GQMF

le fancy nerd

Every time Shanice and I go shopping and pass by the men’s department, we always say, “Damn, I really want to help a guy go shopping!” And Jen and I always talk about how nice it must be to be a guy because they don’t have to worry about dresses and skirts — they just have simple things like trousers, jeans, sweaters, vests, blazers, ties, etc. I absolutely adore menswear. I’d honestly rather flip through an issue of GQ rather than Vogue or some other women’s fashion magazine because guys just get to wear really amazing things.

I’ve told Tim every now and then (before we got together) that if he ever needed help shopping for clothes to let me know because I just really want to help a man buy clothes. He trusts my tastes in things since I helped him find a pair of comfy, yet stylish, shoes for his trip to Europe last year at Aldo. Tim finally asked if I would help him pick out clothes, and I was like, “YES! I’ve been asking you to let me help you go shopping for how long???”

Here's a better view of the herringbone elbow patches

On Saturday we went to Modesto to go to the Build-A-Bear Workshop (more on that later), and afterwards we went to H&M. I like Tim’s personal style, but I’ve seen him dress fancy before and he looks goooood. So I was like a kid in a candy store sorting through all the button-up shirts, jackets, and sweaters that I thought would make him look like a GQMF (GQ Mother F*cker, in case you didn’t know). There were a few things I picked out that looked better on the hanger, but I found a really nice crew neck sweater with herringbone elbow patches and two patterned button-up shirts that he could wear under them, a pair of grey trousers, and a cranberry v-neck sweater [not pictured]. We still need to find a dark gray button-up to go under that.

I think I did a good job. πŸ˜€

Le Fancy Geek & Nerd

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and weekend! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. — I’ve been busy with holiday/family stuff and having epic adventures with my boyfriend, Tim. <— holy shit! For those who’ve been reading my blog for awhile, Tim has made an appearance every now and then since we hang out so damn much. He’s my bestest friend, but things changed about a week ago, and it was all very unexpected. And that’s all I’m going to say about that because I don’t see the need to elaborate on the mushy details. πŸ™‚

But I just wanted to show off how snazzy we looked on Thanksgiving!

Things I Bought That I Love: Chocolate Mint Milk and Holiday Disney Thingies

I don’t think I can say this enough: TARGET IS THE SH!T. I love Target. If I could only shop at one store for the rest of my life, it would be Target because they have everything. Hmm… I’m sensing a bit of deja vu. Have I written these exact sentences in another post before? Most likely, I wouldn’t be surprised. <– ramble ramble.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I saw cartons of limited edition holiday milk flavors including egg nogg (eh), red velvet chocolate, and chocolate mint. Naturally, I bought the red velvet and the chocolate mint milk AND a Minnie Mouse sippy cup to drink it out of. Target has pretty swanky Disney Holiday/Christmas swag right now too — mostly housewares like plates, salt & pepper shakers, cups, bowls, and some Mickey and Minnie tees. It’s so AMAZEBALLS!!! Shanice was kind enough to buy a Minnie Mouse shirt for me. πŸ™‚

The red velvet chocolate milk is so-so — I mean, it’s tasty and all, but it really just tastes like regular chocolate milk, just slightly sweeter. The mint one, however, tastes like cold melted Andes candies. Have you ever had an Andes mint chocolate candy? Gaah… so good. *drool*

PS: Yes, I totally copied Mindy Kaling’s “Things I Bought That I Love” thing. Whatever. x__x

The Burpateer

I wasn't sure if I matched or not before I headed out the house, but I think this ensemble turned out quite cute.

I’ve had this urge to watch The Rocketeer for over a year — it’s a childhood favorite of mine and I had the biggest crush on Cliff Secord (played by Billy Campbell). Did you know that The Rocketeer celebrated its 20th anniversary this year? God, I feel sooooo old. Anyway, when I went to Rasputin (a used music/movie store) with Tim yesterday and found it for $8, I was SO EFFING EXCITED. I even did a little happy dance! I also found a copy of Remember the Titans, which is what I originally wanted to go to Rasputin for (and also because Tim said he almost bought 101 Dalmatians the day before and I demanded that he buy it). Afterwards we headed to Target to grab some A&W Cream Soda for our burping contest… I know, we are so classy. I kicked Tim’s ass by the way. Hehe.

Alan Arkin was in the this movie too, and he has hair! Terry O'Quinn was also in it, and he had hair as well! It was so weird. x___x

Tim had never heard of The Rocketeer and I was so appalled (or shocked, whichever sounds better), so I made him watch it. I was a bit worried that it was going to suck because you know how when you revisit things from your childhood, like movies and TV shows, you have all these high expectations, but then when you re-watch them they suck and suddenly it feels like your childhood was a complete sham? Yeah… thank God The Rocketeer holds up. It’s a cult classic for a reason!

I finally got to watch Crazy Stupid Love too, which was pretty good. I spent most of it saying, “Uh… lucky bitch. I hate her!” <– referring to how Emma Stone got to cuddle with Ryan Gosling. And I’m confused by how Ryan Gosling was able to make eating pizza look incredibly sexy. I mean, look:

Do you get? I don’t get it.

Pizza with sausage. Om nom nom.

So yep, that was my Sunday.

Oh yeah, I also sold 2 necklaces yesterday! πŸ˜€

Top 5: A Few of My Favorite Things Edition

I’ve had “A Few of My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music stuck in my head for about an hour, so I thought, “Hmm, why not do a top 5 thingy of my current favorite things on my blog.” So very High Fidelity (and unoriginal) if I do say so myself.

