navy

A few weeks ago I was invited to be part of Blogger Night at Old Navy’s Dublin, CA location where myself and a couple of other bloggers (Courtney of The Curious Commuter and Jesica of Ryzenberg On) were on hand to give style tips to customers and help them pick out outfits. We even got to style our own mannequins which was ridiculous amounts of fun (kind of stressful at first — I’ll digress in a bit)!

I arrived at the store a couple hours before the event to roam around and pick pieces for my mannequin and for my friend Caitlin. I found myself engulfed with anxiety because I was unsure of which direction to go — there were some vintage style Disney tees and I thought, “Do I rep my Disney Dorkness or go with something else?” I picked a Mickey Mouse shirt for Caitlin to try on and held onto it until I eventually found a skirt and cardigan for her to wear with it [pictured below], and ended up basing my mannequin’s outfit around this sweet olive military jacket that reminded me of Clara Oswald from Doctor Who. I was thrilled with the way my mannequin turned out and that I managed to get a geeky element on it. YAY!

My friend Amanda came over too and the three of us kept fangirling about Tom Hiddleston, so I decided I wanted to put Caitlin in a Loki inspired ensemble! At first I was walking around holding a kelly green shirt, but nixed it so I could use the military jacket again — totes appropriate since his fandom is referred to as “Loki’s Army.” I had fun (too much, me thinks) with accessories too. I found a gold necklace with a pointy pendent that was reminiscent to the horns on his helmet. I had layered on another necklace with some feathers — we reasoned that his brother has feathers on his helmet so it still made sense with the Loki theme. 🙂

And lastly, all the bloggers got to style Vivian (the lovely manager that invited me). I kept eyeballing these black and white printed shorts that I would totally wear if I felt comfortable rocking shorts, so I had Vivian put those on with a black cardi, aqua tank, and pastel accessories. I was happy to hear she ended up buying the shorts and top at the end of the day!

I had soooo much fun throwing these outfits together and meeting Courtney and Jesica. Hopefully I’ll be able to come back for the next Blogger Night and I hope to see some of you there too!

Wishful Wednesdays #3: Livin’ La Vida Loki

Loki hearts necklace // green satchel // Loki dress
Bifrosted Loki Charms t-shirt // Funko Pop! vinyl figure

Tom Hiddleston is what we fangirls like to call a “life ruiner.” As many of you know, he’s known for his portrayal of Loki, the god of mischief and Thor’s [adopted] baby bro in Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers. Hiddleston raises expectations of potential future mates sky high by being uber charming, extremely funny (have you seen the Loki’d video? Or him doing impressions of other people and a raptor?!), kind to his fans, and not to mention that he’s really, really, really, ridiculously good looking. I’m so glad I have Tim, otherwise I’d be a hot mess of a single lady since I’d probably have even higher expectations of a future-boyfriend because of Tom Hiddleston. That perfect bastard.

Ever since Comic-Con he jumped from #5 to #1 on my list of Top 5 celebrity crushes (sorry, John Krasinski)! I mean, how many ovaries exploded when this happened?:

So today’s Wishful Wednesdays post is ALL THINGS LOKI!!!

I did a little Loki search on Etsy and found so many awesome things! A couple of my favorite finds that I’ve been drooling over for the past week are the heart shaped Loki helmet necklace by FanFlail and dress by Couple Parel. I love the design of the pendant — I think it’s clever, elegant, and the perfect thing to wear to rep one’s love for Loki and show allegiance to his army.  And the dress. DAT DRESS. I keep creating different outfits for it in my head, I’m OBSESSED. And it’s only $16.99 (+ $8 for shipping)! Totally a decent a price!

The green satchel with gold accents is from Asos, and the only item on my list that’s not directly Loki-related. But in terms of color, he’s definitely represented. And how cute would it look with that dress? HELLA CUTE. That’s how cute. The scalloped details along the border of the satchel is adorable too ❤

I’ve been in love with Bamboota‘s Bifrosted Loki Charms shirt since I saw it on TeeFury ages ago. I’m lame and totally missed my chance on buying it because I kept asking myself all day if I wanted to or not, and by the time I figured out that I did, the next day’s shirt was already put up. RUGH! But it’s available on Level Up Studios now, so huzzah! Like FanFlail’s necklace, the design on this shirt is super clever. From the marshmallow shapes to the tagline (“Mischievously Delicious!”) to the free prize inside (Loki’s sceptre), it makes me wish I could find a box of Loki Charms at my grocery store.

And lastly, the little Loki figure by Funko. I adore their line of Pop! figures, I have quite a few Disney ones, and this Loki one is soooo amazing! But they retired the design, so if I want to take this guy home I’d have to give up a little over a hundred dollars. *cries* I’m hoping that they’ll come out with another one since Thor: The Dark World is hitting theaters this fall.

Are you part of Loki’s Army? Do you think Tom Hiddleston is a life ruiner? Let’s fangirl together in the comments section!

Cheers,
Nina
