Accio Geek Apparel: A Loot Wear Review

Last month’s Loot Wear was full of magical items from franchises like Doctor Strange, Kingdom Hearts, Adventure, but most importantly (at least to me anyway) Harry Potter! If you’re unfamiliar with Loot Wear, it’s a monthly geeky mystery apparel subscription service. There are 5 different subscriptions you can get, or you can pick a bundle to get multiple items!

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Wearble ($14.99)
  • Socks ($9.99)
  • Loot for Her ($14.99)
  • Tee ($8.99)
  • Undies ($9.99)

Bundle subscriptions are available too!

  • Socks & Wearable: 2 pairs of socks and 1 wearable ($20.99)
  • Risky Business: 1 tee, 1 pair of socks, and undies ($16.99)

Every month’s theme includes items from franchises that are related, so I was pretty damn excited when I saw that Loot Wear’s November wearble and socks subscriptions would include Harry Potter items! Here’s all the stuff that came with it:

  • Wearable: Harry Potter lounge pants
  • Loot Tees: Doctor Strange
  • Loot for Her: Kingdom Hearts knitted scarf
  • Socks: Harry Potter and Doctor Strange
  • Undies: Adventure Time feat. Earl of Lemongrab

Loot Tee:

I wasn’t too excited about the Doctor Strange movie despite the fact that I’m a self-proclaimed “Cumberbitch” because of the whole Asian whitewashing thing. I do want to look into the comics eventually though. With that prejudice aside, I thought the Doctor Strange tee was cleverly designed and I love the fact that it’s like an ugly Christmas sweater! I paired the tee with my navy polka dot skirt, a gold belt, and some red ballet flats. I would’ve worn my red cardigan with this, but it was nowhere to be found. Oh well!

Loot for Her:

A pair of Kingdom Hearts socks was included in a previous subscription with the same design as this scarf. Though I don’t play the game, I’ve gotten the most use out of this particular item besides the Harry Potter lounge pants because it’s super warm and cozy! I think the symbols are inconspicuous enough for me to get away with wearing it. And as you can see from the pics, I wear the scarf two different ways 🙂

Socks, Wearble, Undies:

The Harry Potter socks are hands down the best socks Loot Wear’s come out with. EVER. They are soooooooo cute!!!!! I can’t stand it! And I’ve been wearing the lounge pants non-stop (don’t worry, they’ve been washed twice already). They’re on the lightweight side, so I have to bundle up on blankets to keep me warm at night. But I still love ’em! Make sure you watch the unpacking video to get a better look at them and the Lemongrab undies.

December’s theme is “Revolution” and tomorrow (December 19) is the last day to subscribe to get it! Make sure to do so before 9pm PST!! Any of these subs would make the perfect Christmas present for the fangirl or fanboy in your life ♥

  • Socks: Guardians of the Galaxy, Mr. Robot
  • Wearable: Rick and Morty
  • Loot For Her: Spider-Gwen
  • Loot Tee: Invader Zim
  • Undies: Rick and Morty

You’ve Got Red on You: A Loot Wear Review

Last month’s “Horror” themed Loot Wear subscriptions came with terrifyingly cool swag, and the debut of a brand new subscription geared towards men: undies! Here’s a breakdown of what each subscription came with:

  • Wearable: Alien
  • Loot Tees: Shaun of the Dead
  • Loot for Her: Edward Scissorhands Raglan
  • Socks: The Nightmare Before Christmas & The Walking Dead
  • Undies: The Walking Dead

I tossed my Alien wearable and Walking Dead socks in my laundry basket since I forgot to take pictures of each before wearing them. Whoops! However, you can get a better view of them in my unpacking video (at the very top of this post). I did style both the Loot Tee and the Loot For Her tops, so you can take a looksie at my Loot Wear ensembles and also my thoughts on them and the Nightmare Before Christmas socks and Walking Dead undies. 😀

Loot Tee:

I’m not one for scary things, but Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies! When I found out there was going to be a Shaun of the Dead t-shirt for October’s Loot Wear subscription, I totally fangirled 😀 While I was a pretty disappointed I was sent a unisex shirt instead of the women’s size like last time, I still really dig the tee. I love how it incorporates Shaun and Ed’s respective weapons for the zombie outbreak, and also the subtle vinyl record.

