May the Force be With Boo!

Hey my little ponies! I just wanted to send out a quick little Happy Halloween greeting to you all! I was supposed to dress as Hipster Princess Leia with Rory as my Wicket, but my costume ended up not going the way I wanted it to. And I have absolutely zero plans for today, sooo… oh well!

Anyhow, whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a fantastic and safe Halloween. 😀

Pink Wash Conundrum

I don’t believe in washing my lighter clothes separately from my darker clothes. I ain’t got time for that! Throwing everything into the wash and putting it on cold has never ever been a problem for me. Why the hell am I talking about this? It’s all relevant to the outfit I’m wearing in this post, I swear! Now, you see that white t-shirt I’m wearing with an uber fancy pants Cyberman on it? Well, it is no longer white. It is pink because I accidentally didn’t switch the wash from warm/cold water to cold/cold water. UUUUGGGGHHHH!!! Such a rookie mistake! Wanna know what turned it pink too? If you guessed the skirt I’m wearing in these picture, you’d be correct. /facepalm

In a way it’s kind of funny since –SPOILER ALERT– Danny Pink from series 8 of Doctor Who turns into a Cyberman… and my shirt’s got a Cyberman and now it’s suddenly pink. Get it? Get it??? Haaaa… okay, I’m the only one who finds it amusing. 😛

It’s not drastically pink. I don’ think so, anyway. But another casualty that the red skirt hit was my mint green cropped cardigan. RUGH. – insert angry face emoji here

Lesson learned? Always triple check the water temperature before I wash my clothes!

Wookiee Wednesday: Thoughts on The Force Awakens Trailer

I had no intention of watching the latest trailer for The Force Awakens because I’m very hellbent on watching it without knowing a damn thing. I was a little worried that the trailer might give away more than I wanted. And then my friend told me some possible spoilery theory she saw on Facebook this morning and I was like, “Why the hell would you tell me that?! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING!!! Uuuugggghhh.” Anyhow, my plan to skip on the trailer all went out the window when my aunt called me into the other room on Monday night by yelling, “NINA! NEW STAR WARS TRAILER!!!” I totally freaked Rory out because he ran after me as I jetted off to go watch it. Whoops! And then Travis texted me a link not too long after, so there was really no escaping it.

For today’s Wookiee Wednesday I thought I’d share all the thoughts that went through my head as I watched the trailer. 😀

  • Ooh, it’s Rey!
  • (Rey zipping down) Weeeeee!
  • BB-8!!!!!!!!
  • “Who are you?” “I’m no one.” If your last name is being kept under wraps on purpose then you MUST be someone of importance, Rey.
  • (LucasFilms logo appears) The chills. I haz them!
  • Stormtroopers!!
  • OH MY GOD IS THAT MY HUXBAND???
  • Ugggghhh… why you no show my Domhnall Gleeson? 😦
  • Fiiiinnnn… how the hell are you wearing all black in the desert? HOW?
  • Kylo Ren = Darth Vader fanboy
  • He looks like a bird.
  • Melted Darth Vader helmet hurts my heart.
  • STOP TORTURING POE THAT IS SO RUDE.
  • The Millennium Falcooooonnn!
  • GOOSEBUMPS. SO MANY GOOSEBUMPS.
  • Why is it getting blurry? Oh, that’s just my tears.
  • Finn and Poe… possible bromance? Why no fist bump?
  • What is this temple thingy?
  • R2! And Luke? Must be Luke.
  • CAPTAIN PHASMA IS KWEEEEEEEN!
  • Who’s maybe dead body are you crying over, Rey? WHO?!?!
  • LIGHTSABERS.
  • LEIA! OMG DON’T BE CRY, GIRL.
  • HAN, HOLD ME.
  • NOW I’MMA CRY.
  • OH MY GOD.
  • OH MY GAAAAAAAAWWWWD.

