Hey, Puddin’: A Loot Wear Review

Hey everyone! Bit late with this, but I received last month’s Anti-Hero themed Loot Wear subscriptions a couple weeks ago. I came up with two looks for the t-shirt and wearble items and based it around one skirt, but before we get into that, I’m gonna talk a bit about the ins and outs of Loot Wear in case you’re new to it or my blog.

Loot Wear is a monthly subscription service that offers geeky mystery apparel. Every month comes with a specific theme and they announce what franchises will be included for each subscription, so it’s not a complete shot in the dark as to what you’ll receive. Looters (as subscribers are called) can choose to get a subscription for socks, a wearable (loungewear, raglan tees, hoodies, etc), t-shirt, or something geared towards the ladies (Loot For Her which includes 1-2 items, either an accessory or wearable), or get a socks/wearable combo or t-shirt/Loot For Her combo.

Here’s what came with the August subscriptions:

  • Wearable: Archer raglan tee
  • Socks: Suicide Squad and The Punisher
  • T-shirt: World of Warcraft Sylvannas t-shirt
  • Loot for Her: Harley Quinn skirt

T-shirt:

Story time! I played World of Warcraft for a good three months about eight years ago during winter break. It was so bad. I’m talking stay-in-my-room-for-eight-hours-straight-but-go-downstairs-at-night-to-let-my-family-know-I’m-still-alive bad. And all I did was go on mini quests and collect herbs and cloth so I could make potions and new outfits for my human mage named Cydonia — after Muse’s “Knights of Cydonia.” I was also on the PVE server (player vs environment) because being the anti-social gamer noob that I am, I thought it meant less interaction with other people. Nope. I learned that people can still contact you on PVE servers. – sigh – I have an addictive personality, so even though all I did was run around Azeroth and ignored all the people who tried inviting me to go on quests with them or join their guild, I was utterly engrossed and obsessed with gaining XP points.

So, when I saw the Sylvannas Windrunner t-shirt all I thought was, “Oh, hey. It’s a night elf!” I had zero clue that she was an actual character from the game. I only found out when I looked it up. Also, sylvannas/silvanas is a tasty Filipino dessert that’s somewhat similar to macarons. Did you know that? I wonder if the creator of Sylvannas named her after that…? If you can, you should track one down and devour it, so long as you don’t have a nut allergy. Anyhow, I decided to pair the tee with my navy polka dot skirt to breakup the serious looking nature of the design and make it kind of fun. And who doesn’t love a Peter Pan collar or bowler hat?

Socks & Loot For Her:

I was really excited for the Harley Quinn Loot For Her item since I’ve been a fan of hers ever since she made her debut in Batman: The Animated Series. I thought maybe it’d be a piece of jewelry or a tote bag, but it was a skirt. Now, don’t get me wrong. I think the skirt is super cute and when I tried it on it fit fine, but the length is… uh… well… really short. And I do like a short skirt; my family knows this all too well because they seem to comment on my hemline all the damn time. But it’s too short for my own personal taste. I’m a grown woman, guys. I can’t go around wearing a skirt that leaves nothing to the imagination as far as my assets are concerned. Y’know?

As for the socks, I can never really complain about them because who doesn’t love a good geeky novelty sock? I thought both of them were pretty subtle in design and, as always, comfy. 🙂

Wearable:

I’ve been told to watch Archer by a few people, but I have yet to do so. Whoops! I love when Loot Wear comes out with raglans though, so despite the fact that my knowledge of Archer is slim, I do like this shirt a lot. I think Archer is on Netflix still, so I don’t really have an excuse to delay me watching, right? Oh, except I still need to finish the second season of Daredevil… and Strangers Things.

STOP THAT. I can feel your judgmental glares and your scoffs of disapproval  through my laptop. 😛

Next month’s theme is “Speed” and will feature Transformers for the wearable item and something Arcee related for the Loot For Her subscription, Sonic the Hedgehog and Deadpool for socks, and Mario Kart for the t-shirt. I’m pretty excited to see what the socks and t-shirt look like! I was obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog in fifth grade. I feel that that’s probably the one video game I was somewhat decent at playing. Did I mention I suck at video games? You’d definitely want to play Mario Kart against me because you’d have a guaranteed victory on your hands, plus the added bonus of listening to me swear and be super frustrated. Apparently my friends find it amusing. – rolls eyes –

5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Vehicles I’d Love to Travel In

5fandomfriday-1 copy

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another installment of 5 Fandom Friday! Today I’m going to be sharing what 5 fictional vehicles I’d love to travel in, so let’s get started!

