Mischeif Managed

Watching a movie at 3:30 am in a city an hour and a half away might actually not be the greatest idea ever. I know I did it last year, but I lived a half hour away at the time and managed to slip in a good 5 hour nap before going (I could NOT fall asleep before we left around midnight!), so that made sense. Yesterday, when I got home after we ate breakfast (around 7:30 am), I knocked out for the rest of the day. I even fell asleep wearing my costume thinking I would take pictures for this blog when I woke up (since the ones I took at the theater came out blurry), but I was completely groggy and zombie-like. Rugh. But it was all for Harry Potter! I wouldn’t do that for just any movie, so it was worth it. 🙂

Anyway, to our surprise there were TONS of people at the Metreon for the 3:30 am showing. In fact, it sold out! We moved like cattle as we tried to form a queue to get into the theater. This is what we were hoping to avoid. And I spent $4.50 on a greasy, doughy pretzel. WTF? Movie theater pretzels are usually yummy!

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I knew I was going to cry buckets since I knew certain things were going to happen with several characters (*CRIES A TRILLION TEARS*), but I forgot to bring tissues with me! Alan Rickman’s performance as Severus Snape made my heart hurt. I could not stop bawling. That man deserves an Oscar nomination. SO AMAZING! And Maggie Smith unleashed Professor McGonagall’s bad-assery-ness.

I even got misty eyed during some parts that weren’t even sad. I was just thinking, “This is it. After this, it’s all over.” I’ve read some things on Tumblr with people complaining about us Potterheads and our whining about how it’s the last movie. Star Wars fans (that apparently don’t like Harry Potter) are like, “When it [Star Wars] came to an end, I was okay. I accepted it. I didn’t cry about it.” And I’m sitting here thinking, “IT’S NOT THE SAME!!!” Star Wars had 6 films, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars is out on Cartoon Network (I think?), and there’s all these books that have been written and are still getting released; something new is always happening with Star Wars. Harry Potter fans don’t have that. I mean, we’re getting Pottermore later, but that’s it as far as we know.  So give us some slack and let us mourn the end of a glorious era! Jerks.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I shall continue listening to the Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows audiobook as I clean my room.

Jen and I went to Japantown yesterday! I actually declined the invite at first because there were some things that I needed to do around the house. But then I had an emo moment and thought, “Damn, I should’ve just gone!” And then Jen called me again and asked if I was sure that I didn’t want to go, so I said, “Let me fix my hair.”And to let my parents know. Even though I’m well in my 20s, mid-20s even,  I still have to let my parents know where I go. That’s the price you pay when you live rent-free with your family.

I damn near forgot just how cold it is in San Francisco during the summer. I remember when I lived in Daly City, I thought the constant fogginess was amazing as I hate hot weather. But towards the end of my time in the bay area, I got a bad case of seasonal depression from lack of sunshine.

Once we got there, we were greeted with misty air which was a nice change from the central valley heat. I don’t think I can deal with that kind of weather everyday ever again though.

Anyway, I grabbed a couple of silk headbands with bows at Daiso for just $1.50 each. I haven’t taken pictures of them yet, but you’ll most likely see me wearing one of them in a post in the near future. I like to think of Daiso as a Japanese Target: they have EVERYTHING — fashion accessories, stationary, housewares, cosmetics, craft goods, snacks, etc.

I also found a cupcake place inside the Kintetsu mall called Cako Bakery. The cupcakes were really pricey ($3.50 each!), but I saw that they had a Strawberry Cheesecake one and I couldn’t resist.

I even found some Doctor Who toys inside a toy store I always frequent whenever I go to J-Town (the name of it escapes me though)! The first thing I saw was this 12 inch Clockwork Man figure, from the episode “The Girl in the Fireplace” which is one of my favorite episodes. They toys were freakishly pricey though — the Sonic Screwdriver I got on Amazon for $20 was being sold for $30, and the 11th Doctor’s screwdriver was being sold for $40. I found that Amazon not too long ago for $14.99. Even though I got really excited for spotting Who merchandise, I figured I’d wait till I go to Comic Con next week to go ape shit.

All in all, it was a good day. I’ll leave you with my “seasonal depression” face. Haha!

“Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.”

Yesterday I hung out with my good pal Tim and was later joined by his lady Alise. Tim and I had been talking about how we hadn’t watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World since January and kept talking about having a nerd-out day to watch it together, but we’ve both been B I Z Z A Y. I have such a nerd boner for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World — I watched it 3 times in the theater last year, and I bought the DVD the morning it came out. In fact, I walked to Target to buy it before I had class (I used to live within walking distance of a mall). He suggested making it a double feature with The RoomEntertainment Weekly hailed it as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies.” It’s so bad, it’s AWESOME. We ended up watching it twice. Ugh… so hilarious. It’s supposed to be a drama, but the acting is so horrible, the script is weak, and there’s tons of plot holes, BUT IT’S SO AMAZING.

Take a looksie:

Tommy Wisseau, who wrote, directed, and starred in it, said that it’s a black comedy, but you can totally tell it’s trying so hard to be a drama. It was also filmed with both a 35 mm camera and an HD one because he didn’t know the difference… /facepalm.

The Room also has some pretty fantastic dialog. Here are some of my favorite lines:

    • “Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.” – Mark
    • “I feel like I’m sitting on an atomic bomb waiting for it to go off.” – Steven
    • “If you think I’m tired today, wait till you see me tomorrow.” – Claudette
    • Mark: How was work today?
Johnny: Oh pretty good. We got a new client… at the bank. We make a lot of money.
      Mark: What client?
Johnny: I can not tell you, it’s confidential.
Mark: Oh come on. Why not?
Johnny: No I can’t. Anyway, how is your sex life?
    • “As far as I’m concerned, you can drop off the Earth. That’s a promise.” – Mark

Also, watch this super hilarious clip:

I highly recommend watching The Room! And also Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. <– greatest movie EVER. Okay maybe not ever, but close.