Loot For Her:

This raglan’s material feels so much softer and cozier than the Princess Bride or Archer ones they released previously for the wearble subscription. Unfortunately they sent me a size M when I’m a XL/XXL, but it still fit me! It definitley would’ve been a lot more comfortable had it been my proper size. Another thing I like about the raglan is the design. You can’t really tell in my outfit picture since my boobs warp the design a little (#BigBoobieProblems), but Edward’s hands are shaped like a heart. That along with the quote from the movie is cute and heartbreaking all at once!

Socks:

Like I mentioned before, I forgot to take a picture of my Walking Dead socks before wearing them, so they’re not pictured here. However, I will say that I love them! Every time there’s a Walking Dead item, I always say that I’m not into that franchise, but damn if Loot Wear doesn’t always come out with cool wearbles and accessories for them! The maroon socks feature whit silhouettes of weapons that I’m assuming the characters of the show use to fight against the walkers (is that what the zombies are called in that show?), including Lucille, Neegan’s barbed wire baseball bat. <– I only know that because everyone and their mother have posted stuff about him since the latest season premiered. Also Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the kind of fine you don’t spell correctly: fiioooone!

EDIT: OMG. I was so busy thinking about how fiooone Jeffrey Dean Morgan is, I forgot to talk about how much I loved the Oogie Boogie and Jack Skellington socks that the socks subscription came with! I love the design on the socks with Oogie Boogie hovering over and unbeknownst looking Jack. The design also has a bit of a black light poster feel to them. And how cute is Jack holding that heart?! I thought the was “Horror,” not Kawaii Macabre!

Undies:

As you can see in my unpacking video, I was pretty surprised to see Loot Wear also included these Walking Dead chonies for dudes. They’re boxer briefs and the material is really nice and soft. I tried them on over my opaque nylons and you know what? They’re actually perfect to wear underneath skirts or dresses to help keep your nylons in place! I told my friend about them and they said, “You can stick stuff in the slot too!” And I was like da fuq are you guys talking about? Then it dawned on me and I thought, 1. there isn’t a slot for that, and 2. WHY WOULD I STICK THINGS IN THERE? That’s what a bra is for!

I am extremely excited for the month of October’s Loot Wear items because the theme is “Magical” and will have items from Harry Potter, Doctor Strange, Kingdom Hearts, and Adventure Time!!! Here’s a breakdown of what franchises will be featured for each subscription:

  • Socks: Harry Potter and Doctor Strange
  • Wearable: Harry Potter
  • Loot For Her: Kingdom Hearts (it’s supposed to be a knitted item)
  • Loot Tee: Doctor Strange
  • Undies: Adventure Time

If you’re interested in subscribing you can save 10% on your subscription by using the code “LEFANCYGEEK”! Click here to level up your  geeky style. 😀

My Ultimate Loot Crate Dream Crate

The O.G. geeky subscription box service Loot Crate wants to know what kind of awesome gizmos and gadgets a-plenty their fans would put in their very own Dream Crate. When I learned about the project and was asked if  I’d be interested in putting something together, I obviously said, “YAAASSS!” This is something I’ve given a lot of thought to before I was even asked to write about it, but since they’ve already done “Fantasy” and “Magical” (my ideal themes), I had to figure out a different theme that would encompass franchises I’m a fan of that have a fairytale, fantasy, epic journey, or magical-like quality to them.

So, I came up with “Story Time” and it would include items from The Neverending Story, The Princess Bride, Once Upon a Time, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones.

loot-crate-dream-crate-le-fancy-geek-blogger

The Princess Bride: A copy of Cary Elwes’ “As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride”

With a theme like “Story Time,” it only makes sense to include an actual book! I think it’d be cool for it to include a copy of Cary Elwes’ book, and to make it extra special Loot Crate can design a different cover that’s exclusive to this particular crate. 🙂

Harry Potter: Hermione Funko Pop! figure

I love the Hermione Funko Pop! that comes in the Hogwarts Express edition because she’s holding books, but I don’t the train itself. Sooo, I think Loot Crate should team up with Funko to make one similar to it that’s exclusive, but make it so that the book is more intricate with details like a title and artwork. And it should come with a little Crookshanks because how cute would that be?!

Once Upon a Time: Belle’s Chip tea cup

I have a love/hate relationship with Once Upon a Time. There have been many times where I watch an episode and I’m like, “WHY DO I STILL WATCH THIS???” I’ve been with it from the very beginning; I’m too invested in Regina finding happines,  dammit! Anyway, I love Belle’s Chip tea cup and I associate drinking tea with “story time,” so this seemed like the perfect item to include from the franchise. Even if someone who doesn’t like Once Upon a Time got this crate, I’m sure they’d love the cup anyway and find it very useful.

