Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey

outfit details – blazer: Living Doll Β // dress: ModCloth (buy here) // belt: Xhileration // shoes: BOBS (buy here) Β // ring: Francesca // bag: Coach // Adipose keychain: Underground Toys (buy here) // necklace: made by me

When Tim and I made plans on what to do during our short time in San Diego we decided to hit one museum amongst all the restaurants we talked about eating at (yes, I plan trips based on food). I suggested going to the Natural History MuseumΒ (the Nat) because they have dinosaurs! And as everyone knows, dinosaurs are AWESOME. Isn’t it amazing that these ginormous creatures roamed the earth long before mankind even existed? The fossils and dinosaur models were hands down my favorite part of the Nat. I’ll share more pictures of my adventure there with all the other neat things I saw in the next post. πŸ™‚

Whenever I go somewhere special, I like to dress in theme. My galaxy dress from ModCloth seemed like an appropriate thing to wear despite the fact that there wasn’t a planetarium or anything. Like, what does the galaxy have to do with what’s at the Nat? Oh, I don’t know. But one time when I wore this dress to work, a customer said she really liked it and that it was very “timey wimey” — a Whovian reference! And there was an episode of Doctor Who called “Dinosaurs On a Spaceship” last season, so BAM! There’s the connection. I also paired it with my 11th Doctor necklace and TARDIS blue ballet flats. Tim was also quite Who-y that day as he wore his Silence vs. Weeping Angels shirt too (pictured below).

This is probably the most epic dress that I own! On our way to brunch before going to the Nat, a guy walked out of another restaurant just to tell me how awesome my dress was πŸ˜€

You might remember my dress from this outfit post I did back in August too.

Do you like to dress in theme whenever you go out to fun places too?

Cheers,
Nina

Dark Side of the Garden

outfit details – dress: H&M // belt + cardigan: Merona // boots: Dirty Laundry // purse: Coach // r2-d2 pouch: Target // Stormtrooper ring: from a cupcake! // Darth Vader necklace: Once Upon a Smorgasbord (buy here)

OMG, an outfit post! I haven’t done one of these in awhile, so I suppose it’s time to fix that, right?

This is what I wore on Tuesday, so it’s not exactly an OOTD, but it’s coo, baby. It’s coo. I tend to wear dresses, cardigans, and boots A LOT because it’s pretty much my fail safe. I don’t know what I’m going to do when the weather gets warmer though. Ugh! I don’t even want to think about spring!

With this particular outfit, I was feeling very Lisa Loeb-y circa 1994… despite the fact that I’m not wearing my glasses. I misplaced them on Tuesday morning, buuut fun fact time!: they’re reading glasses, so I don’t particularly need to wear them all the time. I just like wearing them a lot because I love glasses and things look a lot nicer when I wear them. And of course, I had to add some geeky elements, so I threw in my Stormtrooper ring that I got on a cupcake, and I found this super rad R2-D2 pouch at Target last month! It came with a bunch of Lemon Head candies, but I just gave those suckers away. It has a little clip on it, so I attached it to my purse and stuck my chapstick, lipstick, and a compact mirror in it for easy access. I don’t know what else it could possibly be used for besides that. o__0

Also, I just added the Darth Vader necklace I’m wearing with this outfit to my Etsy store, Once Upon a Smorgasbord! I thought it might be a good idea to incorporate some of my pieces into my outfits just to show y’all how they can be worn and whatnot πŸ™‚ Darth Vader looks quite lovely amongst the floral print of my dress, does he not?! For a better view of it, you can check it out here.

Star WarsΒ + Floral prints = EPICAL GEEKY GIRLYNESS!!!

Cheers,
Nina

PS: Shout out to my Dark Side Sister, Nami who loves and finds the Sith Lord to be a fashionable entity just as much as I do!

Barks & Rec.

My fluffy baby Rory is going to be graduating from his beginners class at Petsmart next week! But he has to pass the evaluation test first — meaning he needs to perform all the commands we’ve been teaching him for the past 5 weeks perfectly. No pressure whatsoever. For the most part, Rory’s a good dog, but sometimes he doesn’t like to listen and gets overly excited around other pups. In class he’s known as “the mean one” or “fiesty one” which makes me really sad because he’s so fuggin’ sweet… just not around other dogs. Rory’s also the only boy in the class and the eldest at 15 months (I think the youngest pup in the class is 5 months old). I really should’ve enrolled him early on, but TARDISes (what is the plural for TARDIS?) and time turners don’t exist, so oh well.

