The Batcave

Check it out, an OOTD (outfit of the day) shot in my newly painted batcave… er, I mean room!

As I posted last week, my dad and I painted my room purple. I really love the way it turned out, and my room actually feels like a room — like I actually feel like I live here now. Before it was just a big nasty mess and I was all kinds of overwhelmed. When I moved to Daly City 2 years ago I got to start with a blank canvas so it was easy to arrange things and keep my room clean over there. When I moved back to my parent’s house in Stockton, my room was a complete disaster as it turned into a storage facility of sorts. There are still some excess boxes with micellaneous items I need to sort through, but other than that, my room looks pretty fucking sweet.

Rory’s bed was originally in the spot where I’m standing in my OOTD pic, but he just really digs hanging out under my bed. Last night he whined a bit, so I let him sleep by me instead. It was quite nice to have something cuddly and furry snuggled next to me. πŸ˜€

Does anyone remember that show MTV used to have called Room Raiders, where 3 people get kidnapped from their homes and some random person goes in and inspects their rooms to determine who go they wanna go on a date with based on the contents of their rooms?<– long ass sentence. All the guys tended to say the girls who still had toys in their rooms were probably really juvenile and they always got the heave-ho. And some have said that girls who own too many purses must have emotional baggage or some horse crap like that. Needless to say, those bag hags got the heave-ho too.

Based on the contents of my room, I would TOTALLY not get a date. If I were a contestant on that show, some dude would be like, “Who the hell lives here? A 12 year-old?” No boy has set foot in my room, sans my homie Tim, and I still ain’t gettin’ no dates, so… um… yeah. x___x

Can you find my Doctor action figure dangling from one of my necklaces?

Star Wars + Audrey Hepburn + Elizabeth Taylor… I call my blog Le Fancy Geek for a reason, y’know.

All my Disney movies fit on one shelf! I’m weird in the way I organize my books and movies — nothing is in alphabetical order (except for my TV DVDs), but I do try to keep things together based on genre.

My fancy vintage typewriter has William Blake’s “A Poison Tree” typed out on the piece of paper that’s in it. ‘Tis one of my favorites. Y’all should Google it. Oh, and CHECK OUT MY SWEET ASS SONIC SCREWDRIVER COLLECTION. And my Dalek coin bank keeps my monies safe.

I just need to buy some frames for my Mike Maihack prints (Poison Ivy, Batgirl, and Wolverine having a tea party) that I picked up at Comic Con and find some other things to hang up on my walls and I’ll be all set.

My room is basically an outward reflection of my personality, and as you can see I’m nerdtastically rad. πŸ˜€

Welcome Home, Rory!

Saturday was quite a momentous day as I finally got to bring my little fluffaluffagus, Rory, home! I spent a good 2 days trying to get my room organized, and the purple paint job my dad and I did last week turned out really well… more on that some other day though. I picked Rory up around 5ish. He was the first of the litter to go home, all the puppies were causing a commotion and his mama kept jumping on me like, “Bitch, what the hell are you doing with my baby?!”

Once I put him in his booster seat he cried the whole way home and it frakin’ broke my heart! And since the harness I got didn’t fit him, he wasn’t completely secure in his seat, so I had one hand on the wheel and one on him (except for when doing turns, ’cause that shiz is dangerous!).

Rory had a lot of visitors when he came too! My aunts from the bay area were there to greet him, and they gave me a pack of peepee pads (now I have an endless supply of peepee pads!). After they left, Tim came along and brought Winnie the Pooh sugar cookies to celebrate, and then Jen came in tow with the bow ties she made for him. And she made them all in one day! πŸ™‚

I noticed that Rory likes hiding in dark places — when we brought him to the kitchen he immediately hid under the microwave stand, and in my room he first went underneath my vanity, and then he made the bottom of my bed his bat cave. I even stuck his bed under there. πŸ™‚

This morning my internal alarm went off at 3 am and Rory was up and about, and I fed him since he didn’t eat a lot yesterday. Somehow I managed to get him to take a poop on the peepee pad, but completely FAILED at making him pee on it. He was SO close to the pad too! *sigh* My mom came in my room around 6 and took him downstairs so I could sleep. Isn’t she nice?

I’m not gonna lie — these past few days have been slightly stressful as I try to teach him the ins and outs and figure out this potty training business, but I think this is whole experience is going to be good for me. It’s nice to have this puppy to take care of and love unconditionally. He is the only man whose shit I wanna deal with (literally and figuratively). πŸ™‚

Oi, I’m so groggy. I’m gonna go see some tea about this.