Game of Thrones: Bookmarkers

Book markers will obviously be needed if there’s going to be an actual book in the crate. They don’t necessarily have to be this exact Game of Thrones book mark set, but I’d prefer something like it.

The Neverending Story: Falkor t-shirt

This movie was my jaaaam when I was a kid! And I feel like The Neverending Story doesn’t get a whole lot of love with geeky subscription boxes, and that’s why I decided to include it in my dream crate. I call Rory “Baby Falkor” since him and the luck dragon look so much alike, so of course my dream crate’s Neverending Story item would be a Falkor t-shirt! It doesn’t necessarily have to be this one that I found on Redbubble by Mandrie, but I’d like the design to have really cute artwork. Also, the Loot Pets box that coincides with this should definitely come with a matching t-shirt!

What do you think, my little ponies? Would you be stoked if you opened up a Loot Crate box and unearthed all these goodies? Tell me what your perfect Loot Crate box would include in the comments section!

cheers

Hey, Puddin’: A Loot Wear Review

Hey everyone! Bit late with this, but I received last month’s Anti-Hero themed Loot Wear subscriptions a couple weeks ago. I came up with two looks for the t-shirt and wearble items and based it around one skirt, but before we get into that, I’m gonna talk a bit about the ins and outs of Loot Wear in case you’re new to it or my blog.

Loot Wear is a monthly subscription service that offers geeky mystery apparel. Every month comes with a specific theme and they announce what franchises will be included for each subscription, so it’s not a complete shot in the dark as to what you’ll receive. Looters (as subscribers are called) can choose to get a subscription for socks, a wearable (loungewear, raglan tees, hoodies, etc), t-shirt, or something geared towards the ladies (Loot For Her which includes 1-2 items, either an accessory or wearable), or get a socks/wearable combo or t-shirt/Loot For Her combo.

Here’s what came with the August subscriptions:

  • Wearable: Archer raglan tee
  • Socks: Suicide Squad and The Punisher
  • T-shirt: World of Warcraft Sylvannas t-shirt
  • Loot for Her: Harley Quinn skirt

T-shirt:

Story time! I played World of Warcraft for a good three months about eight years ago during winter break. It was so bad. I’m talking stay-in-my-room-for-eight-hours-straight-but-go-downstairs-at-night-to-let-my-family-know-I’m-still-alive bad. And all I did was go on mini quests and collect herbs and cloth so I could make potions and new outfits for my human mage named Cydonia — after Muse’s “Knights of Cydonia.” I was also on the PVE server (player vs environment) because being the anti-social gamer noob that I am, I thought it meant less interaction with other people. Nope. I learned that people can still contact you on PVE servers. – sigh – I have an addictive personality, so even though all I did was run around Azeroth and ignored all the people who tried inviting me to go on quests with them or join their guild, I was utterly engrossed and obsessed with gaining XP points.

So, when I saw the Sylvannas Windrunner t-shirt all I thought was, “Oh, hey. It’s a night elf!” I had zero clue that she was an actual character from the game. I only found out when I looked it up. Also, sylvannas/silvanas is a tasty Filipino dessert that’s somewhat similar to macarons. Did you know that? I wonder if the creator of Sylvannas named her after that…? If you can, you should track one down and devour it, so long as you don’t have a nut allergy. Anyhow, I decided to pair the tee with my navy polka dot skirt to breakup the serious looking nature of the design and make it kind of fun. And who doesn’t love a Peter Pan collar or bowler hat?

Socks & Loot For Her:

I was really excited for the Harley Quinn Loot For Her item since I’ve been a fan of hers ever since she made her debut in Batman: The Animated Series. I thought maybe it’d be a piece of jewelry or a tote bag, but it was a skirt. Now, don’t get me wrong. I think the skirt is super cute and when I tried it on it fit fine, but the length is… uh… well… really short. And I do like a short skirt; my family knows this all too well because they seem to comment on my hemline all the damn time. But it’s too short for my own personal taste. I’m a grown woman, guys. I can’t go around wearing a skirt that leaves nothing to the imagination as far as my assets are concerned. Y’know?

As for the socks, I can never really complain about them because who doesn’t love a good geeky novelty sock? I thought both of them were pretty subtle in design and, as always, comfy. 🙂

Wearable:

I’ve been told to watch Archer by a few people, but I have yet to do so. Whoops! I love when Loot Wear comes out with raglans though, so despite the fact that my knowledge of Archer is slim, I do like this shirt a lot. I think Archer is on Netflix still, so I don’t really have an excuse to delay me watching, right? Oh, except I still need to finish the second season of Daredevil… and Strangers Things.

