The Future is Bright: A Loot Wear Review

Hey my little ponies! I received the latest subscriptions from Loot Wear (formerly known as Level Up) a few days ago and did a little unpacking video for it. Check it out to see what’s inside along with my honest reaction of the items 🙂

Here’s a list of what came with each subscription:

Socks:
– Mega Man
– Rick & Morty

Wearable:
– Futurama hooded t-shirt

T-shirt:
– Voltron

Loot for Her:
– Bioshock tank top

I created a couple outfits from the fun threads that came with this package, including the Futurama hooded tee and the Bioshock tank top! I would’ve done a third outfit for the Voltron t-shirt, but it’s not the right size 😥

Outfit #1: “All in all, it’s a fine day for an apocalypse.”

With the current state of the US and the fact that I actually wore leggings as pants in public (LE GASP), the end of the world must be nigh! Leggings as pants has always been one of those fashion faux pas that make me cringe if it’s not done nicely. Like, if you’re gonna do it I feel like you should wear a top that covers your bum and crotch because no one wants to see the outline of your nether regions. Am I right? You know I am! The Futurama hoodie tee has a tunic-like feel to it, so my bum was nice and covered! I would’ve tucked it into a cute skater skirt, but I didn’t see one in my closet that I thought would look good with it. And I couldn’t find my black jeggings (hey, they look like denim!), so I had to resort to regular ‘ol leggings. I threw on my denim vest and sparkly bracelets so I wouldn’t be covered in all black. And you can’t really tell, but I purposely wore my dark purple flats with this outfit as a subtle nod to Leela’s hair. 🙂

Admittedly, this is one of my least polished outfits, but I threw it together when my two besties invited me out for pizza right when I changed into my pajamas and didn’t feel like going out at all. I nearly turned down free pizza, you guys. Who does that?! #EndOfTheWorldIsNigh

Outfit #2: Not Cthulhu

If you watched my unpacking video for this month’s subscriptions, you would’ve seen that I had no idea what fandom this tank’s design belonged to. The robot looked a little familiar, but I was totally lost. For a hot second I thought it looked kinda like Cthulhu. But alas, it’s from Bioshock Infinite! The only things I know about Bioshock Infinite is that it’s a video game that has a steampunk feel, a pretty lady character that tons of women cosplay at cons, a birdcage, and robots. I’ve seen pictures from the game and I think it looks really cool, but I am too uncoordinated and anxious to play first shooter games. I’ll just stick with Duck Hunt, thank you very much.

I really like the tank top though —  it has nice a graphic on it! I paired it with a brass feather necklace to make a reference to the birdcage. I used to frown upon wearing things from fandoms I’m not into, but Loot Wear makes it hard to stick to my guns when they come out with cute stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with my geek interests. 😛

Overall thoughts on July’s subscription items? Pretty good despite the fact that Futurama is the only thing that I’m actually a fan of, and the Voltron shirt not being the right size. 😦

Next month’s theme is “Anti-Heroes” and I’m pretty excited for it because the Loot for Her subscription is going to have something Harley Quinn related! I’m hoping for some sort of tote bag or jewelry piece. The sock subscription will have the Punisher and Suicide Squad, the t-shirt will be World of Warcraft (I played WoW for three months and all I did was pick herbs and make outfits), and the wearable item will be from Archer… another show I keep putting on hold!

If you’re interested in subscribing you can save 10% by using the code “LEFANCYGEEK”! Click here to level up your style. 🙂

Walkin’ in a Wampa Wonderland

I think it’s so cute whenever families put out personalized holiday greeting cards with a nice family photo on them during this time of the year. My family’s never really put them out — not that we never wanted to, I think we’re just lazy. Mother, if you’re reading this, sorry I’m not sorry! You know it’s true. 😛

Even though I’m a perpetually single dog mother, I don’t see why my relationship status should hinder me from putting out one of my own. So this year, after wanting to ever since Rory came into my life 4 years ago, I FINALLY made a holiday greeting card to send out to friends and family with just me and Rory!

But, as you know, I’m a fancy geek, so I couldn’t just make it a “traditional” card with the Christmas tree and usual red & green color scheme. Nuh-uh, honey. As soon as I realized Rory’s not an albino ewok, but a mini wampa, I immediately searched for doggy wampa costumes and once I found one, I knew that the theme of my very first single-dog-mama holiday card would be “Happy HOTHiday!” Next year we’re probably gonna roll with “Merry Sithmas,” since we have matching Vader sweaters, but who knows? I might want to go with another fandom theme next year. But “Merry Sithmas” is obviously in the lead.

I’m going to be sending out my cards tomorrow, and I don’t want to share what they look like quite yet, but I’m really excited about them! So I thought I’d share a couple of pictures from the informal photo shoot my mom did for me and Rory. 🙂

Jingles All the Way

Hey my little ponies! I’m back with a bit more of my trip to Disneyland.

A trip to Disney isn’t complete without seeing my favorite equine, Jingles. And I finally got to take a side-by-side picture with my tattoo of her (pictured below)! I had it done last year by Jen Lee at Tattoo City in San Francisco. She did such a great job capturing all the details, didn’t she?

I remember when Disneyland celebrated its 50th anniversary, Jingles was gold from head to hoof! Many of the rides had at least one gold vessel, so I was a little surprised to see that Disney didn’t encrust diamonds on any of the rides in similar fashion to what they did for their 50th. Oh well! Sleeping Beauty Castle itself provides enough sparkle as is, so I guess it’s okay that none of the other attractions throughout the park got a fancy updo. 😀

For the 24 hour event, I knew that comfort would obviously be key. I wasn’t sure how long we’d last for the event beforehand, but I knew I would be freezing while we waited in line to get into the park. Unfortunately for me, freezing meant that pants would be the practical choice over my usual dress or skirt. You all know how I feel about pants… I HATE ‘EM! When I went to school in San Francisco I constantly wore dresses even though it was always super chilly, but the cold never bothered me anyway (ha!) so I didn’t really care. But I knew I was going to be sleeping on the ground outside. A dress/skirt would’ve been all kinds of impractical!

It feels slightly really silly how stressed out I got over figuring out what to wear. My sister said, “I don’t care what I look like, I’m just trying to be comfortable.” And I’m thinking, “But I’m a fashion blogger, I feel like I need to look cute AND be comfortable!” UGH. So I settled on a floral skirt (because I thought it’d be hot in the afternoon but I was wrong), denim vest, a light knit pullover, and the comfiest sneakers in all the land. Seriously, these black Vans I got a few days before I left for Anaheim are probably the comfiest shoes I’ve ever worn to the park. Sure, my feet ached for a bit, but I never had to do what I call my horse-foot-stomp t0 make my feet feel better. And most importantly: NO BLISTERS! Bless you, Vans. BLESS. YOU.

I’ll be back soon with more Disney! And next time it’ll be all about food. SPOILER ALERT: An Iron Man waffle will be involved. 😀

cheers