Project Bow Tie

I guess this is my go-to pose when someone else is taking a picture of me. :/

Anyway, yesterday was quite eventful as I ventured off to a side of Stockton I rarely go to to pick up Shanice! She’s not my first non-familial, non-driving instructor passenger, but she is the first friend I drove with on the freeway. Crazy crap. In case you don’t know, I have always had major anxiety issues about driving, I’ve put off getting my license for so many years and finally got it last year… but only started driving around by myself for nearly a month.

After grabbing lunch and shopping around Target and Ross for a bit, we met up with Jen at JoAnn’s. Jen offered to make Rory a bunch of bow ties, so we checked out some remnants and swatches for cute patterns, which you can check out in the video below:

I’m still kinda iffy about my final decision on the green fabric. >__<

Rory is coming home tomorrow! I’ve prepped his bed, went shopping with Auntie Nelly and got a crap ton of things (crate, booster seat (lulz!), treats, etc). Tonight I’m rearranging my room and hanging out with Rory’s god father.

Expect tons of Rory posts in the near future. πŸ˜€

Purple Stuff

courtesy of saucyhelp.livejournal.com

Tomorrow I’m heading back to Lowes with my dad to pick up some spackle and purple paint! I’m hella excited to paint over the dreary white walls in my Fortress of Solitude — they’re kinda icky looking since they have tons of thumbtack holes and sticky tape residue from the days my sister and I wallpapered the place with *NSYNC pinups. Haha…

I’ve been on the fence about my color choices though. I figured that the slightly darker purple shade would mostly be covered by my dresser and bookshelf, but my mom told me she thinks that it’s all a bit too My Little Pony-ish. And you know what? She was dead on…

I bought that My Little Pony a few years ago because I felt if I were a MLP, I would look like that. πŸ™‚

My mom suggested that I keep one of the purples (I like the one on the left) and then paint one wall eggplant so it won’t look so overwhelming since both shades are quite similar.

I’m hoping to find a shade of eggplant like this:

I’ve never had a crazy colored room before, so I’ve been Googling to see how others have decorated their purple rooms and I’m totally loving the antique gold frames/mustardy yellow accents in the examples pictured above. My comforter is magenta with dark purple, green, and orange accents so I’m focusing on that bit.

You know how Target has that special Missoni collection that is flying off the shelves like crazy (which I find weird since I only think a handful of the things are cute)? They have this floral shower curtain that I want to get to close off my closet since it doesn’t have a doors. I don’t know if it’s vinyl or nylon, but if it’s nylon I think it’d be perfect! The curtain I have covering my closet is kinda fug (white with a beige leaf print thing… I didn’t put it there, it all happened when I moved to Daly City!), I want to find something that fits in with the purple, magenta, green scheme. I want the Missoni comforter that’s the same print as the shower curtain, but it’s $99.99 so I’m gonna have to pass. 😦

I’ve been drooling over this Kurt Halsey poster for damn near 2 years! It’s on sale at Art Star Philly for cheapsies, so I think I’m gonna have to pick it up really soon. I think this would look nice over my vanity or near my bed.

So many changes are about to happen — my room’s getting a facelift and then my baby’s coming home! AHHH!!! I’m all anxious now. Thank God my professor gave everyone one “late” pass to use on any assignment. Our first big essay is coming up and I’m kinda worried that all this make-over, puppy prepping stuff might get in the way. o___0

Puppy Wishlist

Rory shall be coming home to me next weekend! I would’ve taken him this week, but my room is not prepared for him yet. It still looks as if H&M, Target, Forever 21, and a few bookstores had a drunken sleepover and upchucked all over the place. And I need to paint the walls too. Yesterday I went to Lowes and picked up a couple of purple paint samples and painted a bit on my wall. I like them, but I’m just wondering if I might want to check out some light green paints too. Decisions, decisions. Bleh.

Anywho, over the last few weeks I’ve been going to PetSmart, Target, and Ross to grab things for Rory like food/water bowls, grooming stuff (I found a kit for $7 at Ross!), shampoo, puppy treats, toys, collars (the one I got him is too big so I had to return it), retractable leash, poopy bags, peepee pads, etc. I still need a crapload of other things though.

I’ve been saying that I want to throw a puppy shower (like a baby shower, but for a dog), but I figured no one would take me seriously. I told Marquis about it and he was like, “Yeah, no. I would not go to your puppy shower.” Thanks a lot, friend! But last week when I saw my Uncle Cesar he said I should throw one, and I didn’t even tell him I wanted to do one, he just came up with it on his own. πŸ˜€

I don’t think a puppy shower is gonna happen though. 😦

But here’s a list of things I need/want to get for my puppy:

  • crate (maybe a medium sized one so he has a bit of leg room)
  • chew toys
  • dental care stuff
  • food (I need to find out what his caretakers are feeding him)
  • nail file
  • and fun stuff…

Bow tie collar from Pecan Pie Puppy. Because bow ties are cool. I also like this one and this one.