STOP THAT. I can feel your judgmental glares and your scoffs of disapproval  through my laptop. 😛

Next month’s theme is “Speed” and will feature Transformers for the wearable item and something Arcee related for the Loot For Her subscription, Sonic the Hedgehog and Deadpool for socks, and Mario Kart for the t-shirt. I’m pretty excited to see what the socks and t-shirt look like! I was obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog in fifth grade. I feel that that’s probably the one video game I was somewhat decent at playing. Did I mention I suck at video games? You’d definitely want to play Mario Kart against me because you’d have a guaranteed victory on your hands, plus the added bonus of listening to me swear and be super frustrated. Apparently my friends find it amusing. – rolls eyes –

All the Loot: My SDCC Haul

Look at my cute lil’ General Hux Huxband Funko Pop figure! Isn’t he the cutest?! He’s one of the many things I picked up at SDCC this year.

So, I finally made a haul video to show off all the awesome stuff I picked up at SDCC. I’ve actually made a few over the last couple years, but never ever got around to actually publishing them. And even though I’ve made a few vlogs already, it’s quite odd because it’s like I’m just talking to myself. And then editing? Uugggh… listening and watching myself talk so much is w-e-i-r-d. WEIRD.

Anywho, you can watch the video down below:

Do you vlog too? Let me know how you get through it! And if you also went to SDCC, I’d love to hear about some of the cool things you picked up too 😀

cheers

The Future is Bright: A Loot Wear Review

Hey my little ponies! I received the latest subscriptions from Loot Wear (formerly known as Level Up) a few days ago and did a little unpacking video for it. Check it out to see what’s inside along with my honest reaction of the items 🙂

Here’s a list of what came with each subscription:

Socks:
– Mega Man
– Rick & Morty

Wearable:
– Futurama hooded t-shirt

T-shirt:
– Voltron

Loot for Her:
– Bioshock tank top

I created a couple outfits from the fun threads that came with this package, including the Futurama hooded tee and the Bioshock tank top! I would’ve done a third outfit for the Voltron t-shirt, but it’s not the right size :'(

Outfit #1: “All in all, it’s a fine day for an apocalypse.”

With the current state of the US and the fact that I actually wore leggings as pants in public (LE GASP), the end of the world must be nigh! Leggings as pants has always been one of those fashion faux pas that make me cringe if it’s not done nicely. Like, if you’re gonna do it I feel like you should wear a top that covers your bum and crotch because no one wants to see the outline of your nether regions. Am I right? You know I am! The Futurama hoodie tee has a tunic-like feel to it, so my bum was nice and covered! I would’ve tucked it into a cute skater skirt, but I didn’t see one in my closet that I thought would look good with it. And I couldn’t find my black jeggings (hey, they look like denim!), so I had to resort to regular ‘ol leggings. I threw on my denim vest and sparkly bracelets so I wouldn’t be covered in all black. And you can’t really tell, but I purposely wore my dark purple flats with this outfit as a subtle nod to Leela’s hair. 🙂

Admittedly, this is one of my least polished outfits, but I threw it together when my two besties invited me out for pizza right when I changed into my pajamas and didn’t feel like going out at all. I nearly turned down free pizza, you guys. Who does that?! #EndOfTheWorldIsNigh

Outfit #2: Not Cthulhu

If you watched my unpacking video for this month’s subscriptions, you would’ve seen that I had no idea what fandom this tank’s design belonged to. The robot looked a little familiar, but I was totally lost. For a hot second I thought it looked kinda like Cthulhu. But alas, it’s from Bioshock Infinite! The only things I know about Bioshock Infinite is that it’s a video game that has a steampunk feel, a pretty lady character that tons of women cosplay at cons, a birdcage, and robots. I’ve seen pictures from the game and I think it looks really cool, but I am too uncoordinated and anxious to play first shooter games. I’ll just stick with Duck Hunt, thank you very much.

