Accio Geek Apparel: A Loot Wear Review

Last month’s Loot Wear was full of magical items from franchises like Doctor Strange, Kingdom Hearts, Adventure, but most importantly (at least to me anyway) Harry Potter! If you’re unfamiliar with Loot Wear, it’s a monthly geeky mystery apparel subscription service. There are 5 different subscriptions you can get, or you can pick a bundle to get multiple items!

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Wearble ($14.99)
  • Socks ($9.99)
  • Loot for Her ($14.99)
  • Tee ($8.99)
  • Undies ($9.99)

Bundle subscriptions are available too!

  • Socks & Wearable: 2 pairs of socks and 1 wearable ($20.99)
  • Risky Business: 1 tee, 1 pair of socks, and undies ($16.99)

Every month’s theme includes items from franchises that are related, so I was pretty damn excited when I saw that Loot Wear’s November wearble and socks subscriptions would include Harry Potter items! Here’s all the stuff that came with it:

  • Wearable: Harry Potter lounge pants
  • Loot Tees: Doctor Strange
  • Loot for Her: Kingdom Hearts knitted scarf
  • Socks: Harry Potter and Doctor Strange
  • Undies: Adventure Time feat. Earl of Lemongrab

Loot Tee:

I wasn’t too excited about the Doctor Strange movie despite the fact that I’m a self-proclaimed “Cumberbitch” because of the whole Asian whitewashing thing. I do want to look into the comics eventually though. With that prejudice aside, I thought the Doctor Strange tee was cleverly designed and I love the fact that it’s like an ugly Christmas sweater! I paired the tee with my navy polka dot skirt, a gold belt, and some red ballet flats. I would’ve worn my red cardigan with this, but it was nowhere to be found. Oh well!

Loot for Her:

A pair of Kingdom Hearts socks was included in a previous subscription with the same design as this scarf. Though I don’t play the game, I’ve gotten the most use out of this particular item besides the Harry Potter lounge pants because it’s super warm and cozy! I think the symbols are inconspicuous enough for me to get away with wearing it. And as you can see from the pics, I wear the scarf two different ways 🙂

Socks, Wearble, Undies:

The Harry Potter socks are hands down the best socks Loot Wear’s come out with. EVER. They are soooooooo cute!!!!! I can’t stand it! And I’ve been wearing the lounge pants non-stop (don’t worry, they’ve been washed twice already). They’re on the lightweight side, so I have to bundle up on blankets to keep me warm at night. But I still love ’em! Make sure you watch the unpacking video to get a better look at them and the Lemongrab undies.

December’s theme is “Revolution” and tomorrow (December 19) is the last day to subscribe to get it! Make sure to do so before 9pm PST!! Any of these subs would make the perfect Christmas present for the fangirl or fanboy in your life ♥

  • Socks: Guardians of the Galaxy, Mr. Robot
  • Wearable: Rick and Morty
  • Loot For Her: Spider-Gwen
  • Loot Tee: Invader Zim
  • Undies: Rick and Morty

If you’re interested in subscribing you can save 10% on your subscription (or any other Loot Crate subscription) by using the code “LEFANCYGEEK”! Click here to level up your geeky style. 😀

5 Fandom Friday: Characters I’d Love to Dress Up As For Halloween

Screen-Shot-2014-09-25-at-7.48.24-AM

Halloween is just around the corner! Can you believe it? I bloody well cannot. I mean… how are we even in the midst of October already? Where did September go?! Anyhow, I never really have set plans for Halloween every year, but I like having a costume ready to wear anyway because who knows? Something just may pop up! So for this edition of 5 Fandom Friday, I’m sharing the top 5 characters I’d like to dress up as for Halloween!

1. Mabel Pines

I’m actually going to be dressing up as Mabel this year and I’m super excited!!! I found a cute little pig costume at TJ Maxx for Rory last month and took that as a sign. After all, what’s Waddles without Mabel? I already have a couple of pullovers that I can Mable-fy, but I’m still uncertain of which route to go. That girl’s novelty sweater game is seriously on point.

2. Snow White

Snow White is my favorite Disney princess, so of course I’d love to dress up as her for Halloween! In second grade I asked for a Snow White costume from the Disney catalog and got to wear it at school for our Halloween parade. I thought it was the greatest thing EVER! The only thing was I was super tan from playing outside a lot, so I looked more like Dirt Brown than Snow White, y’know? I’m pretty pasty these days, so I think I can pull it off now.

