Hey my little, ponies! I archived these outfit pics I took a few months ago and think now is a good time to bust them out. It is Leap Day, after all! This is the outfit I was supposed to wear to my cousin’s wedding in Hawaii back in September, but the material of my dress and shoes didn’t mesh very well with the tropical climate. Thank goodness I packed another dress that worked out well! And how perfect does my little Darth Vader purse go with it? 🙂
Tomorrow I’m supposed to start another Whole 30 again. Either that or I might start during the weekend so I have more time to prep for it. Either way, I’m going to be doing a more modified version because you’re not supposed to have breath mints or gum since it contains added sugar. I refuse to walk around with travel sized mouth wash or just suffer with stinky breath. I’m gonna keep on poppin’ my Altoids, thank you very much! I’m going to continue to drink all my teas too. I got some new ones from Riddles Tea Shoppe that are absolutely delicious, but they contain some ingredients that are Whole30 no-nos. Nothing too crazy though, so I think I should be okay.
Happy Leap Day, y’all! Hope you found yourself making the most of the extra day we got this year. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try and figure out what book I want to read next!
dress: Heart of Haute (buy here) | glasses: Firmoo (n/a)
purse: Loungefly (buy here) | ring: from a cupcake!
shoes: Deflex Comfort (buy here)
PS: Jennifer told me I should start including bloopers from our photo shoots, so here’s me making a stupid face. 😛
I remember picking up Me Before You by Jojo Moyes at Barnes & Noble sometime last year and thought the plot sounded interesting enough to make note of it and add to my goodreads “to-read” list. It took the trailer of the book’s film adaptation for my interest to pique again, but more on that later!
Me Before You is about a young woman named Louisa Clark who has a zest for zany apparel and doesn’t feel she quite fits in. She’s a waitress at her small hometown’s cafe, but suddenly finds herself in a rut as her boss decides to close shop out of the blue leaving her jobless. The pressure is on to find a new job ASAP as she’s the breadwinner in her family. After a string of unsuccessful gigs the Job Center has found for her, she lands a job as a daytime companion and caretaker for Will Traynor, a 35-year old quadriplegic man who had an extravagant lifestyle before the terrible accident that took his ability to walk away, and he’s pretty much fed up with life. Lou’s main job is to help keep things lively and socialize with Will, except it’s quite a challenge for Lou as his demeanor is ice cold, sarcastic, and condescending. Basically, Will’s a grade A arse. But as tales as old as time, they come to understand one another and bloppity bloop bloop. <— I’m not trying to give the whole story away. You can watch the trailer for that. 😛
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and gobbled it up in two days! After watching the trailer I thought, “Damn, I think that story is going to break my heart. I MUST READ THE BOOK IMMEDIATELY” because I fucking love sad stories. I live for them. Sometimes I just want to have a good cry. I don’t know why, I just do. About a week after I saw the trailer, I went to the local used book store and scored a copy for $2.25!
Me Before You felt like a combination of Beauty & the Beast and The Fault in Our Stars because Lou’s got that small town oddball thing going on and Will comes from a rich family and his attitude is so nasty in the beginning. There’s even one part where Lou finally tells him that he doesn’t need to always be such an arse, and it totally reminded me of the part in Beauty & the Beast where Belle is attending to the Beast’s wound after he rescues her from the wolves and they have that back and forth banter, and Belle eventually puts him in his place by saying “Well if you hadn’t frightened me I wouldn’t have runaway!” I downloaded the audiobook for Me Before You since I had a couple of free credits from Audible (which I thought I cancelled, but alas), and it’s a good thing I downloaded it too because my vision got blurry towards the end — couldn’t make out a damn word through my tears.
I came across the trailer for the movie a few weeks ago and I geeked the hell out over nearly every actor that was cast in the film version.
This was me while watching the trailer:
Aww, it’s Khaleesi looking like a straight up dork.
Oooh, sexy British dude from The Hunger Games.
OMG! Claraaaaa! [from Doctor Who]
TYWIN LANNISTER IS IN THIS MOVIE TOO?
AND MISTER BATES?! [Downton Abbey]
The fact that it was British made me even more excited, because accents! So, if you’re into books that break your heart and inspire you to live boldly, then Me Before You is for… well, you!
