You’ve Got Me in Stitches

I can’t believe how quickly my Hawaiian holiday passed by. And now it’s Monday, which means it’s back to reality. All together now: BLUUUUUGGHHH.

Despite the mosquitos and the endless tummy aches from all the sweets I ate, I really didn’t want my vacation to end. Staying at Disney’s Aulani resort was probably the most luxe experience I’ve had to date! I’ll talk more about that later though. Last Monday, a bunch of my family members got to go to Aulani’s character breakfast at Makahiki! It’s similar to Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel which I went to back in January. We got to take pictures with Mickey, and Goofy and Minnie walked around the restaurant to take pictures with diners. I was hoping Stitch would be there since my sister Disneybounded as Lilo’s doll Scrump and I wore my Stitch ears and Hawaiian Stitch dress that I got at Hot Topic earlier this year specifically for this trip! We did run into him at the wooden Stitch statue though and he was so surprised to see my Stitch ears and started playing with them. But we didn’t get to take pictures with him because a cast member was escorting him to go somewhere else.

heavy sigh

Uuuuggghh… I wanna go back! It’s seriously so fantastic and magical over there. And the food at the breakfast… oh my gaaaawwwwd. I love Disneyland food, so naturally the food at the breakfast buffet was all kinds of deloycious! They had Stitch waffles, pulled pork, miso soup, tons of pastries with tropical fruits… I seriously considered smuggling some guava pastries into my purse because they were that good.

I’ll be sharing more of my adventures from my Hawaiian Holiday, so stay tuned!

Under da Sea

The title of this blog post is somewhat misleading because I am completely the opposite of being under the sea. Right now, I’m up in the air on my way to Hawaii! Or maybe I’ve already landed. I don’t know. Hawaii is 3 hours ahead of my usual time, and I suck at even the most basic of math problems so trying to figure out where exactly I am at this very moment is giving me a headache. Anyhow, I’m really excited since I haven’t been to Hawaii since I was 15. My cousin is getting married this weekend on Oahu, but I’ll be staying there for a whole week. Weeee!!!

Tropical locations aren’t completely my thing (yes, I know I’m weird), but we’re staying at Aulani! Disney magic all day, every day!!! Y’know what I’m sayin’? I am going to be eating ALL THE DOLE WHIP.

Since today is Thursday, I decided to post a little throwback outfit to something I wore to Disney’s California Adventure last month. My dress has silhouettes of Ariel all over it and I just added my crinoline to give it some extra oomph. Now that I think about it, it probably would’ve been better if I wore a lavender cardigan and my orange-y/yellow flower clip to emulate Ariel’s color palette more. But oh well! I like the way this ensemble turned out, and I think it’s pretty clear that it’s an Ariel Disneybound outfit, right?

I also packed this outfit for Hawaii sans the crinoline —  I heard that it’s kinda rainy and hot (uuggghh) so I think I would be insanely uncomfortable if I walked around wearing it. Don’t be surprised if you see it on the blog again!

I’m bringing my laptop with me since I still have to work on things for Wear Your Voice Mag, but I’m not sure if I’ll be updating the blog throughout the week. I’mma be on vacation afterall! You can count on me to upload tons of pictures on Instagram though. If you don’t follow me on there yet, you can find me via @lefancygeek. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Single Riders Line

I was able to go to my home away from home last weekend before my Annual Pass expires next Friday. I had no plans to renew it, but now with all the Star Wars stuff that’s going to be happening at the park, like Season of the Force, I’m definitely reconsidering. I wish I knew how to quit you, Disneyland!

Anyhow, my sister and I got to go on Saturday and for a few hours on Sunday together, but she left after our cousin’s wedding shower so I ended up going to Disneyland solo on Sunday night. I figured I might as well take advantage of the fact that I still had access to both parks (and discounts!).

I realize that walking around Disneyland by yourself sounds a bit depressing. I did it once before when I went with my former boyfriend and his then girlfriend and her little brother — I know that seems weird, but they invited me and who says no to Disneyland? I was the only one that had a Magic Morning pass that allowed me to go to the park an hour early, so I ditched them… actually, I ditched them a few times and walked around by myself. While alone, I went on Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and the Winnie the Pooh ride where the cast member actually let me and the grandpa/grandson duo I shared a beehive shaped vehicle with go on the ride twice in a row! I was fine alone for those few hours because I at least knew I would be hanging out with my friends again later on in the day.

