Little Miss _____

Yesterday I randomly bumped into my cousin Celeste after running some errands around campus, so I decided to invite myself over to visit with her, my cousin Cynthia, and the kiddies! I ended up helping my niece Isabelle with her homework by reading Little Miss Star three times. I remember my cousin Amanda had tons of Little Miss and Mr Men books when we were little. One time my mom bought me a Mr. Happy book and little plush toy because I was being cranky, so she thought it would help me get happy. 🙂

I also some Lego Star Wars book for Jacob, and  Skippyjon Jones and the Big Bones. That book is ridiculous and kinda weird to read out loud. I gave Lily a are-you-effing-serious look when she asked me to read it again, but then her sister came by and swept her away to play. *phew*

Tonight I was supposed to go to the Edgar Wright Q&A and triple feature (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, buuut I hit some snafu (original buddy I was going with got sick, couldn’t find someone else to go with, and I have no way of getting to SF by myself) so I decided the whole thing was a bust. Good news is I was able to make it so that Heather could get my tickets (I had the tickets at will call and they’re all strict about who picks them up).

I’m  bummed that I’m not going anymore, but I figure the money I put towards my ticket will now go to my Rory fund. Plus I’m supposed to get into some super awesome shinnanigans with my best friend Tim tomorrow. We’re gonna have a SUPER EPIC SCOTT PILGRIM-STAR WARS-DOCTOR WHO-COOKIE BAKING DAY. And we’re also going to see Rory! 😀

Oh yeah, and this bit happened while I was hanging out with Isabelle…

Isabelle: Where did you get that big can of juice (Arizona Kiwi Strawberry)?

Me: At the store.

Isabelle: What store?

Me: The grocery store.

Isabelle: What else do they sell?

Me: Food.

Isabelle: What kind of food?

Me: The kind you eat.

Isabelle: What kind of food do I eat?

Me: Lasagna.

Isabelle: What kind of lasagna?

Me: Italian.

Isabelle: What kind of Italian?

Me: From Italy.

Isabelle: …

Isabelle likes to ask A LOT of questions, which isn’t bad thing, It’s good for kids, and adults, to be curious,  but… /facepalm

Something New (and Blue)!

Hello all! I see that my blog has been collecting digital dust as I haven’t blogged in over 11 days. YIKES!

Since my last post I went back to my old junior college to try to get into a Children’s Literature class (outlook of me getting in looks positive *fingers crossed*). I already finished the first book that was assigned, Skellig by David Almond. I also applied for a retail gig. Searching for a job has been a pain in the arse, but I need something. Anything. I don’t want to say where I applied to as I don’t want to jinx it. And over the weekend my cousin and his wife had a grand wedding ceremony in San Diego (they had a civil service last year).

And you know weddings mean buying new dresses and shoes!

I don’t really wear royal TARDIS blue, I almost got a black and purple dress with a patent grey belt instead, but I REALLY loved the details on this dress. 😀

Anyway, the wedding was awesome (minus the part during the ceremony where the clouds parted and the sun scorched all of us). At the reception all my cousins (that are around my age) were seated at the same table, I got to nerd out about Disneyland (we’re all Disney babies), showed them all pictures of Rory (my puppy has a name now!), drank beer, etc. That night we also went to the after party at some club in the GasLamp. I felt soooooo out of place. All the girls had tight dresses and heels — I wore this dress and a maroon cardigan with pink ballet flats. But my sister, her boyfriend, and I went to a pub called the Hopping Pig afterwards and I had pulled pork sliders, so yay!

Alright, folks. I gotta do some homework. Wow… that just sounds weird. o___O

Still on a Star Wars kick I am

mini lightsaber from McDonalds. =)

While digging through my drawer full of t-shirts (that I hardly ever wear), I found this Star Wars gem that I bought at Super7 nearly 2 years ago. I damn near forgot that I had it! I’m still on a bit of a Star Wars kick, especially since I found out that the SF Giants are having a Star Wars event on September 4! All the seats in the Star Wars section are sold out, but Standing Room tickets are still available. BUT, I don’t have anyone to go with so… 😦

le sigh

I’m not much of a sports fanatic, but I do enjoy going to games (even though I’ve only been to one Giants game… x__x). I’d rather see a sports event live instead of watching one on TV because, to me, that’s just BORING. I think the atmosphere at a game makes it more fun to watch, plus the food is nummy. I just wish my friends would be more interested in going to a game one of these days. AHEM – HINT HINT

Anywho, I don’t have much on my agenda today. I need to finish writing up my Guide to the Whoniverse post for Imaginary Battles, spruce up my resume, and then possibly go dress shopping for my cousin’s wedding, which is next Saturday!