Who else celebrated Galentine’s Day last weekend?! I had so much fun celebrating it with three of my fave lady friends: Jen, Shanice, and Caitlin. It consisted of a bunch of waffles, a bit of Domhnall Gleeson (About Time was on the telly), milk tea with Boba, and Deadpool! Jen and I went to Grape City Con in Lodi first since my uncle gave me two tickets. I wasn’t really expecting much out of it, but it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I ended up leaving with a little portrait of Chewbacca and a Padme action figure that would totally make a perfect wedding cake topper if I pair it with my Darth Vader action figure. I mean… not that I’m planning on using it for that purpose, but who knows? It just might come in handy one day. 😛
While we were there, Jen got me a cute Loki inspired bow made out of perler beards (pictured below) and a Deadpool one for herself since they matched our outfits perfectly. The vendor who made them didn’t have a business card, nor was their business’ name anywhere in sight at their booth, so I have no idea who to give credit to and it’s driving me mad. Soooo, if you happened to be at Grape City Con and you know who made all the geeky perler bead hair accessories, let a girl know! Waffles, a bit ‘o Domhnall, Shanice, milk tea with boba, and Deadpool all happened after the con. The Deadpool movie was so much f*cking fun, you guys! I have a crude sense of humor, so I quite enjoyed it. Now I feel even more compelled to pick up some Deadpool comics!
Can I talk about this dress I wore for Galentine’s Day for a sec? Oh, duh. Of course I can. It’s my damn blog! It’s from LulaRoe, which is a company my sister has been über obsessed with. She has so many of their leggings, I don’t even know how many pairs she has, but she got me a pair for Galentine’s Day and they feel like buttah when I wear them. She introduced LuLaRoe to me a few months ago since one of her co-workers is a fashion consultant for them and thought I might like the dresses they have. And she was right! They don’t have an online shop on their website like most clothing companies do. Instead, people can contact them to become fashion consultants and through that, they are sent merch to sell via online pop up shops. My sister’s co-worker sells things through a private Facebook group. I believe that’s how most consultants sell stuff. So think Avon, but for clothes (I guess?). This particular dress was part of their holiday collection and I remember drooling over it because it’s perfect for a Loki inspired outfit! I bought it earlier this month when I saw that it was still available and planned to wear it for Galentine’s Day. I paired it with the Loki necklace I got at Anime Expo as a subtle nod, but when I saw Shanice she was like, “I love your dress, it’s very Slytherin!” After giving her a dirty look and saying it’s for Loki, she said it could also work for Legend of Zelda. I think it’d be good for an Emerald City inspired ensemble too.
If you watched Deadpool or can think of any other geeky thing I can base an outfit around for this green and gold dress, lemme know in the comments section!
What? Two posts in one day?! Awww yiisssss, that’s right!

Hey my little, ponies! Long time no see, but there’s good reason for that. I’m back in school (kinda)! I decided to take an online creative writing course at the local community college to kick my ass back into gear in terms of writing fiction. It’s been a long long time since I’ve worked on any new stories (came up with ideas and jotted some notes, but that’s all), and I want to get back into the swing of things. Working on my writing is something I recall mentioning on my blog every time the New Year came ’round, and I never fulfilled it because I was always caught up doing something else.
THIS IS THE YEAR I START WRITING AGAIN, GODDAMMIT. – pounds left fist on table indignantly –
We’re only in the third week of the semester, but it seems to be going okay so far. I’ve never taken an online course before so I’m trying to get used to it. It’s odd not meeting in a classroom once or twice a week, and the only means of communication is all through email or message boards, so I have no idea who my fellow classmates are. But like I said, it seems to be going okay. This week’s assignment is to hash-out the plot of the story I’m working on and I’m kind of like, “Uh… what the hell is my story about anyway?” I dug up an unfinished short that I worked on in one my creative writing classes at SFSU that’s inspired by Jenny Lewis’ song “Rabbit Fur Coat.” I thought it’d be appropriate since this year is the 10th anniversary of her first solo album of the same name. You can listen to my source of inspiration here. I have an idea of who my two main characters are and what the issues between them are and why, but as for the actual plot? I don’t think I ever really thought about it and I’ve been trying to think of things. BLUGH.
Another thing I’m going to be starting is dog grooming school! I was supposed to start that last month, but I ended up being the only student to show up on the first day. I don’t really want to go into further detail about that until things start to pick up, but I’m pretty excited about it 🙂
Are any of you attempting to fulfill long-term goals you’ve set for yourself too? Let me know in the comments below!