1. Pullovers

I LOVE pullovers. I’m surprised I haven’t done a post completely dedicated to my growing collection yet. They’re just so nice and comfy and you can dress them up, or down. I particularly like the graphic ones, especially if there’s a Disney character on it! Jen bought this super adorable Winnie the Pooh one for me (because she’s just rad like that) the other day. Forever 21 has a plethora of cute pullovers, I can’t stand it!

2. Jammie Dodgers

I didn’t even know what the hell a Jammie Dodger was until the 11th Doctor tried to fight the Daleks off with one in Doctor Who last year. And I found them at World Market a few weeks ago. At first I thought it tasted bland, but the more I ate, the more I liked it. I like eating them with tea. It makes me feel British.

3. Dead Man’s Bones/Ryan Gosling

I’ve been listening to a lot of Dead Man’s Bones lately (Ryan Gosling’s band with Zach Shields). They only have one album out that was released a couple years ago. Dead Man’s Bones I guess could be called “indie macabre” as their sound and songs subject matter are quite eerie. My mom heard some of it and said, “You like weird music” and “This sounds emo.” *shoulder shrug*

Tim and I are currently crushing really hard on Ryan Gosling aka “Baby Goose.” I mean, who isn’t? We’re competing over who will have his accidental babies first (even though he has no idea we exist, and Tim is a straight guy and can’t procreate with another man because it’s physically impossible). I never thought I’d ever fight over a man with my best guy friend. x__x

4. Once Upon a Time

When I first saw a preview for Once Upon a Time (while watching the last Harry Potter movie) I thought, “OH MY GOD, THEY’RE RIPPING OFF FABLES!” In case you’re not familiar, Fables is a really awesome graphic novel series about fairytale characters thriving in the real world in their own community after being forced out of their Homelands by a power called The Adversary. Anywho, I looked into Once Upon a Time a bit more, and saw that it wasn’t exactly the same and actually seemed interesting. Now I anticipate every Sunday to come see what’s going to happen! And Jamie Dorman as the Sheriff… *droolz*

5. Mindy Kaling

I have a girlcrush on Mindy Kaling. I don’t watch The Office religiously, and I haven’t read her book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) yet (I’m dying to get it though!), but I follow her on Twitter and read her blog, and I just feel like her and I need to be BFFs immediately. I mean, she and I love jeggings. We don’t know what real pants feel like anymore. Is that weird? Yeah, that’s probably weird. I mean, the thing about me wanting to be her BFF even though I don’t watch the show she stars and writes for all the time. Not the the thing about the jeggings. Those things rule, they’re not weird. She’d probably think I’m weird though. Damn.

PS: I am so overwhelmed with the response I got from my Rapunzel giveaway! I’m glad you’re all interested and thanks so much for participating and following my ‘lil ‘ol blog. πŸ˜€

Walrus of the Sea

Today is my best friend Jen’s birthday! WOOOO!

She would kick my ass if I posted a picture of her on here, so instead, to honor her on her special day, I am shamelessly plugging her fantastically awesome Etsy store Walrus of the Sea where she sells nifty hair bows and knitted goods all handmade by her.

In the picture above I am wearing this bow:

Here are a few of my other favorites from her store:

This one is TARDIS blue and the gold is quite reminiscent of regeneration residue. πŸ™‚

When we picked out fabric for Rory’s bow ties (which can be seen here), I REALLY wanted this fabric. But alas, I picked a paisley for him instead.

Bit bigger than the other bows, but just as cute.

Jen also makes fingerless gloves out of bamboo silk yarn. There aren’t any listed currently, but keep an out for those! She made me a pair of purple ones and they are all kinds of cozy.

Happy Birthday Jen! πŸ˜€

Sick Puppy

I took this picture with Rory a couple hours before his puking palooza.

MY BABY IS SICK! D:

Yes, this means another non-fashiony-related post. Bear with me.

Yesterday Rory started throwing up after I gave him a treat for pooping on his potty pad (’cause that’s what you’re supposed to do when they do their business in the right spot, y’know?). We thought he would be okay, but he would NOT STOP PUKING.

I tried calling our regular vet since their business card says they’re open on Sundays (with an appointment only), but when I called and asked if I could come in, they were like, “Sorry, we’re closed today.” If you’re closed, then what the hell are you doing there answering the phone???

So my mom and I went to the emergency vet where he had a parvo test (twas negative, thank –insert deity-), an x-ray, and was injected with fluids. The doctor was saying how there were some odd bits in his x-ray.

Rory’s insides!

I guess he has a lot of gassy stuff going on, which isn’t normal, and they think there might be some foreign body thing in there. To be honest, I’m a bit confused as to what’s going on because the whole time I was at the emergency vet, I was silently freaking out and could only process words like “he might need surgery.” And my mom and I were there for HOURS since we had to wait to hear from the radiologist about the x-ray. We never heard from him. Or her. I’ll just assume it’s a him because boys are full of disappointment. >_<

But he’s doing fine now, he hasn’t puked since we brought him to the vet. He’s eating again and is back to his mischievous old self. *wipes sweat off forehead*

His whole treatment basically cost the same amount as an Annual Pass to Disneyland. D:

This gif pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole situation:

I’m taking him to his regular vet for a check-up. I’m quite sure my little companion is going to be okay. πŸ™‚