Seriously, y’all. OH. MY. GAAAWWWD! I can’t wait until December 18!! I already got my ticket for a 1:30 am IMAX show the night of the 17th! And I’m already planning on what I’m gonna wear. 😛

Geek out with me in the comments by letting me know how you reacted and whether or not you’re going to watch The Force Awakens opening weekend! 😀

cheers

PS: Happy Back to the Future Day!! I know it has absolutely nothing to do with Star Wars, but I had to say something 😀

As some of you may know, I’m also a fashion writer for Wear Your Voice Mag! I started a series called Fashion Faux Pas for the 30-Something where I feature a so-called faux pas and show how you can still rock it even if you’re 30 and over… or in my case, about to be 30! In my latest one I wrote about something near and dear to my to me: My Little Pony! Can you believe some people don’t approve of grown ass women (and men) owning MLP swag?! Check out the article here.

And here’s a list of some of the other articles I’ve done over the last few months that I totally forgot to share here:

Wookiee Wednesday: Kessel Run[way] Ready

Welcome to another Wookiee Wednesday! Ever since Force Friday, us Star Wars fangirls (and boys) have been bombarded with all kinds of superb clothes and accessories from various different companies to fulfill our geeky fashion needs. To say it’s been seriously overwhelming is an understatement. I am constantly having to tell myself to cool my jet-packs (heh) and put my wallet away. There’s just soooOoOoOoo MUCH to chose from! What’s a fangirl to do?!

I started getting a little overwhelmed when choosing which accessories and whatnot to feature, but then I decided to narrow it down on things from the lighter side of the Force. I’m always “dark side this, and dark side that,” so I think it’s time to restore some balance on the blog. 🙂

wookiee wednesday1

1. Han Solo purse by Sent From Mars | 2. R2D2 necklace from HSN
3. Chewbacca raglan from JCPenney| 4. Wicket purse by Loungefly
5. BB-8 t-shirt by Fifth Sun | 6. R2-D2 heels by Irregular Choice

    1. I am a self professed bag hag and huge Han Solo fan, so when I saw this Han purse by Sent From Mars my fangirl heart exploded! The details are insane! I am so willing to get rid of all my basic black purses to make room for this one in my collection.
    2. Is this the droid I’ve been looking for? ME THINKS SO. After Her Universe announced that they would have some merch on HSN, I took a look online afterwards and saw that they have some gorgeous Star Wars jewelry, including this blingy R2 necklace. — insert heart eye emojis
    3. JC Penney is slayin’ it with their Star Wars apparel right now! I have a couple of tees that I picked up there, but this Chewie raglan was nowhere to be found in my size while I was shopping. For now, I shall just admire it from afar.
    4. Novelty purses are so much fun, so I’m so excited that Loungefly has been coming out with tons of cute ones as of late. When I saw this Wicket one pop up online a few weeks ago I nearly choked on my spit from gasping so violently at the site of it because OMG LOOK AT HOW CUTE IT IS!!!!!
    5. Soooo, I actually own this BB-8 tee! I bought it from Fifth Sun after they released a bunch of new Force Awakens tees since they were having a sale. The movie hasn’t even come out yet and everyone already loves BB-8. But really, how could you not?
    6. I’m not a high heels kind of girl. If I’m going to some extra oomph in my step I prefer wedges because they’re more stable. BUT HOLY EFFIN’ SPACE BALLS. These shoes by Irregular Choice have R2 on them!!!! I’ve been a long admirer of the quirky unicorn Irregular Choice heels ModCloth always seems to have in stock, but these R2 ones? Stop it. JUST STOP. I love how they’re so gaudy, girly, and utterly geeky. Those are all my favorite things rolled into one item! Waaaaannnntttt.

Have you discovered and/or bought any awesome Star Wars goods recently? Or maybe have your eye on something? Tell me about them in the comments!cheers

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Fictional Teachers

5fandomfriday-1 copy

Today’s 5 Fandom Friday prompt has us heading back to school with our favorite fictional teachers. I had a bit of a hard time coming up with a few, and even thought “what if I just change this to 5 things I love about Indiana Jones?” because he’s seriously all I kept thinking about for this prompt. Haha!

Here’s what I managed to come up with:

✿ Indiana Jones from the Indiana Jones series

Me thinks there is no need for an explanation on this one.

✿ Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter series

Professor McGonagall is probably the kind of professor that would intimidate the hell out of me and make me want to excel in all my classes just so I could impress her. And she’s a BAMFW (bad ass mother f*cking witch).

