The Best Freaking Pilot in the Galaxy

Oh my goodness, how the hell is it November already?! It still feels like SDCC just happened last month, but alas. That was four months ago! The way the end of the year quickly creeps upon¬†us never ceases to amaze and terrify me. Why terrify? Well… because it makes me think about what I have and [mostly] haven’t done all year, and makes me cringe because despite the things I did accomplish, I can’t help but focus on the negative. Y’know how that goes. ūüėõ

I’ve been pretty quiet on here lately, and that’s because I’ve been crazy busy with an internship I just started a month ago in San Francisco! I’ll talk more about it at some other point because I just wanted to quickly share mine and Rory’s Halloween costumes. Him and I dressed up as BB-8 and Poe DAME-eron from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. HA! See what I did there? Poe Dameron. DAME-eron? No? Okay fine, whatever. I thought it was clever.

We were originally going to be Babe and Farmer Hoggett from Babe,¬†but then I saw this BB-8 costume at Petsmart back in August¬†and immediately decided we’d be BB-8 and Poe instead. ¬†I already had the Poe/Finn jacket by Her Universe from Hot Topic so that just saved me a trip from having to find a tweed jacket and whatever else I’d need to dress up as Farmer Hoggett. Plus dressing up like an old farmer versus dressing up like the best freaking pilot in the galaxy — pilot wins hands down! I thought about wearing pants (or trousers incase anyone from Europe is reading this) to be more Poe-like, but I went with a skirt because I’m all about that no-pants life. Except pants would’ve been nice to have on the hayride we went on at Dell’osso Farms. :: cringe ::

Rory and I are definitely going to be rocking these outfits again for our holiday greeting cards this year! Did you dress your pet or yourself up¬†for Halloween? Tell me all about your costumes in the comments section. ūüôā

Roll Out: A Loot Wear Review

I’m back with another review of Loot Crate’s monthly mystery apparel subscription service Loot Wear! The month of September came with some pretty great stuff, and I was so excited to style both the wearable item and the t-shirt. The theme was “Speed” and it came with the following:

  • Wearable:¬†Transformers jersey
  • Socks:¬†Deadpool and Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Loot Tees:¬†Mario Kart
  • Loot for Her:¬†Transformers Arcee shorts

Wearable:

My only exposure to Transformers as a kid was a VHS tape my sister and I would watch every now and then that involved¬†Dinobots. I think I was way more into the fact that there were dinosaurs since I was obsessed with The Land Before Time and Dino Riders. Sorry, Transformers! However, in college a friend of mine started calling me Ninamus Prime… I’m not really sure how that started though. – shoulder shrug – The jersey isn’t something I’d normally wear, but it’s quite awesome. When styling it, I just went with my tried and true tuck-it-into-a-flowy-skirt-with-a-chunky-belt. ūüôā

Socks & Loot For Her:

By far, this has got to be my favorite sock duo to come in a subscription because both pertain to my geeky interests. Sonic the Hedgehog is the one video game I feel I didn’t completely suck at, and always entered the boss stages with determination and moxy rather than anxiety and fear because boss levels freak me out, okay? I love the “oh-no!” expression on Sonic’s face too with all the coins scattering about. It totally brings back memories of the times I accidentally messed up and grew increasingly frustrated with the game. Oh, nostalgia. But seriously, don’t let me play video games. I’m competitive and terrible, and get really angry when I don’t win. ūüėõ

As for Deadpool… well, speed isn’t what comes to mind when I first think about him, but who cares? These Deadpool socks are f*cking sweet.

Once again, the Lady Loot subscription came with a piece of apparel. This time around it’s a pair of shorts featuring Arcee from Transformers. While they’re nice to wear around the house (I’ve worn them to bed numerous times already), I can’t help but be slightly bummed because I really miss when the Lady Loot subs came with one or two accessories. Please bring back jewelry and tote bags! And scarves. It’s getting colder (everywhere else at least), so us ladies could totally go for scarves again.

Loot Tees:

Despite the fact that I’ll never know what victory feels like when it comes to¬†Mario Kart, this has got to be my favorite tee that Loot Wear has put out so far! It’s super comfy, and I love the design with the spiked koopa shell. I opted to go the girly route — because really, I know no other — and paired the tee with a navy floral skirt with bits of pink and baby blue. The Central Valley hasn’t quite gotten the Fall memo, hence my summery appearance. Hopefully I can throw on some black tights, boots, and a cozy cardigan into the mix to make this more appropriate for Fall soon ūüôā

This month’s theme is appropriately “Horror” since it’s Halloween and all, and I’m SO EFFING EXCITED for the Loot Tee because it’s going to be Shaun of the Dead, which is probably the only zombie movie I will ever love or care about. The Lady Loot subscription will have something from Edward Scissorhands, the wearable will be from Alien, and the socks will feature designs from The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Walking Dead. There’s also a brand new Loot Wear subscription that launched not too long ago aimed specifically for the guys: Loot Undies. I’m actually kinda jealous of this because who doesn’t love a good pair¬†of chonies? This sub comes with one pair of geek themed boxer briefs, and this month’s will be from The Walking Dead.