✿ The TARDIS

DUH! This has got to be on everyone’s list, right?! I want to travel in the TARDIS because it can go anywhere in space and time! I’d ask the Doctor to take me back in time to see Queen and The Police in concert because how cool would it be to see Freddie Mercury, the greatest vocalist of all time, perform live?!

✿ The Batmobile

I feel like I need to be specific with what model of the Batmobile I’d prefer to travel in, because the one from the Christopher Nolan movies is just… a baby tank. I’m gonna go with the 1960s a la Adam West because it’s the first form of the Batmobile I was ever introduced to. Plus I like the bubbly windshield. 🙂

✿ The Bus (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

When it’s not under attack, the Bus looks like a fun place to be. And Agent May could just put it on auto-pilot and teach me how to kick ass in the Bus’ gym. I wanna be Agent May when I grow up! Is it too late for that?

✿ The Millennium Falcon

Because it’s the mother effin’ Millennium Falcon, that’s why!

✿ The back of Steve Rogers’ motorcycle

To be specific, I would like to ride on the back of Steve Roger’s motorcycle while Steve Rogers himself (Chris Evans version) is in control of the vehicle. Hehehehehe – insert heart eye emojis –

cheers

5 Fandom Friday: Characters I Would Name My Fur Babies After

5 fandom 2

Before I became a dog owner fur baby’s mama, I always fantasized about naming my future pups after public figures — a Pomeranian named Coco Chanel, a Welsh Corgi named Winston Churchill, and a French Bulldog named Jacque Cousteau. And all the names I came up with for my phantom children were all from TV shows — Chandler from Friends, Lucca from ER, and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls. However, I decided 5 years ago that I don’t want children of my own, and NO, I will not change my mind about it!

Since the original post for this week’s 5 Fandom Friday is “Characters I Would Name My Kids After,” I decided to tweak it a bit and talk about characters I would totally name my future puppies after. As you all know, I have my Rory who was named after Rory Williams from Doctor Who. 🙂

10985180_10153108427478270_8318881423540249760_n

The other name I considered for Rory was Simon, as in Simon Tam from Firefly. The name Rory ultimately won out because I was very hellbent on naming him after someone from Doctor Who, and didn’t care that my family thought the name was “ugly.”

Anyhow, here are the names of characters I would name my fur babies after:

1. Alfred Pennyworth from Batman

alfred

Don’t tell Rory, but I adore Mini Schnauzers! They’re one of my most favorite dog breeds because they look like little old men. I decided many years ago that when I do eventually get a Schnauzer baby I will name him after Bruce Wayne’s trusty butler, Alfred Pennyworth. I’ll call him Alfie for short too! 🙂

Fun Fact: Michael Caine has played both Alfred Pennyworth in the The Dark Knight trilogy and the titular role of Alfie.

2. Andy Dwyer from Parks & Recreation

andy

Andy Dwyer is basically a Yellow Labrador Retriever in human form, so Andy is quite a fitting name for a pup! I don’t necessarily want to get a Yellow Lab and name him Andy. I think the name would work for any kind of pup, as long as it had a really silly personality.

3. Burton “Chocolate Thunder” Guster from Psyche

Burton-Guster

If I were to get a Chocolate Lab, his name would be Guster, but Gus for short and I’d also call him Chocolate Thunder because DUH. Chocolate Lab. In every episode of Psyche, whenever Shaun introduces Gus he always gives him a really silly name, Chocolate Thunder being one of them. I don’t remember which episode it was, but after I watched it I told myself that one day I will get a Chocolate Lab and name it after Gus and also bestow him with the nickname “Chocolate Thunder.”