Disneyland is one of those places where you go with family or friends to have fun and create special memories with them. But you know what? I was fine on my own last Sunday knowing that I wouldn’t be accompanied later on. There were a few moments where I’d see a couple walk past me holding hands and I felt a bit sad since I didn’t have anyone to keep me company. And HOLY CRAP, I was literally surrounded by couples hugging each other in the stretching room at the Haunted Mansion. I’m not even exaggerating. And while I was walking around the park, which was oddly humid for a Sunday night, I started thinking, “Why are you all holding hands? Why are you standing so close to each other? IT IS SUPER MUGGY RIGHT NOW. Do you not feel it? Are you not affected?! UGH.” So I might be a bit of a hypocrite, because I once was one of those people you’d see with their boyfriend looking disgustingly sweet. And yeah, sometimes we held hands when it was unbearably hot outside. But I digress…

Just walking around by myself, I started thinking about how great it is to be single. I can be selfish and focus on my wants and needs without having to consider someone else’s (does that sound harsh?). No sharing food (actually, that comes in handy when I’m not that hungry). No compromises. No feeling judged for wanting to buy certain items (like a My Little Pony dress (former boyfriend wasn’t crazy about it) or a Duffy Bear purse… which I totally bought and rocked at the park on Sunday morning), and no feeling bad for talking about how I want certain material possessions.

Yeah, I like material things! I love fashion. I love clothes and accessories and cute geeky toys and books. I’m a fashion blogger and a geek.  I am living in a material world and baby, I am a material girl. DEAL WITH IT.

Whooaaa… okay, got a little carried away and self-righteous there for a minute, but you know what I mean, right? Being single just makes me feel more free. Not that I ever felt constricted in my last relationship, but I’m finding that I can do things that I truly want to do, and I have more time to devote to myself which is very important. Before my last ex, I only ever had one boyfriend and we didn’t last very long. So after that, I spent a good amount of time pining for love. I just wanted to be wanted and also be able to reciprocate those feelings. I never appreciated singledom until now. So although I did truly love my ex more than anything, I’m finally starting to honestly feel good about life as a single lady and learning how to enjoy my own company.

Okay, enough of the sentimental stuff.

In case you’re wondering, “What does one do while they’re on their lonesome at the Happiest Place on Earth?” Well,  I got to hit the Little Mermaid and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at California Adventure, and when I got to Disneyland the parade was just ending and they were getting ready for fireworks so I just headed to the Disney Gallery to look at some art and watched Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, walked to Fantasyland only to find that every ride was closed, and then went on the Haunted Mansion and ended the night with the Jungle Cruise. I wanted my farewell ride to be on King Arthur’s Carrousel, but at that point it was already 11pm and I just wanted to go back to the hotel and eat. So that was my fun solo date at Disneyland.

Do you like taking yourself on solo dates? Where do you take yourself when you go out on the town on your own? Let me know in the comments!

When the Clock Strikes 12

I never thought I’d ever need a petticoat (or crinoline), but since I’ve been more inspired by vintage/pinup girl fashion thanks to Pinup Girl Clothing I’ve found that petticoats are essential for making the circle skirts that I own look nice ‘n pouffy. After I scored one by Tatyana on Zulily, I’ve also found that they make me feel like an effing Disney princess! If I can’t be an actual Disney princess, I’d like to at least look or feel like one… this is what most women in their late 20s want, right?

Speaking of Disney princesses, have any of you seen the new Cinderella movie starring Lady Rose Lily James yet?! I watched it last Friday and I am OBSESSED. It’s sooo magical! The movie made me feel like a little girl full of hopes and dreams while watching it. 🙂 I thought it was a great adaptation of the animated version, and I’m really pleased with all the changes that were made, such as Cinderella meeting the prince (played by a beardless Robb Stark Richard Madden) before the ball. The story and the characters just felt a lot fuller to me than the animated version. Then again, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, so I could be wrong. Oh, Cate Blanchett was fabulous as Lady Tremaine! I hated her and admired her all at once. I don’t know how to explain that, but I’m sure if you see the movie you’ll understand.