Send Me an Angel

When my very good friend Megan, who happens to be a ridiculously talented self-taught metalsmith and jewelry maker, told me that she was planning on moving to Texas soon, my first thought was “WHAT THE HELL?! WHY ARE YOU LEAVING ME?!” But when she asked if I could help spread the word of these special pendants she made to help her with¬†moving expenses, I said, “Duh. Of course!”

I have had the honor of receiving some of Megan’s beautiful creations as presents, some of which you may have seen on my Instagram, and she puts so much love and care into everything she makes. These pendants, entitled “No Direct Flight,” are no different. In fact, this design is one that she gifts to those who are most special to her. It¬†features a set of angel wings placed on a copper sheet that Megan hand cut herself, and used¬†vitreous enamels for the image. The jumpring is sterling, you can easily slip the pendant onto your favorite chain. As you can see in the pictures, not one pendant is the same due the nature of manufacturing things completely by hand.

This is perfect to give¬†to the guardian angel you have in your life — whether they be human or¬†four-legged and furry like Megan’s cat Dave (pictured below). And at just $20, it’s a steal!

This pendant can easily be slipped into geek inspired ensembles too!¬†There’s the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, Castiel¬†from Supernatural, Kid Icarus (or Icarus from actually mythology), Archangel from X-Men, etc, etc.

To purchase the “No Direct Flight” pendant, go here.¬†Also be sure to follow Megan on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date with all her wonderful creations.

Hey, Puddin’: A Loot Wear Review

Hey everyone! Bit late with this, but I received last month’s Anti-Hero themed¬†Loot Wear¬†subscriptions a couple weeks ago.¬†I came up with two looks for the t-shirt and wearble items and based it around one skirt, but before we get into that, I’m gonna talk a bit about the ins and outs of Loot Wear in case you’re new to it or¬†my blog.

Loot Wear is a monthly subscription service that offers geeky mystery apparel. Every month comes with a specific theme and they announce what franchises will be included for each subscription, so it’s not a complete shot in the dark as to what you’ll receive. Looters (as subscribers are called)¬†can choose to get a subscription for socks, a wearable (loungewear, raglan tees, hoodies, etc), t-shirt, or something geared towards the ladies (Loot For Her which includes 1-2 items, either an accessory or wearable), or get a socks/wearable combo or t-shirt/Loot For Her combo.

Here’s what came with the August subscriptions:

  • Wearable: Archer raglan tee
  • Socks: Suicide Squad and The Punisher
  • T-shirt: World of Warcraft Sylvannas t-shirt
  • Loot for Her: Harley Quinn skirt

T-shirt:

Story time! I played World of Warcraft for a good three months about eight years ago during winter break. It was so bad. I’m talking stay-in-my-room-for-eight-hours-straight-but-go-downstairs-at-night-to-let-my-family-know-I’m-still-alive bad. And all I did was go on mini quests and collect herbs and cloth so I could make potions and new outfits for my human mage named Cydonia — after Muse’s “Knights of Cydonia.” I was also on the PVE server (player vs environment) because being the anti-social gamer noob¬†that I am, I thought it meant less interaction with other people. Nope. I learned that people can still contact you on PVE servers. – sigh – I have an addictive personality, so even though all I did was run around Azeroth and ignored¬†all the people who tried inviting me to go on quests with them or join their guild, I was utterly engrossed and obsessed with gaining XP points.

So, when I saw the Sylvannas Windrunner t-shirt all I thought was, “Oh, hey. It’s a night elf!” I had zero clue that she was an actual character from the game. I only found out when I looked it up. Also, sylvannas/silvanas is a tasty Filipino dessert that’s somewhat similar to macarons. Did you know that? I wonder if the creator of Sylvannas named her after that…? If you can, you¬†should track one down and devour it, so long as you don’t have a nut allergy. Anyhow, I decided to pair the tee¬†with my navy polka dot skirt to breakup the serious looking nature of the design and make it kind of fun. And who doesn’t love a Peter Pan collar or bowler hat?