✿ Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World

Feeney! Feeee-heh-heeee-naaaay! Mr. Feeney is so wise and has so much sass. How he put up with the Matthews brothers throughout their ENTIRE scholastic careers, I don’t know.

✿ Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus

If she were my teacher I would both dread and look forward to any field trip. Are we shrinking today? Are we gonna hang out with bugs? Are we gonna go up someone’s nose and explore the human body? Are we going to space? MUCH ADVENTURE. VERY EDUCATE. WOW.

Wait… why am I speaking like Doge so much now? Oh well, whatever.

✿ Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars

I re-watched the prequels not too long ago and I can’t help but have more respect for Obi-Wan because he’s so damn patient! Like, here he is trying to fulfill his mater’s dying wish to train young Anakin, but Annie’s a little whiney boo-hoo boy (for reasons that are completely understandable, but still) that constantly defies him. And though I align myself with the dark side of the Force, I can’t help but feel for Obi-Wan. HOW COULD YOU ANNIE?! MUCH BETRAYAL!

Who are your favorite fictional teachers? Lemme know in the comments section. 😀

Wookiee Wednesday: You Can’t Sith With Us

On Wednesdays my friend Brianna and I always wear something Star Wars related to work and have dubbed the day “Wookiee Wednesday.” We used to dress up in Star Wars duds on Tuesdays, but since we don’t see each other on Tuesdays this semester anymore, we settled for Wednesdays. Technically, I wore this outfit on Monday, but whatever! And in case you’re wondering, yes, I am wearing something Star Wars related today (my Rescuers/Star Wars mash-up tee by James Hance and some Rebellion earrings!).

I’m going to attempt to bring Wookiee Wednesday to Le Fancy Geek too! Maybe it’ll be an outfit post, or maybe it’ll be a toy review… who knows?! But don’t be surprised if I blog about Star Wars on a day other than Wednesday. It cannot be helped; the Fandom is strong with me.

This Darth Vader pullover was one of my Force Friday finds from when I went to Target at midnight. It’s super cozy and goes with everything! And if you saw last night’s post, you might recognize the Wanderlust + Co bib necklace I get to borrow thanks to Rocksbox. When I first opened up my package from them and saw this necklace, it immediately just made me think of how great it would look with my Darth Vader pullover. Nothing says “Darth Vader” like a fancy sparkly necklace, am I right?

BTW, 71 MORE DAYS UNTIL STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS COMES OUT!!!! Are any of you flipping the hell out too?!

It is seriously an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan right now! And also kind of terrible because all the amazing new merch hasn’t been to kind on my wallet. I mean… I know I don’t NEED to buy all these things, but I’m a terrible shopaholic and have a hard time saying “no.” Although, I am pretty proud of myself for putting down a BB-8 and Captain Phasma watch at Kohl’s last week because I told myself that I really didn’t need them. Baby steps, guys. Baby steps. Or BB-steps? HA! See what I did there. I’m so punny.

Rocksbox Review

If you’re super into fancy baubles like me, you might like Rocksbox! If you’re not familiar, Rocksbox is a jewelry subscription service that loans 3 pieces of jewelry by designers such as Kendra Scott, Loren Hope, Wanderlust + Co, etc. It’s kind of like Netflix, but for jewelry! Everything comes in a fancy little box, and they conveniently include a return label for when you’re all done to ship it back. If you happen to fall in love with any of the pieces they send you, you can buy it for a discounted price too. And BTW, each box contains at least $200 worth of bling!

You might be asking, “But, Nina. How do they determine what kind of jewelry you get? Do they just send random pieces, have a set design to send with every box, or whuuut?” So lemme tell you! When you sign up for Rocksbox and become a “Shine Insider,” you take a survey so they can figure what you’re into style-wise and then you get to create a wish list. Once your wish list is created, a Rocksbox stylist will curate a box for you based on the pieces you chose and voila! 3 out of however many pieces you chose will magically appear at your doorstep! Or mailbox…. or, y’know, wherever you happen to pick up your mail.

And you’re not limited to just one box a month! Once you send back the first box you get, they’ll put together another one for you once they receive it.