4. Joan Holloway from Mad Men

Joan Holloway -1

I’m more of a boy-dog person, and I think that’s only because I can only ever think of boy names that I like. But one day I’d love to have a fluffy daughter because seeing all the girly things at pet stores drives me mad! I like the name Joan, as in Joan Holloway (I know her last name is Harris now, but i reject it), for a girl pup. She’s my favorite character on Mad Men, and I think her name is suitable for a fluffy little lass. I’d also call her Joanie. 🙂

5. Zoe Washburne from Firefly

zoe-washburne

Zoe is another name I like for a little girl pup. And if I named my fluffy daughter Zoe, her namesake would be Zoe Washburne from Firefly, of course! Zoe is a BAMF. All the characters I listed are BAMF! So I guess it’s a rule of thumb that all my dog sons and daughters are to be named after fictional BAMFs. 🙂

Bonus Name: Oliver “Ollie” Queen from Arrow

ollie

I started watching Arrow a couple weeks ago — I’m all done with season 2, but I have no idea where to go to watch season 3. WAAAH!!! But anyhow, I love the name Oliver (Ollie for funsies) and think it’s such a good name for a dog! If I had a fur baby named Ollie, I’d dress him up in green sweaters too 😀

Do you have any fur babies named after your favorite character? Or what characters would you name your fur babies after? Tell me in the comments section!

cheers

Curator’s Corner #3: Freddy Scribbles

I stumbled upon the art of Autumm Fredrickson, who goes by the moniker Freddy Scribbles, at Stockton Con last December. I was on the upper level looking below and saw someone flipping though her portfolio and was immediately drawn to the most adorable little print of Loki and I had to have it! It’s currently hanging above my bed 🙂 Freddy Scribbles art consists of many beloved characters from nerd culture — not only does she have the cutest Loki print, but she has all of the Avengers (even Nick Fury and Phil Coulson)! She also makes plushies called Cubies (kyoo-bees) and currently has The Hulk, Thor, Harley Quinn, and some Avengers keychains available in her store (pictured below).

I hope you all enjoy the art of Freddy Scribbles! Be prepared to say “awww!” 😀

Iron Man
Hawkeye and Black Widow
Captain America
Thor and Loki

Da Na Na Na Na Na Na Na BATMAN!

outfit details – dress: Material Girl // cardigan & belt: Merona // earrings: H&M // watch: Disney x Timex // hair bow: upcycled from a broken headband // shoes: Target ballet flats I DIY’d with Batman fabric // glasses: Derek Cardigan (buy here)

Batman’s been my favorite superhero ever since I was an itty bitty thing. I didn’t necessarily read the comics, but I watched the old campy version with Adam West all the time with my grandpa, and of course I loved the Tim Burton movies that came out when I was around 5, and Batman: The Animated Series was an after-school staple! My sister and I even had hair ribbons and shoe laces adorned with Batman’s emblem — I guess I’ve been doing the geeky-girly thing since I was a little lady. Ha! Anywho, I attempted to do some color blocking and pattern mixing with this outfit by mixing my kelly green lace dress with royal blue and hints of yellow to compliment Batman’s logo on my shoes that I DIY’d myself! I made them in August by using acrylic paint, Mod Podge, and Batman fabric on an old pair of ballet flats that I  found a bit boring. They looked really awesome after they were done and I was extremely happy with the way they turned out, but after wearing them twice the paint and bits of fabric started falling off. NOOO! I still need to figure out how to salvage them. Are there any crafty folks that might be able to give me some sage advice? I did manage to salvage the hair bow I’m wearing though — it was originally on a headband that Jen and Shanice picked up for me in Japan Town, but when I found it behind my vanity it was broken! I ripped the bow off and attached it to a clip and voila — insta-accessory! And the polkadots are kind of comic bookish since the illustrations on some of them, particularly the really old ones, were pretty dotty. 🙂

Nina

All I Want For Christmas

If you want something, you must put it out there so the universe will know. I’m not sure where I heard that from, but if that’s the case, then consider this blog post containing my Christmas Wish List as me putting what I want out in the universe.

My birthday is exactly one month from today too, so I suppose this post could also be called “All I Want For Christmas AND My Birthday, In Case I Don’t Get It For Christmas.” Chances of me getting anything off of this list are slim to none, so… wait, why I am making this list again? Oh right… to put it out in the universe. Alright, so here goes!

* Literary Pullovers & T-Shirts by Out of Print Clothing:

I’m trying to stay away from asking for books since I have more than enough books that I have yet read, so clothing adorned with my favorite pieces of literature should be more than appropriate! I’ve been drooling over all the goodies at Out Of Print Clothing for quite sometime now. Years in fact. The Great Gatsby (unisex small) and Alice in Wonderland (ladies xl) pullovers have caught my fancy and so has the The Sun Also Rises tee (ladies xxl).

