♥ The new Star Wars trailer gives us all reasons to stay alive! Did you get goosebumps when the Millenium Falcon showed up? I DID.

♥ In true Nerdfighter fashion, John Green didn’t forget to be awesome and donated signed copies of his books to the public library in Ferguson!

♥ Can you believe Christmas is already around the corner? Here are some fun ways to geek up your gift wrapping.

Puppies dressed like Disney characters is the best thing EVER.

Who Said It?: The Dowager Countess or Jane Austen? I got 11/12 and I don’t know how.

♥ I found this DIY summer bracelet tutorial on Pinterest, but think it would be fun to do as a stocking stuffer!

Another Pinterest DIY craft find: make your own Iron Throne for your phone.

♥ I rooted for Alfonso and Witney on Dancing With The Stars, but how cute is this Super Mario inspired number by Mark and Sadie?

5 Fandom Friday: Stores I’d Love Throw All My Money At For Black Friday Deals

Screen-Shot-2014-09-25-at-7.48.24-AM

Black Friday is here, followed by Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday! I’m braving it out this weekend solely for the free Downton Abbey cups that World Market will be giving away all weekend (yeah, I know that’s ludicrous, but I love Downton Abbey and the cups are so cute!), but I’m mostly interested in shopping online because I won’t have to deal with crazy shoppers. So here are some of the places I’d love to throw all my money at!

1. Stay Home Club

Oh, Stay Home Club. All the merch on their web store just speaks to my soul as a self-professed disgruntled anti-social homebody. From now until midnight you can take 25% off your entire order, including gift cards! I’m definitley snagging the Stay Home dogs t-shirt that I’ve been eyeing for what feels like forever! The pup on the top looks like my little fluffers too. 😀

Be sure to use the code YEAHFRIDAY at checkout!

2. Her Universe

Tons of prices on geektastic fashions have been slashed mercilessly — some styles are even up to 60% off — and an adorable holiday Boba Fett pin comes with every purchase of $25 or more (while supplies last)! I’ve been eyeing the Avengers Icon Dress since they released it earlier this year and it’s on sale for $25 right now (normally $45)!!! Annnd, the Goodbye Raggedy Man tank I’ve been coveting is on sale for a whopping $15!

3. Think Geek

Think Geek if offering selected items for up to 60% off PLUS an additional 20% off orders $40+, 25% off orders $100+, and 30% off orders $100+! Talk about great savings, riiight?! One of the things I’m totally drooling over is the R2-D2 car charger which is $29.99 (originally $39.99). I honestly haven’t gone through the rest of the site to see what other amazing geeky things they have because I’m trying not to be THAT much of a masochist.

Use code ELFINSALE up until the 29th at 11:59 pm PST

4. Out of Print

I have a number of things from Out of Print and I love them just as much as the books they’re based on! Right now everything in their web store is 30% off! EVERYTHING. And they released some Where the Wild Things Are swag not too long ago and oh-my-gawd, I need them so! – cries –

5. Clashist

I love Clashist’s outrageous t-shirts soooo effing much, but my bank account hates their prices. I do own their Ryan Gosling shirt which is by far the sexiest thing in my closet, and worth every penny! Up until 11:59 pm on the 29th, you can use these codes to save some $$$:

  • SANTABALLS off orders $230+
  • FROSTYBALLS off orders $130+
  • JINGLEBALLS off orders $55+

The t-shirts I’m absolutely drooling over are the Ron Swanson Breakfast tee, Bill Murray Dot tee, and the Wes Anderson Volume 1 tee.

Are you braving it out in the real world for some great deals or are you sticking with online sales? Let me know in the comments!

Cheers,
Nina

♥ Grimm’s original fairytales (the super dark, creepy ones)  have been translated into English for the very first time! Watch the book trailer.

Neil Gaiman talks about fairytales, his latest story “The Sleeper & the Spindle” (which seems to be a Sleeping Beauty/Snow White mash-up), and how every fairytale is “a loaded gun.”

The trailer for the live adaptation of Cinderella is out now and ERMERGERD I’m so excited!

The Pitch Perfect 2 trailer is out too and it looks aca-awesome 😀

30 things from the most radical decade: The 90s. Crazy nostalgia awaits (for most of you, I assume)!

Which of the Seven Dwarfs Are You? Apparently I’m Bashful.

♥ Would You Rather?: Hot Guys vs. Food. Honestly, I’m appalled that being served cookie butter on a silver platter beat out an intimate camping trip with Tom Hiddleston. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? Don’t you know Tom would bring the cookie butter on the trip because he knows you love it??? Because he is perfect!!!