In case you’re wondering, Rocksbox is $19 a month. But lucky for you, I have a special coupon code so you can get your first month for free!! Just use code CHEZFANCYPANTSXOXO when you sign up. ☺

For my first Rocksbox, I received a gunmetal bib necklace by Wanderlust + Co, a bracelet by Loren Hope, and rose quartz earrings by Kendra Scott. I thought all the jewelry was super fab, particularly the bib, and I had a lot of fun finding outfits to wear with them. As for purchasing any of them? I wasn’t totally 100% in love with any of the items and even with the discount that Shine Insider’s get, it’s still kinda expensive. The Loren Hope bracelet retails for $78, but the discount only saves you $8.

I think that the quality of the jewelry is top notch compared to some of the stuff I have from Claire’s and whatnot, so if you’re into investing in pieces this might be the perfect subscription box service for you. It’s perfect even if you just want to try things on for the fun of it! I’m trying Rocksbox out for the latter, because who doesn’t to love to play dress-up?

(check out the blog again tomorrow for more of this outfit I’m wearing!)

Don’t forget, using the code CHEZFANCYPANTSXOXO will get you a whole month of Rocksbox for free!

cheers

5 Fandom Friday: My Ideal Apocalypse Dream Team

I’m back with another 5 Fandom Friday! Let’s see if I can actually keep up and do each and every single prompt for October. Today’s theme is to share 5 people I’d love to have by my side during the apocalypse. I thought this was going to be a tricky list to come up with, but it was actually quite easy!

✿ The Doctor from Doctor Who

I’d want the Doctor by my side because he always manages to get out of sticky situations, so the apocalypse should be no big deal to him. And he can always relocate me and the rest of our team elsewhere in time and space via the TARDIS. Hooray for loopholes!

✿ Ron Swanson from Parks & Recreation

Ron Swanson knows how to survive out in the wilderness, so when we land on another planet or different time to get away from the end of the world he’ll be able to hunt for food and figure out how to create a shelter in case when the Doctor leaves us (because the Doctor is unpredictable and will come and go at the drop of a hat).

✿ Captain America

Let’s be honest, Mama needs some eye candy! And I would also want someone with a sunnier disposition than the Doctor and Ron Swanson that can also hold their own.

✿ Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series

Hermione is the brightest witch around, and you know Harry and Ron would totes be dead if she wasn’t there to help them out. In the event of an apocalypse, I’m more than sure Hermione would know what to do and be completely prepared for anything.

✿ Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I mean… she’s the mother flippin’ vampire slayer. She can do anything, including saving all of our asses from an apocalypse. I would be incredibly stupid to not want her by my side!

Who would you want by your side if the end of the world was nigh? Let me know in the comments!

cheers

the biblio files

The Biblio Files: Operation S.I.N.: Agent Carter

While I was in Hawaii, I thought I was going to have all this downtime to read. But I was wrong. SO WRONG. It wasn’t until my flight back home that I was able to read volume 3 of Ms. Marvel and Operation S.I.N.: Agent Carter. If you’re down with the badass ladies of Marvel, then you should definitely pick both of these graphic novels up! Operation S.I.N. won’t exactly fill that hole in your heart if you’re missing the Agent Carter tv show with queen Hayley Atwell playing the titular role like somethin’ fierce, but it helps a wee bit.

Operation S.I.N. follows Peggy Carter a few years after the war and she suddenly finds herself lured into a crazy mission led by Howard Stark after an alien energy source is discovered in Russia, and it’s up to the two of them to track down its location. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but there’s a dude that can turn into a bear and a Russian gulag run by Hydra. Hydra, aliens, gulags, and bears, OH MY!

The story takes place in the Marvel comic universe, rather than the cinematic one that most of us (-ahem– me) are used to, so I was slightly taken aback when Peggy says she’s American and not British. It’s an easy detail to get over once you immerse yourself in the story and see that Peggy’s razor sharp wit and overall badassery is still intact. 🙂

I’m trying my best to get into the swing of reading regularly like I used to, but I’ve been finding that I get extremely distracted and lost in my own head lately — specifically when I try to read books with no pictures. Bleh. That’s why I find myself reading graphic novels and comic books more frequently now. Anyhow, I’m hoping to regularly post more book reviews so please bear with me if they happen to sputter randomly.

What books have you been reading — graphic novel or not? Let me know in the comments!

cheers