Fancy dog tag from Urban Puppy.

Optimus Prime dog shirt. I seriously gasped when I saw this shirt at PetSmart. I didn’t realize it would be SO EFFING HARD to find geeky dog gear. You’d think there would be an abundance of Star Wars shirts and things of that nature for pups, but nooo.

Plaid harness from Urban Pup. I don’t care for the hat, I just really dig this harness. πŸ™‚

And of course, an argyle sweater, also from Urban Pup. I have always wanted an argyle clad puppy since I was, oh, I don’t know… 16? MY DREAMS WILL SOON BE REALIZED. πŸ˜€

There’s a bunch of other things I want as well. And I gotta buy some stuff to ward off fleas and ticks and whatnot. Do any of you have dogs or have had dogs? What kind of stuff do you recommend I get?

The Great Indoors

Today I hung out with my friend, Marquis, who I haven’t seen in a very, very long time, and who I’ve known for a very, very long time (we met in 7th grade which was damn near 12-13 years ago). We drove a few towns over to Manteca to eat at Red Robbins since the one in Stockton shut down a few years ago. Plus there’s really not a whole lot to do in Stockton. We have two malls, both are only one-story and they are right across the street from each other. Isn’t that sad? We eventually ended up going to one of them though. o___0

I saw that the Bass Pro Shop was right across the street from Red Robbins and I was like, “OH MY GOD, CAN WE GO?” That store is like Disneyland for those with a great love for fishing, camping, and hunting. I love none of the former, though I’m interested in going camping again one day, but I went to the one in Rancho Cucamonga last year and I was pretty amused. Did you know you can sit in the boats they have inside? And yes, that store is big enough to hold multiple boats. The store also sells clothes, shoes, jewelry, toys, and it even has an archery range, a couple of shooting arcades, and a fudge shoppe and delicious licorice… and now I’m wondering why I left empty handed. :/

While there, I noticed that parts of my outfit kind of fit in with the store — my plaid shirt and compass necklace. I would never go explore the outdoors in ballet flats. x__x

The entrance to the store is decorated with antlers and two taxidermy Bambis, which I think looks cool, but at the same time I’mΒ  like, “Holy sh!t, Bambi and his friends died for this!” I know deer are overpopulated and have ticks and carry Lyme disease and whatever, but it’s still sad. And the store is basically a menagerie of stuffed animals, so if you can’t handle that kind of stuff, you probably shouldn’t check out the store.

Random Nina fact: Deers rank among my top 5 favorite animals.

  1. Puppies
  2. Ponies
  3. Deer
  4. Pandas
  5. Penguins <– #5 is sometimes switched between tigers and otters

Anywho, I found a couple of interesting BBQ sauces at the Bass Pro Shop too:

Why didn’t I buy them???

So, this store was basically the highlight of mine and Marquis’ reunion. Afterwards we headed the mall in Stockton so he could return some shoes, and he had to wait for me while I looked around Forever 21. Haha! We thought about going to watch a movie, but nothing interesting is out right now, so we went to Toys ‘R Us (my suggestion, naturally) and TJ Maxx (also my suggestion). I found a cute bone-shaped houndstooth printed doggy poo bag dispenser for $4! If I’m going to start picking up dog crap, I might as well do it in style.

So yeah… that was my day! πŸ™‚

DIY Binge

When I was little, my Auntie Nelly brought home a box of beads from a craft store for my sister and I to make stuff with. I made a tiny wreath with pink plastic beads and silver roses, and I think I even added some teal and purple beads in there too (what did I know?!). And for my 9th birthday I got a super rad Pocahontas jewelry making kit! When I went to school with my new creations, some of the girls in my class asked me to make them stuff — even the ones that bullied me. The nerve, right?! I made one of them earrings anyway to make her leave me alone. That worked out in my favor. πŸ˜€

Making jewelry has always been a hobby of mine. In the last few years I’ve made necklaces with the intention of selling them, but I always found myself becoming attached to them, so I just kept them for myself. In short, I have never sold any of my creations. x___x

It’s been awhile since I’ve made anything, but this week I managed to crank out a few items! When I got my bosun whistle last weekend, I also bought a few loose pendants, one of them was a gold teddy bear that opens up and contains some waxy smelly granny perfume. I must get rid of that stuff! Anyway, I took a gold chain necklace I’ve had for years and made an uber fancy one with the bear pendant and a few other baubles (pictured above). Here’s a close-up of the teddy bear:

Sorry, the macro on my camera is a bit meh.