Socks & Loot For Her:

I was really excited for the Harley Quinn Loot For Her item since I’ve been a fan of hers ever since she made her debut in¬†Batman: The Animated¬†Series. I thought maybe it’d be¬†a piece of jewelry or a tote bag, but it was a skirt. Now, don’t get me wrong. I think the skirt is super cute and¬†when I tried it on it fit fine, but the length is… uh… well… really short. And I do like a short skirt; my family knows this all too well because they seem to comment on my hemline all the damn time. But it’s too short for my own personal taste. I’m a grown woman, guys. I can’t go around wearing a skirt that leaves nothing to the imagination as far as my assets¬†are concerned. Y’know?

As for the socks, I can never really complain about them because who doesn’t love a good geeky novelty sock? I thought both of them were pretty subtle in design and, as always, comfy. ūüôā

Wearable:

I’ve been told to watch Archer by a few people, but I have yet to do so. Whoops! I love when Loot Wear comes out with raglans though, so despite the fact that my knowledge of Archer is slim, I do like this shirt a lot.¬†I think Archer is on Netflix still, so I don’t really have an excuse to delay me watching, right? Oh, except I still need to finish the second season of Daredevil… and Strangers Things.

STOP THAT. I can feel your judgmental glares and your scoffs of disapproval ¬†through my laptop. ūüėõ

Next month’s theme is “Speed” and will feature Transformers¬†for the wearable item and something Arcee related for the Loot For Her subscription, Sonic the Hedgehog and Deadpool for socks, and Mario Kart for the t-shirt. I’m pretty excited to see what the socks and t-shirt look like! I was obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog in fifth grade. I feel that that’s probably the one video game I was somewhat decent at playing. Did I mention I suck at video games? You’d definitely want to play Mario Kart against me because you’d have a¬†guaranteed victory on your hands, plus the added bonus of listening to me swear and be super frustrated. Apparently my friends find it amusing. – rolls eyes –

Espionage Cosmetics: Nexus Literary Wrap Battle

I’m excited to officially announce that I am now a Nerd Makeup Ambassador for Espionage Cosmetics!

EC offers a couple of neat subscriptions called¬†Boom!Box and Nexus. With Boom!Box, subscribers get a new makeup item, a set of nail wraps, and other fun goodies. Nexus subscribers get advanced access to two¬†different nail wraps based on a theme, and they get to vote for which one they like best. Whichever design wins will be made available for everyone on their website, while the other nail wrap becomes an exclusive just for the subscriber. And for just $15 a month, that’s a steal considering that one nail wrap set retails between $10-$12!

I received August’s Nexus subscription which was literary themed and involved two of my favorite stories: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. Okay, I have to be honest… I’ve never actually read the Alice in Wonderland books. – hides face in shame – I KNOW! I know! Buuuut, I just downloaded an audiobook with Christopher Plummer narrating both stories, so I’m looking forward to reading along with Captain Von Hot Damn Captain Von Trapp. If it’s any consolation, I know most of “The Jabberwocky” by heart. ūüėõ

Both designs were really cute, but at the end of the day I gravitated a bit more to “Paint the Roses Red,” which pays¬†homage to the cards painting the white roses in the Queen of Hearts’ garden. That one was actually the winner, so you can pick up a set for yourself on EC’s website now! I haven’t used either set yet because I’m waiting for the perfect occasion, especially with the “Emerald City Attire” since I’ll never be able to buy another set again. O__O

If you’d like to get¬†Nexus or Boom!Box, click here to subscribe. And don’t forget to watch my¬†unpacking video to get a peek of the Boom!Box exclusive item that EC was kind enough to send to me too! ūüôā

cheers le fancy geek fashion blogger

PS: You’ll most likely have leftovers or scraps after you use your nail wraps, but you don’t have to let them¬†go to waste! I upcycled¬†some extras from the “Computing” wraps I got at SDCC by cutting out hearts and sticking them on top of my painted nails. There was also enough left from the pinky wraps to place over my whole pinky nail again; all I had to do was trim it so it would fit the lining of my cuticle. Waste not, want not!

Person of [P]interest

I’ve been to San Francisco/Berkeley A LOT this month; I¬†think I’ve gone a total of five times at least. In fact, I was just there last Sunday for the SF Etsy indie emporium! I would’ve been there again this Sunday, but Shanice and I decided to skip San Francisco Comic-Con since Jason Momoa cancelled his appearance. ūüôĀ

On one of my many trips this month (the 20th to be exact), Jen and I headed to Mission: Comics and Arts‘ patch and pin pop-up because we needed¬†wanted more enamel pins in our lives. Unless you’ve been living under a metaphorical rock, you may have noticed enamel pins are all the rage with the kids these days. I’ve been collecting pins on and off since high school ¬†to wear on the lapel of my blazer or cardigan. Part of me is excited that indie artists and companies like TeeFury¬†are coming out with quirky pins in full force, but then there’s the other part that absolutely hates it because how the hell am I supposed to save my money when I want to buy them all? <– First world problems at its finest.