3. Mary Poppins

I considered dressing up like a modern day May Poppins with my blue blazer and black skater skirt, plus this white frilly top I wore with my TARDIS costume last year. But then the Mabel thing happened, so I’ll have to put a pin on the Mary idea until another Halloween. Or convention. Who knows?! And I honestly didn’t want to deal with scouring thrift stores for the perfect carpet bag or black straw hat. #lazy

4. Camilla

Dressing up like Camilla the chicken (Gonzo’s lady love from The Muppets) seems like a random choice, I know! I came up with the idea when I was still with my ex because he had some black and white shoes that totally screamed Gonzo. So I thought it would be stupid adorable if I dressed up like Camilla and he Gonzo, except I didn’t want to go out and wear a bulky chicken costume. Hell no! I had an idea to make a dress with a bunch of feathers and make it look all flapper girl-ish. Though I may be Gonzo-less, I still don’t see why I can’t one day put this Camilla costume into fruition.

5. Lumpy Space Princess

Like, oh my glob y’all! Lumpy Space Princess is hands down my favorite character on Adventure Time. She may be full of herself, and obnoxious, but I can’t help but love her. One day I’d like to find a pouffy purple prom dress and make a flashy gold star to put on my forehead and call it a day. A co-worker of mine is planning on being a “trashy” version of LSP complete with red talons, red lipstick, and a can of beans. I’m sure it’ll be epic!

Do any of you have any idea who you’re dressing up as on Halloween yet?

Nina

Etsy Update!

Sooo… I was supposed to do an update on my Etsy store on Thursday, but it’s Sunday now. Mah bad, y’all.

I’ve been super busy since I just started my new job last Wednesday, but that’s no excuse! But I just added a few new earrings to Once Upon a Smorgasbord last night including some Disney and Hello Kitty ones made out of Squinkies, and a couple Adventure Time ones that I debuted at Sac-Con last week (and were also pictured in my recap of the con too)!

Beauty and the Beast: Belle + Philippe earrings
Adventure Time: Jake the Dog spikey earrings
Cinderella earrings
Hello Kitty earrings

I’m hoping to post more earrings and the rest of my necklaces up by Wednesday, but I’m not making any promises. Either way, I’ll let you all know when I post them!

Cheers,
Nina

Sac-Con Recap

On Sunday I went to my very first convention as a vendor! Sac-Con was a pretty amazing and freakishly scary experience for me. Why freakishly scary though? Oh, well I dunno… maybe because a majority of the items I was selling were my handmade necklaces and earrings from my Etsy store, so I had a personal stake in it, y’know? And it’s absolutely nerve wracking having some people check out your table for a few seconds and move along to the next one, or having people ask how much one of my handmade necklaces or earrings were and be completely appalled by the price. Many of my pieces are one of a kind — I have no intention on making another one exactly like it, and I use ‘spensive genuine Swarovski crystals, thus the reason why a My Little Pony necklace is priced at $35. Despite that, quite a few people swung by my table numerous times, so that was pretty cool!

Overall I found the whole thing to be a good learning experience and a step forward with my jewelry thang. 🙂 Plus I met some pretty awesome people and got tons of compliments on my pieces, SO YAAAY!

The pieces left over from the show will be up on Once Upon a Smorgasbord sometime tomorrow or Thursday. I’ll post an update once they go up. But for now, here are some pictures of my booth and a few cosplayers Tim found! 🙂

Cheers,
Nina

Once Upon a Smorgasbord is going to Sac-Con!

original photo courtesy of superbwallpapers.com

On my “Happy New Year and Whatnot” post from December I compiled a list of all the things I hope to achieve in 2013. One thing I mentioned was that I hoped to sell my jewelry from my Etsy store Once Upon a Smorgadbord at conventions and that I was on a waiting list for a show in March. Sooo… I was informed a few days ago that there was a last minute cancellation from a vendor, thus I. AM. IN. WOOOOP!!!

I will be at Sac-Con in Sacramento, CA this Sunday (the 3rd). If you happen to be going, please stop by and say hi! Since John DiMaggio (the voice of Bender from Futurama and Jake the Dog from Adventure Time) is going to be there I’m working on some special Adventure Time pieces.

MATHMATICAL!

Cheers,
Nina
