Dinos and Mammoths and Sloths, Oh my!

I meant to share pictures of my trip to the San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat) ages ago, and by ages I mean not too long after my last outfit post… whoops! As usual, I’ve been occupied by both jobs (booo for being an adult!), then Tim and I celebrated our two-year anniversary on the 21st by going to the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, annnnd we also watched the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special on Monday IN A MOVIE THEATER! OMG, it was bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

So you can probably expect to see a post about the Academy of Sciences next month. Haha! Just kidding… or am I?

Anyhow, The Nat was full of amazing things like dinosaurs and lizard skulls that looked like dragons and Pokemon! We even watched a 3D movie about dinosaurs. I remember there was a little girl talking to the screen saying things like, “Oh, it’s my favorite!” and “Hello, dinosaur! I want to take it home!” Tim also found us a homey little cave to dwell in (pictured below). If you’re ever in San Diego, The Nat is definitely worth a visit, particularly if you’re fond of dinosaurs and animals in general.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures from my trip! And I also hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow, that is if you happen to celebrate it. If not, I hope your day is full of awesome! 🙂

Cheers,
Nina

If at first you don’t succeed…

Well… I didn’t find much success at yesterday’s craft faire. To be honest, my expectations weren’t too high. I had never been to Rio Linda before until after dropping off my application in person at the Community Center last week. It’s a small town, from what I saw it kind of had a Pawnee (from Parks & Recreation) vibe. I wasn’t too sure if there’d be many geeky folks in attendance, so I made tons of Downton Abbey necklaces just in case since that’s the least geekiest thing I have in my inventory.  I still hoped to sell at least a few necklaces there… five at the least. Technically, I did reach my goal. Tim and his bff/roomie Sam bought two necklaces each the night before when we were doing inventory and then I sold one at the faire — the 10th Doctor with a kitty cat >^__^<

I don’t feel completely defeated by it though. I don’t think all the prep work I did days beforehand were for naught (holy crap, did I bust my ass working on getting things ready for this faire!). It was an interesting experience, and I did get some interest from a few  people that actually knew where my things were from (Once Upon a Time, Doctor Who, Ron Swanson, etc)!

I’m still surprised that only one person took me up on my free candy offer though. Just take my left over Halloween candy, people! o__0

I’m hoping to open up my Etsy store again this coming weekend. I’ll let you all know when it’s ready to go! And in the meantime, I’m going to look into vending at places where my goods will appeal to a bigger majority of the audience in attendance. 🙂

Cheers,
Nina

PS: A big ‘ol shout out to Tim and my mom for helping me out! Thank you both immensely for supporting me and my crafty endeavors 😀

Rio Linda Craft Faire

Hey my little ponies! So this is super short notice, buuuut today I’m going to be selling my geeky baubles at the Rio Linda arts and crafts faire!!! I’m excited and full of panic all at once! AAH!

Good grief, could I use any more exclamation points?

Anywho, if any of you awesome ponies live within the area I would love it if you stopped by to say hello. I’ll be set up somewhere outside… just look for the girl with all the geeky stuff on her table 😀

Follow me on Instagram to see updates!

Cheers,
Nina

PS: I’ll be re-launching my Etsy store sometime after the faire!

Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey

outfit details – blazer: Living Doll  // dress: ModCloth (buy here) // belt: Xhileration // shoes: BOBS (buy here)  // ring: Francesca // bag: Coach // Adipose keychain: Underground Toys (buy here) // necklace: made by me

When Tim and I made plans on what to do during our short time in San Diego we decided to hit one museum amongst all the restaurants we talked about eating at (yes, I plan trips based on food). I suggested going to the Natural History Museum (the Nat) because they have dinosaurs! And as everyone knows, dinosaurs are AWESOME. Isn’t it amazing that these ginormous creatures roamed the earth long before mankind even existed? The fossils and dinosaur models were hands down my favorite part of the Nat. I’ll share more pictures of my adventure there with all the other neat things I saw in the next post. 🙂

Whenever I go somewhere special, I like to dress in theme. My galaxy dress from ModCloth seemed like an appropriate thing to wear despite the fact that there wasn’t a planetarium or anything. Like, what does the galaxy have to do with what’s at the Nat? Oh, I don’t know. But one time when I wore this dress to work, a customer said she really liked it and that it was very “timey wimey” — a Whovian reference! And there was an episode of Doctor Who called “Dinosaurs On a Spaceship” last season, so BAM! There’s the connection. I also paired it with my 11th Doctor necklace and TARDIS blue ballet flats. Tim was also quite Who-y that day as he wore his Silence vs. Weeping Angels shirt too (pictured below).

This is probably the most epic dress that I own! On our way to brunch before going to the Nat, a guy walked out of another restaurant just to tell me how awesome my dress was 😀

You might remember my dress from this outfit post I did back in August too.

Do you like to dress in theme whenever you go out to fun places too?

Cheers,
Nina

I go “Vwooomp, vwooomp”!

outfit details – dress & headband: Her Universe // boots: Madden Girl // top: Heart & Soul // bow clip: Forever 21 // earrings: made by me // 11th Doctor plush: Underground Toys

I was the TARDIS from Doctor Who for Halloween! Just in case you’re not familiar with Doctor Who, the TARDIS is a space vessel that is shaped like a police call box that travels throughout space and time. It’s also bigger on the inside [insert inappropriate joke here]!

Finding other Whovians or people who at least know what Doctor Who is used to be like finding unicorns: impossibly rare. I was pleasantly surprised that a few students knew, or at least recognized, that my costume was Who related! I got tons of compliments on it from random people too! Later on when I went to Target, some dude asked me if he could take a picture of my costume. And at my other job a dude in a Guy Fawkes mask enthusiastically told me that my costume was “so awesome!” A lot of people tended to just say, “Doctor Who!” whenever they recognized my costume. Normally the hipster nerd in me would be like, “I’m not Doctor Who, I’m the TARDIS!” and go off on a tangent about how the show is called Doctor Who and the Doctor is just the Doctor, but I didn’t even care. I was just happy I didn’t have to explain what I was dressed as too often. 🙂

When I saw that Her Universe was coming out with an a-line TARDIS dress I flipped out. I didn’t initially think “Halloween costume” because I would wear this dress any other day 🙂 But finding it was such a pain! I finally found one last week at Hot Topic and got the last one in my size along with the TARDIS headband. And they had a BOGO sale going on! SCORE!

I started to have doubts about dressing up as the TARDIS though since I wasn’t sure about what else I could add to it. I envisioned wearing a white frilly top underneath with a bow tie and a petticoat to add extra fluff to the skirt. Can you believe I managed to find this ruffly blouse at the last minute (as in, the night before Halloween)? It also has a bit of a Mary Poppins vibe to it so I can definitely use it for a Mary Disneybound too.

All in all, I’m really quite pleased with my TARDIS costume! Did any of you dress up too?

Cheers,
Nina