5 Fandom Friday: Characters I Would Invite To My Thanksgiving Feast

Screen-Shot-2014-09-25-at-7.48.24-AM

Happy Friday, my little ponies! Today’s 5 Fandom Friday post is about which fictional characters I’d like to invite to my Thanksgiving feast. When I first saw the theme I thought it would be extremely difficult narrowing it down to just 5 characters, but once I got the metaphorical ball rolling it was actually quite easy! And just for funsies I’m also adding what dish I would have each character bring to my Thanksgiving feast because let’s face it: I can’t cook for shit and if I were to ever host Thanksgiving, you bet your sweet ass it would be a potluck.

1. Liz Lemon from 30 Rock

Liz loves food. I love food. Inviting her to my Thanksgiving feast is a no-brainer! We would talk about food and the kinds that we love most, bond over Star Wars, and talk about how people in general are very annoying. Especially youths.

Om Nom Contribution: Cheese dishes! Mac & Cheese, a cheese platter, and mozzarella sticks because clearly we’re going to have a sleepover afterwards and we’re going to work on our night cheese. I will have lactaid pills in case any of us need them, of course.

2. Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation

Leslie Knope may be very intense, but she’s super friendly and eager to please. If she were to come to my Thanksgiving feast, we’d probably have great conversation about Harry Potter, women we look up to, and the importance of breakfast food. Plus, she’d help keep the conversation stay positive because Liz and I might go off in negative tangents. And I hope that I will say something that makes her respond with, “Oh, Nina. You beautiful land mermaid.”

Om Nom Contribution: Waffles, syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and chocolate chips.

3. Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers

Tina Belcher would be so much fun to have as a guest for Thanksgiving! We would all talk about writing and where we get our inspiration from (she would then go off on a tangent about Jimmy Pesto Jr.’s butt, and then Leslie would argue that her husband has cutest butt in the world, and then I would argue that Welsh Corgis hold the award for Cutest Butt in the World and then they’d all agree with me because I’m totally right), books, and boys (duh). Tina would most likely talk about her latest erotic friend fiction story, and we’d all probably be slightly uncomfortable yet highly amused.

Om Nom Contribution: A huge platter full of burgers from her dad’s restaurant and fries, naturally.

4. Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaires

Princess Mia! How could I not invite her? She would be extremely lovely and then let loose a bit after a glass of champagne that her Grandmère had her body guard (who is watching the football game in the other room) bring with him. She would talk about school and princess lessons and Michael Moscovitz, and tell us how hard it is to balance it all, and we’d all be like “Amen, sister!” Then we’d all talk about our favorite “Top 5” things (movies, Star Wars characters (Liz Lemon would be so amused that Princess Mia owns Queen Amidala underwear), places to get sandwiches, and whatnot because Mia likes making lists in her journal, and I like making lists in my head.

Om Nom Contribution: The turkey and pies made with Genovian pears, because Grandmère would insist that because she is a princess and a guest, she should not be subjected to contributing. But Mia will explain that it’s rude to NOT bring something to a potluck, so Grandmère tells her to go ahead and bring the turkey and dessert to show just how great and accomodating Genovians truly are. <– I’m basing this all off the way Grandmère is portrayed in the books, not the movie where she’s sweet and lovely and played by the ever beautiful Julie Andrews.

doctor-who-11th-doctor

5. The 11th Doctor from Doctor Who

Despite the fact that the Doctor spends most of his time in modern-day London when he’s not off exploring far-off lands in the distant past or future, I think he’d be a lovely Thanksgiving guest — particularly the 11th Doctor because of his boyish charm and old man tendencies. Plus I want to see Tina attempt to flirt with him because he would totally be oblivious to her advances. 😀

Om Nom Contribution: Fish Fingers & Custard, of course! And Jammy Dodgers for pre-dinner snackies.

My Thanksgiving feast actually sounds more like a slumber party, but I think that’s okay! Who would you invite to your Thanksgiving feast? Let me know in the comments section!

Cheers,
Nina

5 Fandom Friday: Smart Phone Apps I Cannot Live Without

Screen-Shot-2014-09-25-at-7.48.24-AM

Hey my little ponies! Today’s 5 Fandom Friday was a bit hard for me to come up with since its theme is “Smart Phone Apps I Cannot Live Without” because I honestly feel like I mostly use my phone to text my friends and family, and check Instagram. But upon further reflection, I’ve thought of a few other apps on my phone that I would be lost without (one of them, I would literally be lost if I didn’t have it!).