Like how I conveniently added what sizes I need? 😉

* The Catcher in the Rye Locket by Sparkle Lab:

The Catcher in the Rye book locket w/ chain (large)

I want literary inspired jewelry too, please! My copy of The Catcher in the Rye is just the plain white cover, but I really want the one with the carousel horse. Rather than getting another copy, why not get this necklace instead? 🙂 It saves space on the bookshelf and would make a good addition to any outfit!

* The Fault In Our Stars Necklace by Authored Adornments

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Antiqued Bronze Book Page Necklace

A cute little necklace containing words from one of my favorite books that was written by one of my heros? Yes please!

* Doctor Who TARDIS Robe from ThinkGeek:

Okay, so this robe isn’t the cutest thing ever, however it looks super cozy and I really want to wear it so I can spin around the house saying, “vwoomp… vwooomp… vwooomp… eeee oooo … eeee oooo…” Don’t judge me.

BTW, I think I’d need this in a medium. Boyfriend, are you reading this? Mother? Friends?

It’s also a bit cheaper here.

* Chewbacca Lego Earrings by Rockets and Rainbows:

Chewbacca Lego Earrings - Statement Drop Earrings with Beadwork and Gold Chains

Do I have to explain why I want these? They’re fancy AND geeky. And, oh hey, my blog’s name happens to be Le Fancy Geek. Coincidence? Also, they were made by Jennifer Landa. If you don’t know who she is, then you need to Google her IMMEDIATELY because she’s awesome and is one of my interweb heroes.

* Lesportsac Bags:

  1. It’s a Small World – Picture Tote in ‘Midnight Harmony’ print
  2. Manoush – Chou Chou Crossbody bag
  3. It’s a Small World – Deluxe Everyday Bag in the ‘Fancy That’ print

My inner bag hag is hurtin’ for more purses since I’ve been eliminating a lot from my collection. I don’t really have a nice everyday black bag, and I really dig the coin purse closure and little details on this Manoush x Lesportsac purse. And I also really like the fact that it’s an over-the-shoulder kind of bag. No’mo sore shoulders! 🙂 And the It’s A Small World bags… I don’t need to explain why I want those. You all know I love Disney and Mary Blair. Plus I already blogged about how much I those bags not too long ago.

* Longchamp ‘Le Pilage’ Tote:

Longchamp bags are classic, non-fussy, and easy to store (they fold right up!). I got a little navy blue one when I went to Paris 10 years ago in the duty free store at the airport, but I gave it to my mom since I found that it doesn’t store all the things I need on the go. This ‘Le Pilgae’ tote is the perfect size! I really love it in the ‘Fir’ shade (pictured above) or ‘Bordeux.’

It can be found here.

* Membership to D23:

I’m a Disney fan and D23 is the official Disney fan club. It all makes perfect sense!

* Rarity v-neck from RedBubble:

Rarity is one of my many spirit animals. And this shirt by BambooDog is ridiculously adorable!

* Daisy Duck locket by Disney Couture:

Daisy Duck was my favorite as a kid, but I grew very annoyed with the lack of Daisy Duck dolls, shirts, and what-have-you so I switched to Minnie since she was more accessible. This locket would FINALLY allow me to rep my love for Daisy Duck, who seems to always get forgotten. I mean, all the times I’ve gone to Disneyland (and I’ve been there A LOT) she’s NEVER been there. What’s up with that?

* Batman Varsity Hoodie from Hot Topic:

I’ve always liked varsity jackets and Batman, so the two combined make for a seriously awesome combination! How cute would this be with a pleated skirt and boots? AH!

* Mad Men Season 5 DVD:

Mad Men is on of the only TV shows that I’ve been collecting on DVD consistently. Can you imagine how sad I was that all the seasons except for this one were on sale during Black Friday? RAGE!!! And this season was so ridiculously well executed with the storyline. And I love me some Christina Hendricks… and Jon Hamm, of course.

* Gift Cards:

So many people say that gift cards are inpersonal, but I think they’re just as thoughtful as any other gift because it’s like the giver is saying, “I want you to be able to get whatever YOU want!” Gift cards to the following would be greatly appreciated: Amazon.com, Etsy, TJ Maxx/Marshalls, Ross, Disney Store, H&M, Forever 21, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes so I can buy fancy apps for my iPad.

Well, that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I know there’s a few more things, but I do believe that the contents of this blog are more than enough! Have any of you made wish lists yet?

Cheers,
Nina
