10 Years of Le Fancy Geek

On this day 10 years ago I started Le Fancy Geek. How has it been 10 years already?!

2011 was an interesting year for me. At the beginning of the year, I was a fresh college graduate with absolutely zero idea what do post college. I moved back to my hometown and spent my days looking at job listings and being absolutely paralyzed with anxiety by them, and also marathoned lots of shows on Netflix (mainly Psych). Later on in the year I met my fur baby and soulmate, Rory. I also got into my first serious relationship. But out of all these things, starting this blog and Rory are the most important highlights for obvious reasons. lololol

Along with writing, I’ve always been very passionate about fashion and geek culture. Around this time, I was hella into Doctor Who and obsessed with finding ways to incorporate elements of it into my everyday wardrobe. So, as a means to have some sort of creative outlet, I decided to start Le Fancy Geek to chronicle my outfits and random musings. Looking back, it’s astonishing to think of how far I’ve come and what this blog has brought me. And I knoooow… I don’t blog on here as often as I did before, but I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing on here again.

The coolest opportunity blogging has led me to is becoming an ambassador for Jordandene and editor at its sister company Sartorial Geek! I was really excited about the Esiponage Cosmetics nails wraps that came with the Female Fashion Accessories sub. It has a blood splatter design that reminded me of Dexter. And they glow in the mother effin’ dark! That was a total surprise to me as my nails glowed while I watched Zootopia at the theater on Monday. It does say they’re glow-in-the-dark on the package, but I was too excited to put them on my nails to bother reading anything else on it. I put the nail wraps on about a week and a half ago and they’re still on! If you ever get any nail wraps from Espionage, I highly recommend putting a top coat over to help make it last longer.

Even though I’ve never seen Silence of the Lambs or watched Hannibal because scary movies and TV shows aren’t my thing, I really love the shirt and its design is pretty inconspicuous to the unknowing. Except when I wore it to work one day, my co-worker was like, “Oh my God, it’s the death moth!” and I’m like, “the what-what?” * shoulder shrug * And… I don’t watch The Walking Dead either (I tried! it was too stressful!), but I’m loving how simplistic the cherokee rose necklace is. When you open the pendant, there’s a mirror on the inside, and on the back it’s inscribed with a quote that says “This rose started to grow right where the mother’s tears fell.” Even though I’m not part of the fandom, I am sooooo happy for all you Richonne shippers!!! ♥♥♥

Overall, I was super happy with all the items that came with every subscription. But the Deadpool shirt by Her Universe, you guys. You guuuuuys. IT IS GIVING ME SO MUCH LIFE. And the nail wraps go with it perfectly!

Win a Geeky Tank from Fifth Sun!

If you follow Le Fancy Geek regularly, you know how obsessed I am with paring any garment that’s adorned with floral prints with something geeky. It’s my most favorite combination! Well, Fifth Sun has a wide array of cute geeky tanks and tees and a few of them combine flowers with some of my fave characters from Marvel Comics and Star Wars! I feel like they were made just for me!! The folks at Fifth Sun were gracious enough to send me one tank of my choice to review too. I seriously spent an hour and half browsing their web store before I decided to get this tank with Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, or as I like to call it “mew-mew.” I’m itching to get a Star Wars tank or tee in the near future though. I think I was just overwhelmed with their Star Wars selection because they have so many cute ones that it was impossible to settle on just one.

The only thing that I was slightly worried about was how the tank would fit me. I border between XL and XXL in tops (#bigboobproblems), and the largest size they carry in women’s is an XL. That being said, the tank isn’t too snug on me (their tops fit like junior’s sizes), but I tend to tuck my tees and tanks into my skirts and wear cardigans all the time anyway so I have no issues with the way it fits me. And how perfect does it look with my pink pleated skirt and mint cropped cardigan? Hella perfect! That’s how perfect! I wore this outfit to the first Bay Area Geek Girl Brunch meet-up last weekend (sans the crinoline) since it had a Marvel Comics theme. I think the addition of the crinoline underneath my skirt gave my ensemble a geeky retro pin up vibe too, which is a look I’ve been gravitating towards a lot lately.

Overall, I’m pretty much like: This tank. I like it. ANOTHER!

Unicorn Crafts

Besides the necklace I got at AnimeExpo, I also picked up a Game of Thrones pin with House Stark’s sigil of a dire wolf and motto “Winter is coming” for my sister since she’s a huge GoT fan. This was a few weeks before I started watching the show, so now I’m bummed that I didn’t watch it any sooner. * le sigh *

Unicorn Crafts Review & Giveaway!

Hey my little ponies!

Last month I got to meet Faheema Chaudhury, the mastermind behind Unicorn Crafts, at AnimeExpo and picked up a couple of things — one being a purple resin necklace with an adorable little unicorn and bright colored sprinkles that I’m wearing in the picture above. I don’t exactly remember how I came across Unicorn Crafts… like, I don’t know if it was through another blogger’s post or a hashtag search on Instagram — all I know is that I fell in love with with all the accessories with cute unicorns and nerdy illustrations (R2D2, Doctor Who, Sailor Moon, macarons with smiley faces, etc) on them, so it was only natural for me to start ~~stalking~~ following Unicorn Crafts on Instagram to keep up with all the kawaiiness. You can’t imagine how excited I was to see that there’d be a Unicorn Crafts booth at AnimeExpo while I was there too! Or maybe you can imagine how excited I was. Who knows? 🙂

It doesn’t really seem like it needs to be said, but I’m completely smitten with my necklace! It combines everything I love: unicorns (duh), sprinkles, and the color purple. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that it’s all on a super fancy frame. All things that look fancy with a geeky/cute element pretty much have my name written all over it. I kind of feel like this necklace was made just for me — obviously it wasn’t, but still. Faheema illustrated the unicorn herself (all the pieces for Unicorn Crafts feature her original artwork), but what’s so awesome about it is that it’s made from Shrinky Dinks (in case you’re too young to know what that is, it’s this)!