1. Instagram

Okay, I don’t have to digress on this one, right? Right. Okay, moving on!

2. Cartwheel

I’m always at Target. I went there three times this week (including today), and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself there tomorrow or Sunday. The Cartwheel app has tons of coupons that lets users save $$$ on certain products, and there’s a function that allows users to scan items with their phones to see if they’re on sale! It’s extremely handy and perfect for frugal shoppers like myself. I’ve saved quite a bit thanks to it, and it also helps if you have a Target Red Card too since it allows you to save an additional 5%. 😀

3. Google Maps

I have no sense of direction whatsoever. If you ask me what direction is North, I will point up towards the sky. If I didn’t have Google Maps on my phone, I would probably be stuck in the middle of nowhere. Granted, there have been a couple of times where my phone just crapped out on me and lost connection causing me to pull over to figure out what the eff happened, but for the most part it’s helped me get from point A to point B in one piece.

4. Afterlight

I prefer using Afterlight to edit photos for my blog or Instagram. The filters on Instagram are quite limited, and Afterlight also has a lot of great features for framing pics and whatnot. It’s the one app where I’m actually willing to spend money on the extra features. It’s important to note I’m a bit of a miser when it comes to shelling out money on apps.

5. Pinterest

There are times when I don’t have a book with me to read during my breaks at work, so Pinterest keeps me entertained at all times! I think after Instagram it’s my favorite form of social networking.

What are some smart phone apps you can’t live without?

Cheers,
Nina

Hey Girl. Cool Shirt.

Hey Girl. Today is Ryan Gosling’s 34th birthday!

What better day to show off this crazy, stupid, lovely (see what I did there?) t-shirt from Clashist that features the Gos’ handsome mug all over it than today? I’ll be honest, I forgot that today was RyRy’s special day until I checked Facebook this morning. But to my defense, am I really obligated to remember all my celebrity crushes birthdays? I certainly hope not! Anyhow, I immediately put this outfit together because it is absolutely appropriate for today. 😀

So this outfit post, unlike all the ones I’ve posted in the past, is a legit #OOTD/#WIWT (Outfit of the Day/What I Wore Today). Like, I’m seriously wearing it as I put this post together. I had to ask one of my co-workers to take pictures of me during within a 5-minute span just so I could make this post after I got home from work. Shout out to Brianna for taking the pictures with my phone!

Like many ladies my age, I was first exposed to the sexiness that is Ryan Gosling during his Mickey Mouse Club days. Err… okay, so he wasn’t sexy then — I mean hellooo, what was he, 13? GROSS. At the very least he was adorable and 7-year-old me totally had a crush on him, but Tony Lucca was my main man back then. But all of sudden he got all grown up and started appearing in all these great movies, formed a band (Dead Man’s Bones), and stole my heart along the way… along with millions of other girls. ♡

Happy Birthday Ryan Gosling!

Are you ponies fans of the Gos too? If so, what are some of your favorite Ryan Gosling flicks? Mine are Blue Valentine, Half Nelson, Remember the Titans, Lars and the Real Girl, and Crazy, Stupid Love. Oh, and do you guys remember when he was Young Hercules? – insert laughing emoji here –

Cheers,
Nina

Toy Story 4 is happening and Rashida Jones is going to be a writer! I’m totally okay having a Toy Story movie come out every decade of my life. Just sayin’, John Lassester.

Which 90’s Nickelodeon Game Show Would You Have Conquered? According to this I would’ve kicked ass at Legends of the Hidden Temple, which was my favorite, but the Temple guards would’ve seriously given me so much anxiety!

♥ How has Idris Elba saved your life? Buzzfeed lists the 15 times he’s saved you.

♥ My Dark Side Sister Nami shares photos from her trip to London and other parts of the UK  and everything looks so beautiful! And she even got to hangout with a rock star and visit the set of the new Star Wars movie (no pics for that though, obviously). She’s that awesome.

♥ “All About That Bass” gets a Star Wars make-over via Team Unicorn’s parody “All About That Base: No Rebels”

♥ Artist Austin Light’s sketches show how your favorite movies become something entirely different when one letter is taken out of the title.

♥ I followed this easy-peasy recipe to make Franken Berry and Boo Berry krispie treats for a Halloween party at work. It’ll work for just about any cereal 🙂

♥ My friend from high school, Monica, wrote about how she didn’t shave her body for 18 months and what she learned from it. I got to see her progress as she posted pictures on Facebook over the last few years and she’s absolutely inspiring.

Cheers,
Nina