I don’t really have anything in closet to do an actual Cinderella Disneybound, but I knew I wanted to put together something Cinderella-ish. The skirt with the clocks is something I got on ModCloth ages ago. It seemed more Doctor Who-ish to me at first, but when I happened upon it while trying to find pieces for a Cinderella outfit I thought it tied in with the clock at the ball.  And I don’t own any flats that resemble glass slippers, but my vintage lucite clutch seemed like a good alternative. 🙂

 cheers

Yoo-Hoo, Minnie!

My love for Disney only intensifies as I get older and I always try to find ways to sneak elements of it into my everyday life, whether it be through household items (my Disney mug collection is getting out of control), beddings (stuffed animals count as pillows, right?), clothes, or accessories. What can I say? I’m a Disnerd for life!

LeSportsac released another line of Minnie Mouse bags and accessories last fall called “Minnie’s Floral Park.” I’m absolutely bonkers for anything with a floral print, so I’m utterly head over heels for this specific collection! LeSportsac makes their purses out of heavy duty, lightweight nylon, which is perfect because who likes throwing a bulky purse over their shoulder that’s already heavy without putting anything in it beforehand? Not this girl. This is why I love using LeSportsac bags for everyday use, and they’re particularly great for a long day at Disneyland!

I put together a Minnie Mouse “Disneybound” with the LeSportsac Minnie bag and my navy blue and beige polkadot dress, hot pink belt, and hot pink Blowfish flats. Usually when I see people Disneybound any character, I notice that they’re faithful to the original color palette that’s associated with the designated character whose style they’re trying to convey. I try to do the same, but other times I like to breakout and just draw inspiration with little details. For example, my friend Brianna made this cute little daisy ring for me (pictured below) and I thought it fit the vibe of my Minnie inspired outfit since she was originally drawn with a hat that had a daisy on top of it. I’m super anal-retentive when it comes to details. Some of you may have noticed from past outfit posts. Hehe. 🙂

Are you a Disnerd for life too? Do you Disneybound? Let’s geek out about it in the comments section!

cheers

Sweater Puppies

A few years ago, I came across this Lady & the Tramp pullover from H&M while browsing #ladyandthetramp on Instagram. There were soooo many selfies of ladies wearing it and exclaiming how much they loved it, and I was stabbed multiple times with sharp pangs of jealousy.

I HAD TO HAVE IT.

Lady & the Tramp has always been one of my favorite Disney movies, and my obsession with novelty pullovers was (and still is) very strong. I dropped many unsubtle hints to my boyfriend at the time that I wanted it for Christmas. He was unable to find it, so I called thirteen (yes, thirteen) different H&M locations that were within forty-five minutes to an hour and a half away from me, but had no luck! I talked a little bit about how horribly I wanted it on this blog post from a couple years back. The desperation was no joke.

I figured all hope was lost and it would never be mine, so I just gave up on it. I mean, it’s just a pullover, right? Or “jumper,” if you live somewhere that has better slang than America. Later that year I randomly decided to look it up on eBay and there it was! And in my size!!! It was almost fate —  the only problem was that the seller was based in the UK and her listing for it said “No international orders.” I messaged her anyway, telling her my sob story about how I’ve searched high and low for it and if she would please let me bid on it. Obviously, she was an angel because here I am wearing it in these outfit photos. 😀

As much as I love it, I can’t help but feel slightly weird about how mighty my need for it was. I stalked the auction for it like someone stalks the Facebook profile (or Tumblr or Instagram) of someone they have a crush on. When it finally got down to the last few minutes of the auction, my body was literally shaking. Shaking. Who the fresh hell shakes with anticipation over a damn piece of clothing? Apparently, I do. But… LOOK AT HOW PERFECT IT IS!

Have any of you ever gone completely insane for a materialistic item, or stalked an eBay auction like a lion hunts its prey? Lemme know in the comments!

cheers
