Nerdvember: Week Three

I nearly didn’t make it all 7 days for week three of Set To Stunning’s Nerdvember challenge/contest, but somehow I managed! Well… day 19 hardly counts, but whatever. I still wore something geeky and documented it. šŸ˜› And you’ll notice I wore something Star Wars inspired for all but one day during week three!

Day 14: Darkside/Hoth

I got picked up from my Airbnb in Anaheim by my aunt, and just hung out at her place. This was the day before Season of the Force kicked off at Disneyland, so I packed my Utinni Bikini Hoth AT-AT dress because I needed something to mark the occasion! Oddly enough, that day was extremely cold. Not like Hoth cold, but cold enough to make me bust out with my parody of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” — mine goes: it’s gettin’ Hoth in hurr (so Hoth!) / so put on some more clothes / I am gettin’ so cold / I’m gonna slice a tauntaun. šŸ˜€ I also paired my outfit with tons of Darkside accessories, including the Princess Leia Alex & Ani bracelet I picked up at the park and the Darth Vader brooch I made.

Day 15: First Order

I planned on wearing my First Order dress by Utinni Bikini weeks in advance for Season of the Force. Darkside swag, all day, err’day. Or, maybe not everyday, but MOST days. šŸ˜€

Day 17: Darth Vader

This day felt sooo long! I flew from San Diego to Sacramento and my dad picked me up to head home to Stockton. By the time I got home, I didn’t want to do a damn thing. But I did wear my favorite Vader pullover all day.

Day 18: R2-D2

I’ve been obsessing over this dress ever since I caught a glance of it on Her Universe’s Instagram page about a month ago. It’s too cute!! It’s only available at Disneyland, so I made it a point to track it down ASAP when I went to the park. I wore this for Wookiee Wednesday and when my friend Brianna passed by me she stopped and said, “Oh my God, I bought that dress at Disneyland too and I almost wore it today!” She even has the same cardigan as me, so we’re gonna plan a day to be super twins!

Day 19: Lazy Star Wars Pajama Day

I woke up with a headache, a sore throat, and a stuffy nose, so I called in sick and stayed home in my Star Wars jammies all day long.

Day 20: Firefly/Serenity

This was a more subtle geeky look since the only geeky thing I’m wearing is my Firefly necklace, by Quantum Mechanix and I also added my Serenity keychain on a purse, also by Quantum Mechanix. Shiny!

Day 21: Star Wars Baddies

This skirt is also by Her Universe and exclusive to Disney parks. It was also an impulse buy because I had no plans to buy it. I just wanted to get an R2 tank at Star Trader and then this skirt just lured me in! It’s really cool, because from afar it looks like a jungle print, but when you give it a closer look, it has silouhettes of Darth Vader, AT-ATs, Tie Fighters, Interceptors, Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, etc.

I can’t believe Nerdvember is almost over! So far it’s showed me that I have way more geeky clothes in my closet than I thought I did. šŸ™‚

cheers

Punch It, Chewie!

Aloha, my little ponies! Hawaii has been pretty damn amazing… except for the millions of mosquito bites I have acquired. Ugh! The mosquitos here can go to hell and die. Other than that, I’ve been having lots of fun with my family! Last weekend I got to attend my cousin Amanda’s wedding to her longtime boyfriend Nick. I’ve never cried or gotten emotional at a wedding, but something about their’s made me ruin my makeup a little bit. I’m so happy for the two of them since this wedding was a long time coming! I jokingly refer to Nick as the big brother I never wanted because he likes to annoy me on purpose and I him. Now all the pressure is on my sister’s boyfriend of nearly 13 years. She even caught the bouquet, so the pressure is even more real. Haha! Sorry, Ryan!

I originally was going to wear this really pretty dress from Heart of Haute with hydrangeas all over it with a black pair of ballet flats, but the weather here has been pouring rainĀ on and off AND it’s also been freakin’ hot and humid. I actually wore this outfit the day before exploring the North Shore and thought it might be better to wear, and it was. –Phew

And you might have noticed that I threw in some Star Wars accessories with this ensemble too. ā˜ŗ

The tealsĀ andĀ blues of theĀ MillenniumĀ Falcon belt I got at Hot Topic matched the teal dress I got from the Old Navy outlet in Livermore, and floral things + sci-fi is mah thang, so pairing it with this cover up I originally got to wear poolside was a no-brainer. I didn’t even mean to pack my Chewbacca ring, but I found him in my carryon as I was unpacking at the hotel. If that’s not kismet, I don’t know what is. The Darth Vader purse by Loungefly was also going to be used with the outfit I intended to wear, but it works with this one too! It looks like it’s small, but it actually holds quite a few things! I was able to stuff my lipstick, chapstick, battery charger + chord, little wallet, my phone, and BB-8 Funko and Stitch Tsum Tsum into it. It’s easily become my new favorite accessory!

Now that I think about it, nearly everything I wore to the wedding was purchased at the outlet in Livermore just a few days before I flew to Hawaii. Hooray for last minute shopping!

I head back to California on Thursday, so for now I’m just going to enjoy the rest of my vacation.Ā More blog posts about Hawaii to come sometime after! But you can follow my Hawaiian Holiday on Instagram if you’d like to see what I’m up to. ā˜ŗ

Geeky Fashion Finds @ SDCC

I can’t believe it’s already been 3 weeks since San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) happened! I feel like I’m still recovering from it and that it only ended a week ago. My suitcase is seriously still hanging out on my bedroom floor and I haven’t unpacked everything yet… except for my dirty clothes which I laundered, of course. <– that’d be so gross if I had a week’s worth of dirty clothes just hanging out. Eww!

Anywho, let’s talk about fun fashion-y geeky things now!