Before his class last Thursday, my friends and I took him out to the park for a walk. Or rather, he took Jen for a walk (he doesn’t have that loose-leash walking down quite yet). Fresh air seemed to be all he needed since he did super awesome in class that night!

And since I wore a cute outfit to work that day, we did some OOTD (outfit of the day) shots around the park. But it was soooo windy and the lighting was off pretty much everywhere, I ended doing a few shots at home (full outfit shot is down below).

While trying to get rid of clothes I don’t wear often, I came across this hot air balloon dress by American Rag in my closet that I haven’t worn since my trip to Disneyland in May. I forced myself to make an outfit around it because I didn’t like the thought of not having it in my closet. :/ Both my earrings and necklace are second-hand purchases. I got my teal crystal earrings at the Lodi Street Faire just in time for prom! I was into teal a lot back then. And when I say “back then” I mean 8 years ago. Yikes! I found my necklace at the local flea market last year. It’s a fragrance locket, or perfume necklace. I’m not sure what to call it, but the inside of it contains some nasty scented wax. The gold cigar band ring was given to me by my super stylish grandma (super stylish grandma can be seenΒ here). And my navy and purple cuff is from the Coach outlet store. Yay outlets!

outfit details:

  • dress: American Rag
  • cardigan: Old Navy
  • necklace: flea market find
  • earrings: street market find
  • ring: my grandma gave it to me!
  • bracelet: Coach
  • boots: Madden Girl
  • tights: Hue

I’m assuming there will be Halloween parties this weekend, so I hope you all have fun and be safe (of course)! I dressed up as Minnie Mouse for my co-worker’s costume/going-away party last night, so I shall post pictures of my costume in the upcoming days. And if you’re not doing anything festive this weekend, I hope you have fun as well!

Cheers,
Nina <3

Something New (and Blue)!

Hello all! I see that my blog has been collecting digital dust as I haven’t blogged in over 11 days. YIKES!

Since my last post I went back to my old junior college to try to get into a Children’s Literature class (outlook of me getting in looks positive *fingers crossed*). I already finished the first book that was assigned, Skellig by David Almond. I also applied for a retail gig. Searching for a job has been a pain in the arse, but I need something. Anything. I don’t want to say where I applied to as I don’t want to jinx it. And over the weekend my cousin and his wife had a grand wedding ceremony in San Diego (they had a civil service last year).

And you know weddings mean buying new dresses and shoes!

I don’t really wear royal TARDIS blue, I almost got a black and purple dress with a patent grey belt instead, but I REALLY loved the details on this dress. πŸ˜€

Anyway, the wedding was awesome (minus the part during the ceremony where the clouds parted and the sun scorched all of us). At the reception all my cousins (that are around my age) were seated at the same table, I got to nerd out about Disneyland (we’re all Disney babies), showed them all pictures of Rory (my puppy has a name now!), drank beer, etc. That night we also went to the after party at some club in the GasLamp. I felt soooooo out of place. All the girls had tight dresses and heels — I wore this dress and a maroon cardigan with pink ballet flats. But my sister, her boyfriend, and I went to a pub called the Hopping Pig afterwards and I had pulled pork sliders, so yay!

Alright, folks. I gotta do some homework. Wow… that just sounds weird. o___O

PS: Check out my “A Guide to the Whoniverse” post on Imaginary Battles!

outfit details:

  • dress: Bebop
  • shoes: Target
  • earrings: Lucky Brand
  • ring: gift from my cousin
  • clutch: Coach

Green, Hamm & Eggs

Yesterday I went back to SPD for the first time in a month! Something always came up, so Jen and I would have to cancel our shifts — sickness, vacation, major holidays, etc. Who knew so many holidays fell on Mondays too? We ended up working on the “Lost Books” project; it’s where we’re given a list of books in each section and we take out the ones that aren’t supposed to be there. It’s rare that you actually find any misplaced books, but I ended up spending 4 hours reorganizing tons of shelves!

Afterwards, Jen wanted to take some pictures on her fancy Pentax camera with the new filter she bought, so I took my little Rex out for a shoot. And yes, sometimes I do carry a toy in my purse. I used to do it more frequently as I liked using toys to document the places I go. I’m trying to get back into the habit, no matter how odd it may be.