Please make sure you don’t buy enamel pins¬†at places like Zara or Francesca’s though, because they’ve blatantly ripped off so many independent¬†artists. Support small businesses, people!

Anyhow, I had a particularly rough morning before we left for SF that day because – TMI ALERT – Rory got shit on me. Yep. You read that correctly, I shit you not. While we were on our usual morning walk, a couple across the way were riding their bikes with their dog that was off leash, and he wandered over our way. Rory got startled and started flipping out, and when I pulled him back I noticed he had wet poop around his butt, some on his tail, and there was a little droplet on the sidewalk. The dog eventually went away, and I kept on walking, but then I thought, “That can’t be all of it, can it…?” And low and behold, there was a nice splash of Rory’s canine fecal matter¬†on my left shoe, sock, and both sides of my leggings. – insert angry emoji face here – I was NOT having it that morning. When I took a shower I nearly slipped in the tub, and found myself yelling, “NOT TODAY, SATAN” out loud. So you can imagine how amused¬†I was to see¬†Sabretooth Dreams’ “Not Today, Satan”¬†pin at the pop-up. It was an obvious instant purchase.

I also picked up a couple Star Wars pins by Yesterdays (Boba Fett shaped like a boba drink, ha!), Ilana and Abbi from Broad City donned in Dumb & Dumber attire, a mint It’s-It pin (It’s-It is the real San Francisco treat, don’t let Rice-O-Roni fool you), and an actual It’s-It green tea ice cream sandwich that’s not pictured since I devoured it upon purchase. Oh, and I also got to see Gladys from Usagi in Wonderland!¬†Her pin game is so strong.¬†ūüėÄ

Geek Girl Gang

If you want to officially show that you’re part of the coolest gang in the ‘verse, Geek Girl Gang¬†has got you covered!

Geek Girl Gang was founded by fellow geeky blogger/fashionista¬†Meli¬†earlier this year, first starting off with a set of limited edition buttons, and more¬†recently just launched¬†a line of t-shirts! When I first saw the announcement on Instagram, my initial reaction was “MY BODY IS READY.” So when Meli messaged me and asked if I’d like to style one of the tees for my blog, I was beyond thrilled and more than willing ūüėÄ

There are currently three different designs to choose from that are simplistic and hella cute to boot! I love that you can pair them with virtually anything and make it chic, casual, or somewhere in between.¬†The designs¬†are all printed on cozy American Apparel unisex tees, so it’s best to go a size down from what you’d normally wear (Meli told me that’s what her and the models did).¬†I wasn’t too sure at first since I wear a women’s XL or XXL depending on the brand, and usually wear a men’s M or L. I just compared the sizing chart on Geek Girl Gang’s webstore to the measurements of¬†a women’s XXL tee and picked L since it was the closest.¬†When you go on Geek Girl Gang’s¬†webstore, you’ll see the pics of the models say what size they’re wearing and what their bust and waist size is, which you will most likely find very helpful if you don’t make things more complicated than they need to be like myself. Ha! And BTW, the L fits just the way I like it!

The black and gold Geek Girl Gang tee is my favorite of the three — it’s so O.G. Or O.G.G.¬†(Original Geek Girl… ha! Get it? OMG. Okay, I’ll stop). The R in “girl” also has a little heart in it which is such a darling touch! Please excuse the fact that my hair is covering said detail in all my pics.

My standard uniform is always a dress/belt combo or¬†a tee/skirt/belt combo (often with a cardigan or some form of outerwear), so I paired my Geek Girl Gang tee¬†with my Her Universe Star Wars skirt from Disneyland that features a bunch of baddies from the Dark Side, and my Admiral Ackbar locket by Rockets and Rainbows (Jennifer Landa‘s Etsy store) to dress it up a little and play off the gold lettering. Plus it’s Admiral Ackbar! My love for him is indescribable and knows no bounds. And of course, I threw in my¬†beloved bowler hat because I’m obsessed with it.

I think that the simplicity in the design of the tee makes it so easy to incorporate accessories from your¬†favorite fandoms to¬†further show off your Geek Girl Gang cred. I’m excited to come up with¬†different ways to style it and think of other fandom based outfits!

skirt: Her Universe (Disney Parks exclusive)

hat: H&M | belt: Xhileration
necklace: Rockets & Rainbows

If you’re reading this, you’re obviously part of the gang. So make it super official by picking up a tee!¬†The “Full of Feels” tee is currently on sale for $15 and the black and gold Geek Girl Gang tee¬†is starting to run low in stock, so get on it¬†if ya want it!