Purple socks to represent Mace Windu’s lightsaber. I don’t skimp on details.

Alright, I’m off to watch some Doctor Who to prep for my Whoniverse article! Maybe I should’ve worn a DW shirt today. I feel weird mixing franchises like this. x___x

Bargain Hunter

I’ve been on a really big Star Wars kick as of late. A couple weeks ago I found this really rad Boba Fett helmet at Target on sale for $10 (originally $40). It was the only one left, and I thought it would look cool on my bookshelf. I couldn’t pass it up! It was too good of a deal. And I’ve been wanting a Stormtrooper action figure for quite some time since I’ve seen people take really amazing pictures of them all over Flickr. Take a gander here. I got my own little Stormtrooper the same day I bought my helmet (and the green shirt I’m wearing pictured above, which was also on sale. SCORE!). I’m not quite sure what to do with him yet. I have some little toys and accessories to use for a silly photo shoot though.

And when I went to Target the other day (I frequent that place a lot, okay?), I found the Funko Star Wars bobble heads! My mom bought Yoda, and I got a Stormtrooper. I dunno why I keep buying things related to the Dark Side. I always thought I was more of a Jedi than a Sith. x___x

I don’t even know where any of our Star Wars DVDs are, or if we even have any! I know my family owns them on VHS, but I’m too lazy to set up my VCR (which is somewhere in the garage). Oh well. At least the whole saga is coming out on DVD/BluRay next month!

Since I can’t find any of the Star Wars DVDs we supposedly own, I’ll just crank this tune while I wear my Boba Fett helmet…

pup life

It’s a boy!

I’m gonna be a mama [to a little puppy]!!!

Last week my dad had me look up different dog breeds after he saw a picture of a Pomsky (Pomeranian/Husky mix), he even asked me if I wanted a dog, which I thought was weird since I always assumed that we just weren’t a pet family (even though I begged for one for YEARS when I was a kid). I think my only issue with having a dog is having to constantly clean its crap. Whenever I’m out and about, I’m always on doodie patrol — meaning, I always watch where I step in case there’s dog poop. Would you believe me if I said I’ve only stepped in dog poop once? Well, it’s true.

Anyway, that same night my dad had me do doggie research, my aunt told me her co-worker’s dog just had puppies and offered one to her. I said I’d think about it since they’re Havamalts (Havanese/Maltese mix) — not exactly my dream dog (I like Mini Schnauzers, Corgis, & French Bulldogs), but then again I didn’t expect my first boyfriend to be a ginger (me gusta dark haired lads).

I did some research, deemed it a good fit and felt that I was ready to take on the responsibility, but figured I needed to meet the puppy before I seriously considered getting it.

So I met the litter today and this little dude was handed to me…

He was such a sweetheart! And he’s pretty tame compared to the other pups. I fell in love immediately. 😀

I’ll probably be able to take him home in two months since he’s still getting fed by his mama, which gives me ample time to figure out this problem: What am I going to name him?

I’ve been toying with naming him after some of my favorite TV characters, such as Rory Williams Pond from Doctor Who or Dr. Simon Tam from Firefly. I really want to name him Rory, but…

  1. I’m not sure if he looks like a Rory. Havamalts are really cutesy, and Rory is a badass.
  2. My dad and grandpa would have a really hard time saying his name.
  3. I might have a hard time saying his name. x___x

My mom keeps saying she likes the name Chuck, as in the nerd turned super-spy that Zachary Levi plays on the show of the same name. She asked me to put the name into consideration, so I have.

I’m leaning towards Simon since he’s a pretty boy, and the dog will end up looking pretty too. It makes sense! But I’ll be visiting him every now and then to better bond with him, so I’ll see what name I think suits him best as I get to know him.

Here are the possible namesakes of my puppy:

What do you think? Do you have any names to suggest? Let me know!

Mission Oxfords: COMPLETE

In high school I was taught to never start any piece of writing with a question because it’s a cheap and uncreative way to pull readers in, but who knew searching for the right pair of shoes would be such a bitch? Seriously! Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been looking for a pair of brown oxfords. Not heeled, or two-toned, just simple, flat and brown (sounds boring, but they’re classic). Every time I would find something, they’d never have my size, or they would have my size but it wasn’t the right color. UGH! But my search finally ended when I went to Target last weekend.

My shoe size varies between 9, 9.5, and 10 because my parents blessed me with their wide-set feet. But with oxfords, 9’s were too small, 10’s were too big, and a 9.5 never seemed to exist. But alas, Target once again proved to me why it’s my favorite store when I found the exact pair I had been searching for.

HUZZAH!