Conventions like SDCC definitely helped influence my personal style ever since I started attending in 2004. Naturally, I’m all kinds of excited to see how fashion targeted towards lady geeks (and dudes, but mostly ladies because I am one — duh!) continues to grow more and more each year!

Fashionable con attendees don’t have to wait until July to fulfill all their geeky fashion needs with stores like Hot Topic, Spencer’s, Torrid, and online retailers such as Think Geek, and the abundance of Etsy stores and indie geek clothiers online like Gold Bubble Clothing that have tons of great fandom related clothes and accessories. But that still doesn’t stop me from looking for brand new geek inspired attire and accessories at SDCC though! šŸ™‚

Well-known geek retailers such as Her Universe and We Love Fine are always a no-brainer when looking for something super cute and nerdy. As you know from a previous post, Her Universe nearly took all my monies! Both companies had two booths this year (2 of which were located in the Star Wars pavilion). I was THIS close to picking up the Han Solo skater skirt (pictured below), but then I stopped myself since my friend already made one for me. And the R2 knitted pullover is something I regret not going home with. – le sigh

Loungefly also had a booth at the Star Wars pavilion with tons of cute coin bags, backpacks, wallets, and purses. They had two exclusive SDCC items this year, one being a sparkly Darth Vader coin bag (which seems more like a wristlet to me) and a hot pink Stormtrooper coin bag. I picked up the sparkly Darth wristlet becauseĀ resistance was futile (I KNOW. Wrong Star franchise reference).

Another great geek fashion line I came across was Lace & Lore. I remember passing by their booth at Anime Expo, but I didn’t get to take a look at them until SDCC. Lace & Lore has tons of fun skater dresses and leggings that are similar to Gold Bubble Clothing and Black Milk Clothing. Some are obviously geek themed such as their pastel pink dress with 20-sided dice printed all over it (I don’t play Dungeons & Dragons, but I want it!), 8-bit hearts, and a few Naruto prints, but there’s also a few designs with kawaii Asian cuisine, donuts, and strawberry shortcake. Everything about their booth made me squeel with delight! From the novelty purses, the sweet pastel hues of their dresses, right down to the decorations of their booth — SO. FLIPPIN’. CUTE. I don’t know what else to say but that.

The one panel that I was able to go to was the Business of Geek Fashion that included Ashely Eckstein of Her Universe, Sara Scargall from We Love Fine, Ed Labay from Hot Topic, Jed Seigle ThinkGeek Solutions, and Arthur Gibree from Sanshee. It was interesting to see how many big name franchises have the licence to create tees and other apparel gearedĀ towards women, but they never did anything with it because they didn’t think there was a market for it. Like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, “Big mistake. Big. HUGE!” There definitely is, and the fashions that are out in stores and online for us geeky fashionistas just keeps growing thanks to those that were on the panel. I also love the fact that Ashley Eckstein specifically stayed away from the color pink in Her Universe’s first few lines to show that us fangirls don’t always want to wear pink. I personally love the color, and Ashley said she did too, but it was very important that the color be used in limited amounts during Her Universe’s early days to stay away from the stereotype.

You can watch the full panel here thanks to the folks of Fashionably Nerdy : Geek Chic TV!

What are some of your favorite companies or stores to shop at for geek apparel that I might not have mentioned? I definitely know I wasn’t able to get everything, so lemme know in the comments section!

Ā cheers

A Shiny Wish List for SDCC

Brace yourselves, COMIC-CON IS COMING.

In the past years I haven’t been a wise shopper. Just because something is “exclusive” doesn’t necessarily mean I must own it, right? I’m going to attempt to be a bit more strict on what I spend my precious monies on this time around, but there are some exclusives that have me doing the heart-eye emoji BIG TIME.

Sparkly Darth Vader coin purse by Loungefly

How fabulous is this sparkly Darth Vader coin purse?! I have a ton of coin purses at home, and I actually just took all my coins to the bank to cash them, buuut… I mean… this would be a practical purchase. <— it’s DARTH VADER. Of course I’m trying to justify my want for it!

OMG SO SHINY. I don’t think I need to explain why I want this. I mean… look at it!

  • Unmasked Captain America Pop! Figure by Funko

5730_Avenger-2_Unmasked-Captain-America_hires_large

This little unmasked version of Captain America is too cute for words! It would be perfect to put alongside the Peggy Carter figure that’s coming out later this year too. Since Barnes & Noble will have a few Funko SDCC Exclusives, I’m asking my friend Jennifer to go and take a look to see if they have this little Cap figure so I won’t have to stand in that crazy long-ass line during the convention.

Doctor Who: 11th Doctor Pop! figure by Funko

The 11th Doctor is my favorite Doctor and purple is my favorite color, so that’s a completely justifiable reason to want this adorable rendition of him, right?

Direwolves plush set by Factory Entertainment

cubcollection

Last year I was on a mad hunt for a Grey Wind plushie, except the only ones that were in the exhibit hall were all prototypes. UGH. This year Factory Entertainment has an exclusive set featuring little 6 inch versions of Grey Wind, Ghost, and Nymeria. AHH!! I just might cave, you guys. I just might. O__O

pretty much EVERYTHING at the Her Universe booth

So none of these are officially exclusive, at least not that I know of, but HOLY.Ā CRAP! Her Universe just released images of a few new items making their debut at SDCC and everything looks AMAZING!!! I’m particularly stoked for the Peter Pan collar Avengers top and Agent Carter t-shirt. I saw on Instagram that there won’t be any plus size Agent Carter tees available since they didn’t have enough shirts, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to squeeze into an XL. crosses fingers –Ā

What swag are you most looking forward to getting your hands on?