I’m trying not to get too attached to this piece, but it’s kind of hard because I really like the way it turned out, and I totally slaved away in the garage (which is hotter than Satan’s bumhole) for HOURS until I finally felt that it looked right. RUGH.

Anywho, I made a few other things this week too (I apologize for the craptastic quality of the following pictures):

Mozart pendant made out of chandelier crystal/teardrop crystal pendant. Whatever you wanna call it. Last year when Auntie Nelly went to Austria she brought back some chocolate with this Mozart design and I kept them because I thought, “Hey, I can do something with this someday.” And voila! I plan on adding a brass chain a some Swarovski baubles to it. I shall post the finished product here when it’s… well, done.

White Rabbit chandelier crystal pendant attached to brass necklace chain. I made the pendant last March out of boredom but could never find the right chain to go with it. I finally found one last week and I’m uber happy with the way it turned out. The White Rabbit image came from one of my tear-away desk calendars.

I made these earrings with these plastic pendants I found in a some randomly put together packets at some bead store in Berkeley (can’t remember the name of it though). I wanted to add little crystals beads to dangle at the bottom, but I think they look fine the way they are. I have a yellow pendant like this too, but since there’s only one I’m gonna have to settle on just making a necklace with it.

It’s nice to have this sort of creative outlet as writing stories is at a bit of a standstill for me. However, I recently came up with an idea for a zombie story and have been jotting down notes and doing a bit of research (I’m really not into zombies, but this idea came out of nowhere and I felt the need to run with it) so hopefully that’ll eventually come along. Plus Tim and I made a *high five promise — he has to write more songs, and I have to write more stories. I’m just having a hard time trying to figure out the direction I want to go in for the story — third person, first person, serious or campy, etc. AH! I think it’s time for me to bust out my old Creative Writing class’ writing exercises.

*high five promise is the new pinky swear.

The Many Adventures of Doctor Pooh

Have you ever felt that something was made specifically for you and you alone? That’s basically how I felt when I saw Rob Wood’s Doctor Pooh t-shirt design on aΒ  blustery day in March. Tim and I watched The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and proceeded to have a Doctor Who marathon, and while browsing the Doctor Who subreddit (on Reddit) Tim saw this Doctor Who x Winnie the Pooh design that was up for voting on some site called Qwertee (it’s like TeeFury and RIPT where one design is sold for 24 hours and gone forever the next day, only it’s based in the Europe). I couldn’t stop staring at it. And how serendipitous was it that we found it the day we watched Winnie the Pooh AND Doctor Who?!

I Googled “Doctor Pooh shirt” to see if there were any other sites that might be selling it for I didn’t want to have to wait for Qrwtee to possibly print the shirt, and even if they did, I didn’t want to pay for international shipping either. And alas! I found it on RedBubble!Β  I drooled over it for MONTHS. I finally ordered a shirt in June hoping that it would come in time for my Disneyland trip. My goal was take a picture with Pooh Bear while wearing it, and that goal still remains as I didn’t get the shirt in time. Oh bother!

The fun thing about ordering shirts on RedBubble is that you pick whatever style and color you want the shirt in. When I saw that there was a v-neck option, I jumped all over that shiz! You can even order a design on a hoodie. The only thing is that they’re a bit pricey, but SO WORTH IT. I mean, look at my Doctor Pooh shirt. IT’S AMAZING and I am utterly happy about it.

There’s all kinds of nerdtastic goodies on RedBubble, so if you love Doctor Who, Star Wars, Scott Pilgrim, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or just about anything else that goes along with the nerd realm, then you should definitely check out RedBubble. πŸ˜€

O Captain! My Captain [Von Trapp]!

Last night I came across the True Birds website and saw that they have a functional bosun whistle necklace, just like the one Captain Von Trapp uses in The Sound of Music — which happens to be one of my most favorite films of all time! I’ve always wanted a whistle like the one the Captain had, and I pretty much stared at it for an hour and wondered how I could bring it up to my mother since she’s been asking me what I want for Christmas. But there’s no need for that anymore. I went to the flea market this morning and friggin found a bosun whistle for $2!!! It’s fate, I tell you! FATE! It’s a bit bigger than True Bird’s, but hey, it was two bucks. I couldn’t pass it up. πŸ˜€

I’m not too crazy about the gold chain it came with, so I plan I heading to the craft store to find a brassy chain to replace it with. Other than that, I’m all kinds of happy about this flea market find!!! Flea markets are always exciting because you never know what you’re gonna find.

Now I have to find a Sound of Music-y outfit to wear this necklace with!