I really like the tank top though —  it has nice a graphic on it! I paired it with a brass feather necklace to make a reference to the birdcage. I used to frown upon wearing things from fandoms I’m not into, but Loot Wear makes it hard to stick to my guns when they come out with cute stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with my geek interests. 😛

Overall thoughts on July’s subscription items? Pretty good despite the fact that Futurama is the only thing that I’m actually a fan of, and the Voltron shirt not being the right size. 🙁

Next month’s theme is “Anti-Heroes” and I’m pretty excited for it because the Loot for Her subscription is going to have something Harley Quinn related! I’m hoping for some sort of tote bag or jewelry piece. The sock subscription will have the Punisher and Suicide Squad, the t-shirt will be World of Warcraft (I played WoW for three months and all I did was pick herbs and make outfits), and the wearable item will be from Archer… another show I keep putting on hold!

By the Floral of Greyskull: A Level Up Review

Hey my little ponies! Level Up’s been churning out some pretty sweet loot within the past few months! In the video above I go over the items from April (“Quest”), May (“Power”), and June’s (“Dystopia”) subscriptions. Make sure to check it out to see the fun stuff they’ve sent out. 🙂

Of the three, May’s subscription items were my favorite! Down below you can see how I styled the Super Mario infinity scarf and Masters of the Universe t-shirt! And for June’s you can see how I styled the Ghostbusters wearable item.

For April’s subscription, I remember being super stoked about it because I had been hoping for something along the lines of their “Fantasy” themed Loot Crate box from last year. The “Fantasy” box came with items from Game of Thrones, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter, and Dungeons & Dragons, so I had visions of some sort of Harry Potter or Game of Thrones accessory/wearable stuck in my head. And in a promo email I got, it said stuff from Harry Potter and the Labyrinth would be included, but then I learned that that was for the Loot Crate box, not the Level Up subscription. – le sigh – But most of the fandoms included in the Level Up subscription were things I was a fan of like The Legend of Zelda, Goonies, and The Princess Bride. I was little thrown off that Star Trek was included as the lady loot item since January’s “Invasion” already had a Star Trek BFF necklace. I’m not completely immersed in the Trekkie ‘verse — I’ve only seen the newer movies with John Cho and Simon Pegg, and thoroughly enjoyed them. The Star Trek items they’ve come out with have been really cool, like the galaxy print leggings from “Quest,” but I’m hoping to see a bit more diversity within the next few subscriptions as far as fandoms go. It seems like Super Mario and Marvel  has made an appearance a few times too. Of course I don’t mind that since Mario was practically part of my childhood, and I’m a big fan of Marvel. Bleh. I’m just being biased. 😛

Other than the Star Trek overload, I really dig the stuff Level Up comes out with and I’m not just saying that ’cause they send it to me (see FTC disclosure below). Everything I’ve ever received has always been top quality. But I digress.

So, without further ado, here are some of the ways I styled items from the past few subscriptions:

Look #1: By the Floral of Greyskull

May’s “Power” t-shirt subscription came with a pretty rad He-Man t-shirt featuring his loyal pal Cringer (aka Battle Cat when He-Man zaps him with the Power of Greyskull) lookin’ fierce AF. He-Man’s silhouette is actually in the middle of Cringer, but you can’t see him in my outfit since I tucked the tee into my skirt. I really dig the design on this tee; the greens are so vibrant! I felt slightly weird about wearing it since I was more into She-Ra than He-Man as a kid, but when worn like this it seems inconspicuous enough. Green and pink is one of my favorite color combos, so I paired the tee with this cute floral skirt and pink statement necklace.

Look #2: Ghostbuster Chic

In my unpacking video review, I initially said that the wearable item from June’s “Dystopia” subscription looked a little too big since it’s a unisex XL. It fit me alright, but I looked a little boxy when I tried it on the way it’s supposed to be worn. In order to make it more feminine, I rolled the sleeves up a little and tied a knot in middle like I usually do with some of my cardigans. If I watch the new Ghostbusters movie, I know what I’m wearing to the theater!

Look #3: C’est Un Dress

Okay, so I’m pretty damn proud of myself about this outfit because I turned the Super Mario infinity scarf (that I totally forgot to show in the video. D’oh!) that was part May’s Lady Loot subscription into a mo’fookin’ dress! Er… well kind of, anyway. I was super excited about Yogurtland’s Nintendo campaign, and really wanted to wear the scarf when I went a few days ago. But it’s summer and I live in the Central Valley of California and it’s stupid hot over here. BUT I WANTED TO WEAR THE SCARF. I wore a black dress as a base and attempted what felt like a bajillion different styles (probably only four though) until I came up with what you see in the picture above.

If you’re into geek fashion, I definitely think Level Up is worth checking out. Plus you can save 10% off your subscription by using the code LEFANCYGEEK during checkout. Wee! 🙂