I got these really cute vinyl Disney toys by Funko over the weekend when I went to Sacramento, and I told Jen about it — so she asked if we could go to Sac so she could buy Buzz Lightyear. Despite the fact that there was a Disney Store across the bridge in San Francisco, she said she didn’t want to go there (SF rush hour… eww). So off to Sac we went!

This Hamm piggy bank matched my outfit. πŸ˜€

I didn’t think I’d be indulging in my inner child sooooo much yesterday. When I got dressed in the morning, IΒ  knew I wanted to wear jeans and a tee, but somehow ended up looking like a put together 8-year-old. I bought my shirt at the gift store outside of the Toy Story ride when I went to the Disney’s California Adventure. When Toy Story 3 came out last year, I was soooo excited that there was going to be aΒ  little unicorn! When I saw the shirt with Buttercup on it, I knew I had to have it.

Jen and I now have BFF toys! She said, “It’s perfect how my favorite is Buzz and yours is Woody: you complain a lot and I’m annoying!” It’s kind of true too. x__X

outfit details:

  • cardigan: Old Navy
  • shirt: Disneyland Resort
  • camisole: Kirkland
  • pants: ???
  • necklace: Swarovski
  • bracelet: Coach
  • shoes: Avenue

Yee-Haw!

My Friday was a lot more productive than usual — I had a driving lesson with my mom’s friend, Sarem (I don’t like driving, it freaks me out, but I’m trying to get used to it as a means of necessity), then I went shopping with Shanice for a bit before she had to go to work, and then I went thrifting with my mom and her homies. She sent me a text saying to call her when I was done shopping with Shanice and then she’d take me “thrusting.” Oh, the joy that is auto correct. I will now refer to thrifting as thrusting. o___0

I managed to find a nice pair of brand new cowboy boots for $29 at Superior Thrift (the bestest thrift store in the Central Valley). And they conveniently went with my outfit! After I bought them, I immediately changed into them since the ones I was originally wearing were starting to hurt my feet. It’s really hard to find boots that fit over my calves, let alone fancy cowboy boots, so when I do find a pair that fit, I take it as a sign from the fashion gods that I must purchase them. That sounds logical, doesn’t it? I also found a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt for 99 cents. Whoop!

outfit details:

  • dress/deer ring: H&M
  • earrings/belt: Target
  • sunglasses: Coach
  • boots: thrifted
  • bracelet: from my mom

My Cupcake Adventure

While I was on vacation, my friend Jen sent me a link to a shop called Cupcake Craving in Davis, CA, a town about 45 minutes away from where I live. She called me a few times when I got back to see if I wanted to go check it out, but I was swamped with family stuff. But earlier today when I was about to go for a swim in my backyard, she called to see if I was up for a cupcake adventure. I didn’t really have any plans besides cleaning and posting things on eBay, so I said I’d go. Plus I would’ve felt bad if I said “no” again!

So, why would we travel so far away for cupcakes, you may be wondering? Well, they’re gourmet cupcakes, so why not? Jen seemed really keen on checking this place out, and I am not one to refuse a cupcake quest invitation (I only delay them by being busy with other things).

I was pretty overwhelmed with the selection they had. And they also had ice cream and milkshakes! But I stuck with my original plan: buy 2 cupcakes — a fruity one and a chocolatey one. I settled on the Strawberry Dream and Monkey Mania (pictured in the back row in the photo below), and I bought my mom Red Velvet and Dulce Deleche because I’m awesome like that. πŸ™‚

Monkey Mania was pretty effing tasty — it’s banana cake with caramel filling and cream cheese frosting, topped with a chocolate monkey.

The Strawberry dream was ridiculously pink. Like, 80s Barbie neon pink. It was quite yummy though. πŸ˜€

There are some other flavors that I’d like to try, but Tim told me I need to check out another cupcake place in Davis called Let Them Eat Cake. AH! Too many places to go. I told Jen we should also go to Teacake Bake Shop in Emeryville after our shift at SPD next week. Not only do they have delicious cupcakes, but cookies as well. I suggest the Chocolate Chunk Hazelnut cookie. SO GOOD.

I really need to watch it though. I’ve lost a lot of weight this year, and at the rate I’ve been going at with Disneyland and my grandpa’s party, I’ve been eating sweets nonstop. My body is in a bit of shock — it’s like, “WTF are you doing to me?! What is this crap?”

Sorry, body! Perhaps I should get some fruit tomorrow… or just eat more chocolate covered raisins.
